I was just "playing" with some fatwood yesterday that I had in my garage. You are soooo right when talking about using it. You can feather it, light it with a fired source, but it would seem the most enjoyable easiest way is simply scrapping it down into a pile, spark it, and watch it burn. I will have to try that stand up and fill with scrappings when everything is wet. It looks like a great way to get wet tinder dried out enough to burn and ignite the twigs etc. thanks for another great video demonstration

Absolutely Awesome work. I did my scrapings with the saw blade spine of my leatherman. I was using scrapings prior, however with my knife blade edge, witch actually made a dust that was too fine. The saw blade was the perfect detail I just discovered because of this video. Thanks & much respect! Keep up the great work 🌲🔥🗡🤠👍🇺🇸

I like that you demonstrated this. Interesting technique of making small holes in the log to stick upright pieces. Still have a fireban in effect here, hoping it will lift soon enough. Have a great week and God bless.

I bought my victorinox when I wasn't interested in bushcraft fire starting. So I chose to have S14 model. It has a nice locking blade, scissors and everything but a SAW. It was the biggest mistake of my life so far. Maybe I can just grind backs of my other folding knives, benchmade, spyderco, fallkniven etc. Oh, recently I bought Speedy Sharp carbide sharpener to use as a striker and it gives me sparks like hellfire. It seems it is better than anything else. You may already know it but I just wanted to comment. So according to your video, it seems scraping gives you good dry tinders when it's raining. I will remember this. As always, thank you so much for the lesson, sir.

@@DavidWestBgood2ppl Yes, it looks beautiful and the saw can be used for tinders. A lot better than those SAKs without a saw. Good choice. Thank you for your video and comments.

Does fatwood explode during bushfires mate. I imagine it burns hot and fierce, but being so flammable, it must really flare up in a hurry. Thanks for the vid, really informative. Steven.

I've seen whole Pine Trees sort of explode into flames in forest fires.
@cellerfeller1474
@cellerfeller1474 5 месяцев назад
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl The power of a forest fire is hard to comprehend. A hot fire can create a mini cyclone that can pull an entire tree out of the ground. Foresters in Northern Ontario were seeing odd circular patches in the ground on air photos - turns out it was trees and/or stumps that had been ripped from the ground by fire.

Mr. West ➡, have you found shavings of fatwood be fairly reliable as a fire starter, even when being actively rained upon, like in your video?🤔🤔 Thank you for posting this information as I am new to Buschcraft!😁

Do you harvest your own fat wood? If so, the harvesting process might make a good video. Also, could you make a fire starter that would start in moist or damp conditions, and burn for 15 minutes? That would be interesting, and useful Finally, I can highly recommend the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Car Wash, followed by the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating. Very easy to apply, and phenomenal long lasting protection, and water beading. I purchased at Advance Auto, but available on Amazon, and at Turtle Wax. Check out Pan the Organizer for great car detailing videos on RU-vid. usstore.turtlewax.com/products/hybrid-solutions-ceramic-spray-coating-16-fl-oz
