Do you leave the pump going all the time in the waterbutt to keep it circulated or do you switch it on just for mixing?

+Aarons Aquarium I have just bought the vyair ro di unit and have my water butts I like the way you have it set up to go straight into your tank from the water butt, that is what I want to do no more heavy lifting. could you make a video showing how you did the pipework for the butts please, love your videos so informative I have learnt a lot from your videos

+RAMS0Y You could just take your water directly from the sea. There are loads of successful tanks that run on natural sea water.

Aarons Aquarium I'm thinking of a salt also.. and if I follow through with it... 😃 I may be contacting you... 😄😄 I do love them but from my looking it appears to be quite involved.. still a thought process. Lol.

+Ivory Queen It can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be. My tank looks complicated because im keeping more demanding corals. You could start with a fish only tank that requires about the same care as a freshwater tank. You could also get a few soft corals this also will be just like keeping a freshwater tank. Once you start getting to grips with things you could step up to more demanding corals.

Aarons Aquarium I really like the beautiful corals so I will probably have those also.. but I do plan on doing a lot research and if I do decide.. I will begin slowly.. lol. Not sure what soft corals are.... but the easier it can be for me as a beginner the better...

Hi, can you please tell me how you measure the quantity of RO water in your water butt before adding your salt, do you use a meter or is your water butt marked to show you the quantity. Cheers Ian

Cant the proper amount of salt be added directly into your aquarium that is already filled with water? Then just let it cycle for a few hours?

Can i buy premixed aquarium water from a pet store and just let it cycle in my own tank? Im doing a fowlr tank. Can i also use a canister filter that I previously used for freshwater? And can anemones live in fowlr tanks?

Yes you can buy pre mixed water from you LFS. You can use a Canister from a freshwater tank but make sure you give it a good clean first. Freshwater bacteria and Saltwater bacteria are not the same so you can't use it to seed your new saltwater setup. Putting a Nem in a fish only setup will depend on what fish you decide to keep.

when I was a kid I brought sea shrimp and put them in a small aquarium I think I heavily salted my water. They jumped out of the water and died.

I need help on deciding what to do for my sump. Im thinking of getting a trigger systems emerald 34 but I' unsure what i could use all the space it has for.

+mrcow51 That is an awesome looking sump. Well in the first overflow looks like you can choose between filter socks or floss. The next section will be for a skimmer. After that is your Refugium followed by your return section. Its very similar to the one i built on my channel.

it depends on the salt you are using as they have different mix ratios. Probably best to the directions on the tube buddy.

how long can the mixed salt water stay in the water butt or will it not matter because of the pump moving it around?

That is something no one can agree on. Some say 24 hours some say a week some say a month. Honestly I can't give you a correct answer. I've kept Saltwater in a Rainwater butt for a week with no ill effects.

lSwainsonl Yes I normally don't have saltwater in a container for longer than an hour because I only mix it when I need it. RO water on the other hand I store for months in my rainwater butt.

Alex hogg Most salts now days don't need to mix for that long and some advise against it. Anywhere upto 4 Hours is fine for most salts now.

Hi, I want to start a salt water aquarium. The sea is just a few meters away from our house. How many times do I need to chane water? I have fresh water aquarium and want to try saltwater so I can have a reef aquarium.
