After two days of trying unsuccessfully to rebuild a motor I came across your video which is the only one that ever mentioned the little pin on the planetary gear set, I looked around and found it, put it all back and it worked, you saved me from a really uncomfortable situation with my girlfriend explaining how I broke her bike by fixing it lmao, thanks a lot !

I have a Yamee ebike with 6000 miles. Last week the hub started to sound like a piston knocking. I was at a stop light today and when I went to take off the rear wheel froze up. I watched your video then took the rear hub apart to find all three of my white plastic clutch gears were broken. I ordered them on Amazon and will have it fixed in two days. Thank you for making this video.

Put the nut on that axle before hitting it. You are damaging the threads. Every mechanic SHOULD know this.

With these little dings nothing will happen, I know that MIGHT damage the threads and still do it with way more force I managed to 2 times damage a thread in probably 100 times. And both times I just slightly dremeled that thread slightly on the dinged end and screwed it in no issues with a drill Humans are lazy, just how it is

Thank you for this video! As someone already pointed out, you are the only video that mentions that CRUCIAL little pin that locks the planetary gears to the axle. One thing that I thought wasn't clear and hopefully this helps someone else is that the pin doesn't actually go into the planetary gears, but actually on the side of the axle itself (it just pops right in with almost no resistance). If you look at the axle you will notice a perfect indentation for the pin which will then allow you to line up that notch in the planetary gears and it fits together seamlessly. Another thing I didn't see mentioned and this may be model specific (mine is a Himiway Cruiser), but there are thin gold washers that go on after the planetary gears. I had slight play in my axle from side to side after tightening everything back up, but I needed to add both thin gold washers very last before putting the motor back in the hub. Just those 2 thin gold washers tightened everything back up and there was no longer any side to side play. Thanks again!

I changed the planetary gears several times. You can replace the whole set or only the gears using a screwdriver and fingers. How frequently is a good idea to open the hub motor and put grease in it at the planetary gears?
@RizeBikes
@RizeBikes 2 года назад
This is purely dependent on how much it's used and how long time passes between rides. If you use it seasonally, for only a few months of the summer, we recommend re-greasing it when you pull it out of storage and do a general tuneup, as well (bleed the brakes, oil the gears, oil the chain, etc.). However, if you use it all the time, we recommend you service it every 1000km or so. If the motor seems to get louder, grindy, or making any other odd noise, it's time to get a check up done. Good luck!

Hello, We have videos on our channel on how to change the planetary gear on different models of Bafang model found on our various eBikes! Hi Craig I loved the video thank you. May I pick your brains on a matter please? I have a Lafly x5 fatbike with 1000w motor. After 1 year, (and me changing rear tyres and probably not fitting the wheel back in properly or tightly enough) I suddenly came across a debilitating fault, where the spindle, appeared to be turning inside the frame, maybe the washer and mangling the power cable which just pulled out of it's connection. I saw the drop out corners were damaged and I paid a solderer to repair it. He did a good job. But it didn't work. That's when i realised it was turning inside the lock washer, the one with the hook that goes into the drop out. I ordered a new pack handed it to the bike shop, and they fixed it all together. It worked! They also serviced it and made everything 100%. But now after 2 days, I've noticed the spindle with the flat sides has turned at least 30-40 degrees. It seems to turn a little bit maybe 3 degrees every time I go out on it. I'm beginning to wonder if its the spindle itself because the flat edged lock washers are new and stainless steel. So I don't want to throw the bike away, it's perfect in every respect. Please help me to save it. My idea was to buy another pack of washers and put lock washers on the outside of the frame as well, both sides. Just an idea. Desperate, as most bike shops don't want to know. The last bike shop will take another look but I want to research answers for them.

@winstonpoplin 14 дней назад
Mid drive motors are far better in my opinion. Get a BBSHD 1000w watt motor and it will pull anything you ever needed. It is a true workhorse of a motor. With mid drives you actually get to put the motors power through the transmission so you can have way more torque at slow speeds and go faster at high speeds. Also not having your rear wheel weigh 20 pounds is nice.

What type of grease and brand do you use for hub gears?
@RizeBikes
@RizeBikes 2 года назад
In our shop we use a generic brand of Lithium based grease with a listed NLGI 2 rating (rated for high temperatures). There is no perfect grease or major standout for brands. When looking for grease you want to find a grease that follows these guidelines: NLGI rating of 1 to 2, able to withstand high heat and friction, ok for metal and nylon gears, water resistant.

