Thanks for the video. The two side pieces don’t need to be cut at a 45 and can extend to the top edge. The top piece would be cut at 45 to allow a nice finish look.

I have been building and remodeling for 25+ years now. I do just about everything, some things more than others. But, in the remodeling business, ya just never know what the heck you're going to come across. I'm not to proud to say that I know everything there is to know. Nor am I to proud to take the time to learn something new. Sometimes when we do this type of work, we have a tendency to get wrapped up in that "tunnel vision" approach. That's why I like to watch your videos and others out there. It lets me see how other people are going about doing things, and sometimes I learn new things. I definitely like your style and approach. Keep up the good work.

Another thing that you can do is make like an 1 1/2” bend on to the wall so you don’t have to nail into the side of the door frame Also for the side pieces instead of 45ing them just cut them straight so Incase you cut to much off the top piece will cover when you 45 it
@nicks6913

I was just getting ready to ask this question. Seems to me if you can add that additional bend to the wall, it would be even more beneficial for the water management as well.

Don't cut your side trim on a 45. Leave them square cut to the top or the header. The side faces of the trim leave a 1 1/4 flange under header, and on the top. Cut the header trim full length of the header ,make your 45 on each end. Use white silicone to glue on side jams on. Glue on the header put calk on each end of the header on the top to seal ends. Also calk under the 45 miter cuts a small bead abit back to keep it from coming out the ends. I run my j-channel first add trim then calk. Also ends of side jams need capping.

@stevewagner998

Hey just curious was there a reason you didn't use the same method of trim as the windows in previous videos? Where you had the composite attached to the pvc in an L shape to bump out over the foam.

Shannon , my door on the back of the house will have one row of vinyl siding under the door. The threshold does not extend out past the siding. What would be the best way to finish that pc. of siding under the exterior door? The steps are concrete which is pretty level coming right out of the door and they set back from the door a few inches
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 3 года назад
Personally I prefer to use a piece of coloured metal under the door in those situations. I will often use even a piece cut from fascia,cut it longer than the width of the door by 2 -4 inches and nail it in place where the siding will cover the nails near the outside . Run the side J channels long from the sides of the door to the step. If you need more help or a picture of what I'm explaining please post in our forum.www.house-improvements.com/forums/

I bought an expensive fiberglass dooe and the damn thing came delivered and installed with pine brick mold. The pine brick mold in 5 years rotted at the bottom even though I top coated it every other year. Water settles at the bottom as the water runs down. Why would a door mfr. do that when they know the reason you're buying an exterior water proof door to begin? It's like buying a Corvette with a fiberglass body because you hate rust, only to find out the wheel wells are still made of metal. Doesn't make sense except to build in obsolescence.

If you were using J channel and brick molding there wouldn’t be anything added along the wall between them, so I’m not sure an extra two inches to wrap onto the wall is really that helpful. Or are you suggesting that the cut ends of the metal could damage the house wrap?

The trend of putting commercials in the middle of videos will eventually kill youtube. I'm already watching fewer videos. I'm bailing on this one because I'll never do this. I would have watched all of it otherwise.
@HouseImprovements
@HouseImprovements 5 лет назад
I understand your frustration. Most video adds will give you an option to turn them off after 5 seconds or so. Us as You Tube creators depend on these adds as a source of revenue to keep producing videos and content . If there were no adds we would either not produce many videos or would have to charge to watch them and no one would pay to watch them. Sorry for the inconvenience Maxid1, you are one of our long time watchers and would hate to loose you.
@Maxid1
@Maxid1 5 лет назад
It might be different if it wasn't the same 3 commercials on every monetized channels videos. Do you have any control of where the ads go? I'm seeing some channels with as many as 4 ads in a 15 minute video. I'll suffer through it if it's something I'll do, but if it's not a function I'll use, I just skip it. If I see leaf filter too many more times I may lose my mind. I understand the economics of it. Just like TV, they have to sell ads to pay for production, but I don't watch tv anymore because of it. Soon youtube will suffer the same fate. It's a shame.
