Hi dude I’ve been struggling with heavy guitars for a long time too. I was wondering if you managed to figure it out and have any tips?

@@keegan6298 idk iam happy now i must say. some sounds simply suck and it is pure horror to make them fit into a mix. basically everything has to fit. Pickups, Amp, speaker and mic placement... i only use d.i. + helix native and a kemper now and IRs i trust. This gets the job done very fast. the right amount of poweramp saturation and the frequency distribution in front of the amp is crucial. the body rez pedal in front of an amp is a great way to dial in more or less mud ... and mud gets rid of fizz... more poweramp saturation will also get rid of fizz, it is hard to explain everything in a few sentences but idk maybe i make a video about everything i learned until now. Today i had to mix a song and i completely got rid of the recorded guitar even though it was a soldano, i only used the d.i. + helix native then. The best amp sucks if the cab, mic and mic placement and the instrument sucks, Today i only added a little low cut to my guitar and it is fat and sits in the mix ... that is not always the case but this combination worked very well

Thanks ever so much AMB! It really depends on the section! Typically for a chorus I might double them and pan them, but use slightly different amp or pickup combinations to create width!

@@Producelikeapro , sorry to drudge up old comment but he's referring to 6:11 (decapitator)... Jonas, decapitator is a clipper (distortion / harmonics). I personally hear it as adding more variation/movement to the sound. Example. If the sound were totally clean and you did a palm mute, it would go dead silent after the strings were muted. But if it's got a TON of gain, the guitar would feedback (if a real amp in same room as guitarist). To my ear the decapitator in this instance add some of that 'gargling' around the sound making it seem more aggressive, kinda like a harley davidson at a stoplight before it revs up again. Just how I hear it. Also more color/movement in the upper harmonics. More texture, less like a digital plugin of an amp. Gritty.

Hi Joonas N great question! Two independent performances will add not just volume but width and interest to your mix, balancing both sides! Try it you’ll really like what it adds!

The discrepancies between the left- and right-panned guitar parts that were recorded separately are what creates the stereo effect. If you just copy the same track twice and pan it -100 and +100 it will sound as if right in the middle but louder than if there was a single track in the middle. When we hear any natural sound it travels differently to each of our ears, and reflects from different materials under varying angles. All that results in that our brain receives slightly different signals from each ear, having differences in both timing and frequencies. That's what we try to recreate when we record the same part twice

Hi Marcin, thanks for your comment! There's three different songs here with three different Producers/Mixers showing the Guitars in and out of the mix etc. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing!

Use the reverb on a dedicated track,to which you send all guitar tracks. Send the as they are panned and just use a pan reverse/flip plugin on your fx track.

This is probably the most useless comment I ever read in my life. You are here to learn about sound, not to be a donkey.

The bass is (usually) there to fill out the main melody and the sound of the guitars themselves. Guitars are fundamentally less bassy than a bass guitar. You can tune a six string guitar very low and play the same notes as a bass, but it won't sound nearly as full and, well, bassy. So it kind of completes the sound of a rock ensemble. It is a part of what makes a six-string guitar sound heavy in a mix. They usually sound very thin with no bass track underneath.

Use BIAS FX 2. Its an Amp Simulation Plugin. The free demo is just fine. You just put the plugin on the audio track of your guitar input from the interface