*The very fact you make a detailed video to show your customers how to service the quality Bafang rear hub motors on the E-bikes you sell demonstrates you are a decent E-Bike retailer. This market is severely underserviced in Canada, with many sellers out there who are sketchy at best. The Electric scooter market in Canada is practically non-existent. 😳If you are in Canada, things get very opaque and frustrating, when it comes to shopping for an electric bicycle, and downright nearly impossible if you want an electric scooter ! 👎🏻👀 I sincerely hope Rize will get into the electric foldable, portable Kickscooter with seat option market segment soon as well. They make quality E-bikes ! 👍😃There is a great need for a small (under 30 lbs) foldable, portable, electric kickscooter for around ($995.00 to $1,500.00 CAD). In my extensive and ongoing research as someone who's looking for an alternative EV solution to my now unaffordable car, I'm coming up with next to nothing in my own country for this market (??) 💁😳 EVERYTHING IS MADE IN CHINA ! 💁😳😳😳 Chinese e-scooter companies are online only, you can't call them, as they don't want to know you or deal with you, they just want to get your cash and drop ship a bike from a central warehouse onto a ship. The ship takes 2 weeks to reach North America, then an extra 6 weeks to get it onloaded onto a truck just to enter the ground courrier or Canada Post Mail System ! IT'S A FREAKING GODDAM NIGHTMARE !!! 👀👎🏻👎🏻🥺🥺🥺This is no way to do business if you are in Canada, and just want to buy an alternative E-Bike or E-Scooter, but is the perfect operation for them, because you're dealing with a shadowy dude who sits in his appartment in front of his laptop ! 👀👀🤨. May I just say as a customer I am not impressed ! 😡😡😡😡🤨🤨🤨🤨👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻Forgive the length of this post, but I needed to get this rant off of my chest ! I'm glad to see Rize supporting Canadian Customers, because this market frankly SUCKS BIG TIME !!!😡😡😡🤨🤨🤨👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻💁👀👀 P.S. I forgot to mention that trying to buy from a US retailer of E-Scooters or E-Bicycles is also another goddam freakin' nightmare ! 😳😳😳After speaking with several US resellers I am hearing the same, familiar phrase over and over again - "Sorry, we don't ship to Canada." 💁👀👀👀*

Can hub shell be replaced alone? Do you have the name of some vendors? Can u steer me in the right direction? Hope u can help. /bklyn 👑

If you look up the Bafang H500W it has rims like that. But i think the motor and rim need to be designed together. Since the outer shell of the hub motor is built into the rim.

I blew out my nylon gears in about 1400km. My other less powerful e-bike did 3600km and they're still pretty good. I'd say go for nylon, even though my broke, because nylon gears are cheap to replace. If metal gears wear out the hub instead of breaking like nylon gears, you'll need a new hub.
@Crowfist
@Crowfist Месяц назад
They use nylon because if they were metal and they failed it would grenade the entire motor. Not all plastics are the same and getting a quality set of nylon gears will be better for the long term in my opinion.

@RizeBikes
@RizeBikes 7 месяцев назад
Hello! A planetary gear setup is more cost effective, smaller in size and weight, and easier to maintain. Planetary gear setups also have higher torque on the low end compared to direct drive which is where most eBike's shine the best, in stop and go riding (Think riding in your local downtown), and finally, planetary gears get more km out of the same battery vs a direct drive.

I would open up the motor and try soldering new wires to the old wires, depending on how they're connected to the motor (probably on a little board) i might consider desoldering or getting as close as possible to the existing solder joints of the old wires and I would go up one gauge on the wires and get quality wire maybe a dedicated ebike cable with the right number of strands or maybe silicone jacketed wire, i think sometimes the wires they use could be a bit beefier considering most motors pull 500w and up and having thicker wire might help it be slightly more efficient and prevent them breaking, the silicone or other high grade insulation would also help

How often should we open up the motor to re-grease it?
@RizeBikes
@RizeBikes 2 года назад
This is purely dependent on how much the e-bike is used and the time between use. If you use the e-bike seasonally, for only a few months of the summer, we'd re-grease it when you pull it out of storage and do a general tuneup as well. Bleed the brakes, oil the gears and chain, etc. If you use the e-bike all the time, then servicing every 1,000 kms is recommended. If the motor seems to get louder, grinding, or making any other odd noise, it's time to get a check-up done.

Is it true that a lot of people are going through more hub motors than a mid motor, I bought a bafang mid motor an fitted it on my carrera hellcat lmt edition 29er, Its a bad ass bike, Well happy with the build but i bought a mid motor because i read hub motors are burning out on people, Dont you bother with mid motors?, I am thinking of doing another bafang build after xmas, On a full suspension, I want too buy a CYC 3-5000w, I want the power for trails, Im going to start hitting a place called Brecon Beacons in Wales, Its almost on my doorstep, But need more power for the hills, An those CYC motors sounds amazing lol, Yeah its a big question to hub or not too hub, Or mid or not too mid, lol, Either way PEV'S, Be it E-scooters E-bikes, E-boards or E-wheels, I do want an E-Wheel is future of travel, But police here in the UK will just take it off me, Been having stress over my E-scooter, Yeah it is a 40mph monster scooter but i dont do those speeds all the time, lol, Police still dont realise if you full on throttle all the time battery wont last long, The gov in the UK have made summit that cuts out electric motors, Too stop people who use those sur-rons i think, People do there runnings on them coz they qiuck, Guess police been having issues trying to catch crims on thier sur-rons, Sad really tho coz it messes it up for legit people, When people ride crazy on these Sur-ron bikes the people who dont ride crazy gets stopped ect, So a few spoil it for the many, Typical britishness i guess, lol.... Yeah do you do the mid motors,???

@RizeBikes
@RizeBikes 4 месяца назад
Hello, Its suggested you use whichever OEM one you had. If your motor came with nylon gears, replace them with nylon. Swapping them could cause harm and there are pros/cons between the two material so the choice of either is not as obvious as one may think. Nylon wears better down but has much smoother/quieter operation compared to metal.

No, because the main source of overheating would be from friction since this is a spinny boi. The motor can run perfect under its electrical load and if it is over heating there is an external issue like too much weight or dumping too many electrics into it all at once

You forgot to show how to check the one way bearing on the middle of the planetary gear. It can sometimes seize up and not work as intended. It can cause jerking and noisier sounding motor. Leading to a lot more motor vibration to the bike frame at certain speeds.
