I just left a toxic relationship. He used to do all this kind of thing for me. I was overly anxious about opening a bottle for thanksgiving, alone with the kids. 45° angle has nothing to do with preventing bubbles to rush to the top. That is physics nonsense. It's just to minimise damage should the cork shoot out anyway.
The cork isn't going to shoot anywhere unless ya very limp wristed ....with any bottle of liquid If you take the top of the bottle and quickly turn upside down , count how long the liquid takes to leave the bottle .... Now do it again with a long straw that reaches the bottom of the bottle and also sticks out the top .... Do the same test again... It will be a lot quicker as the suction from the Air/Co2 will be neutralised by it own path out the bottle. This is what's happening when the bottle is tilted. ...ya not blocking the gasses path.
Just keep the bottle pointed AWAY from your face. That's all you need to do. Also, you can put a clean washcloth or dish towel over the cork, that way the towel will stop the cork from flying away and will stop it from hitting you in the face. Solutions, man. You're building way too much in your head.
