How to oil pneumatic tools
Hey, I’m Barend from Tameson, and today we’re going to discuss how to oil pneumatic tools. First, we’ll see if your pneumatic tool needs oiling. If it's needed, we will discuss why oiling is important, how to oil a pneumatic tool, and, finally, we will cover how often you should lubricate them.
Does your tool require oiling?
It is important to first check to see if your pneumatic tool requires lubrication. The tool's user manual should clearly state if it requires lubrication and the kind of lubrication. If the tool doesn’t require oiling, you might see something in the documentation such as "oil-free", "oilless", or "self-lubricating".
Why oiling is important
Yes, oiling is important to maintain your pneumatic tool and for good performance. Regular oiling helps prevent freeze-ups and tool deterioration. Oiling removes any residual moisture that accumulates during use and prevents rust. Moreover, the oil creates a coating that prevents metal-on-metal contact and reduces friction, allowing smoother operation and extended air tool life.
How to oil a pneumatic tool
Next, we’ll look at the steps in oiling a pneumatic tool. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for your specific tool to find its oiling requirements.
Now, let's get started.
Step 1: Ensure you are using oil suitable for pneumatic equipment.
Step 2: Locate the air inlet on the pneumatic tool. Now add a small amount of oil in this port, around 5-10 drops. Make sure you don't over-oil your tool, because this can result in damage over time.
Step 3: Operate the tool for a few minutes to allow the oil to circulate and lubricate the moving parts.
How often do you oil your air tool?
The frequency of tool usage will determine how often you should oil it. There is no fixed set frequency for daily, weekly, or even monthly lubrication. If the tool is used daily, it should probably be lubricated at the start of the day. The best way to gauge the proper oiling frequency is to consult the tool's manufacturer.
And that's it! With just a few simple steps, you can keep your pneumatic tools well-maintained.
