I was homeschooled and I find this video very relatable. All the fashion don'ts you gave are exactly what my homeschool friends and I wore in middle school. I wouldn't say that it was a bad thing, just funny to look back on. I absolutely LOVED homeschooling! Oh, and I can definitely tell who is homeschooled when in public!
I don’t really dress modestly but your videos interest me a lot. I love how you never set a standard, you always say “your target sleeve length” and “your target neck length.” Very cool
Your channel is so well produced and you have such a needed niche!! Thank you for giving a voice to us girls who want to look modest AND cute. I’m so excited to follow along with your videos. You seriously are so enjoyable (and genuinely funny) to watch on camera, your information is to the point and very helpful, and your intensely creative spirit, not only in fashion, and painting, but also in video production shines through so clearly. Your intro montage is one of the best I’ve seen on RU-vid. I pray that you keep sharing your God-given gifts with the world! Thank you for inspiring me 😊😊💗💗
Great video! "Bandaid on your outfit' is the perfect description of the short sleeve cardigan. Also, how is this still something homeschoolers were wearing in 2019? We were wearing those, plus denim skirts and the v-neck-camisole-combo in 1999!
I heard a pastor teaching that women should dress modestly, so as not to cause their Christian brothers to stumble with lust. We are responsible for our behavior and it cannot be blamed on how women dress if a guy stumbles. Besides I used to lust even if she was wearing a paper bag.
Oh, man...so my 15 year old daughter sent me to your channel because she was so horrified at how 2000's I am! I am 45 and have been homeschooling for 12 years...we have 5 kids the oldest is a sophomore in college and the youngest is 10. I have definitely done some of these things...a lot of it for me has been driven by just wanting to have one less thing to worry about in the morning...but I have 3 daughters who are all old enough and aware enough that they are trying to help me out. Thank you for your kind advice! I will see what I can do!
I really enjoy your channel! I grew up totally opposite of you, I grew up around bikers and modesty was never important to me or the majority of the people I was around. I've always felt sexualized, even as a young kid. This may sound silly but it's never really occurred to me that I don't have to dress sexy or show off my body, It's just always what I've done because that's what everyone else around me has done/that's what the people I looked up to look like. You opened my eyes to a new perspective and you make modesty really look cute. Thanks! :)
Haha, this so funny. I was not homeschooled, nor was I raised religious, however I did grow up in a very small, isolated city so I remember regularly seeing all of this stuff as a kid/teenager. I've owned the long denim skirt before, and I definitely remember the camisole under a v neck seeming almost like a trend where I lived, except that the camisole HAD to have a lacy trim on top. Maybe this is just me because I didn't grow up in a very populated area, but I feel like so much has changed for young girls in a short amount of time. What's considered normal to wear is so small and revealing, and I'm not even talking about just not wearing the camisole under the v neck heh. Go look at pretty much everything being sold at American Eagle right now as an example. It's all cropped, often with wide and low necklines, the shorts and skirts are tiny and meant to be worn with the cropped top, the jeans can sometimes have so many holes there's more holes than jeans. And even the oversized t-shirt trend is made revealing because they're usually worn with shorts so short it looks like you aren't wearing anything on the bottom at all. Sorry this is turning into a rant, but it is interesting how little clothing a normal girl is wearing at this point. Read what you want into that.
I don’t know if I would say I dress modestly ... however, now that I’m in my 30s I LOVE being COMFORTABLE! You mentioned that in one of your other videos I just watched. I wore a shorter denim skirt to the mall the other day and after walking around for 5 minutes I wanted to cry and rip that stupid thing off!! Normally I wear tights with my skirts but for SOME REASON I thought this was a good idea to not. I am a #1 fan of no fuss clothing. So that’s why I really think I can relate to your channel. I have colored hair, tattoos, piercings and everyone says they don’t see that when they look at me because I always look put together and not like trash with my style. Also, your plaid skirt in this video is SO CUTE. I’m looking at a similar one on amazon right now and you’ve inspired me to just get it!
I used to wear a cami under a v neck all the time, partially because I loved layering. Now, I hate layering and I think I own maybe 2 v neck shirts. A good place to get modest crew neck shirts that don't choke you is UNIQLO =)
I do like a long denim maxi skirt however I dont wear them with baggy shirts they are a little more fitted amd wear them with sleek boots to me its great for winter
I don't think the camis with v necks and long jean skirts are always plain. It depends on the person or how they wear it. Personaly I like it. Just like you were saying to put a little more effort into your outfit, you can do the same with those styles to make them flattering. It's okay if it's not everyone's style but don't throw it away altogether of you like it because you could make it work nice
You know, I don’t often subscribe to a channel, but yours is so nice and sensible and helpful, that finally, I did! Do you have any non-high heel shoe suggestions?
Ruth Anna Shell Aw thank you so much! I do actually! I’m not a huge fan of heels so I mostly buy flats. I really like mules, loafers, Oxfords, derby shoes, slip on sneakers, or slingback flats. There’s lot of options!
i actually quite like the skirt and sandal examples you gave hear me out hear me out ! i follow the asian fashion scene, and things like that can definitely be cute if you can style them correctly like the skirt for example, you could pair it with a nice modestly cut frilly cropped tank (assuming you wear the skirt high waisted, so barely any skin shows, if any) you could even throw a small jacket over it, if its not too hot, in case you have a thing with shoulders/collarbones (i personally think they're elegant, not sexy/immodest) that would be really cute with the sandals you gave, and maybe even add a cute little tote bag 😳😳 just my opinion tho styling can definitely help; there are few things that escape that hehe
This is my first time watching one of your videos. I am curious about the photos you use to illustrate the "don'ts." You show faces ... and I wonder if you got written permission from those people to use their images? I sure hope you did! I know that I would feel humiliated if someone used a photo of me online, without my permission.
This was a great video and I'm guilty of some of these things 😬. I homeschool my kids. And the fact that I have 6 kids already labels me as a homeschooler, so I try to dress in a way that blends in with society (modestly). So question - I like to wear camis under my shirt because it makes me feel secure and since I'm nursing my twins, it keeps me covered when I pull up my shirt. Sometimes the cami shows in the chest when my shirt is low, but I'm also wondering about camis showing around the waist? I think that's not a thing anymore, but it makes me feel comfortable to extend my shirt with a cami. But then it covers up my belt and probably doesn't help to define my "waist" (let's be real though, my waist is not something I like to highlight after having 6 kids) What do you think? TIA!!
Catholic Homelife thank you for such a good question! 6 kids is amazing! You go mom!! I have had a lot of conversations with my sister about clothes when she was pregnant and nursing and I know it’s important to have clothes that are practical over stylish. I don’t think you should get rid of something that makes you feel comfortable and secure! Maybe just for now try tucking in the cami and leaving the shirt untucked? That’s seriously such a good question though! Would you like if I made a pregnancy and nursing modesty video?
