I'm self taught, grew up poor, and I'm 50. no big success story ; started with a computer from the trash and determination. 8 years in, still full of doubt and questions but I keep pushing because I love doing this. I lost my job recently, so I want to pour all my energy into my design service. I want to take care of my wife and kids doing so. I live in a poor community but I know I can branch out nationwide. I'm in groups and meet new people but it's not working. I'm in designer limbo right now. Your videos inspire me to keep pushing and I really appreciate you Chris.

Last year, I resigned from my 7-year job as a secretary and started working on my dream business and transitioning my career into arts. It was the toughest decision I made because my coworkers and the company were good but I think in my heart and soul that I was called to do something else. I know that since then before the pandemic happened, I already heard that tiny little voice, but I disregarded it until my anxiety grew and it manifested in my health. Over the past 2 years, I have been going in and out of the hospital and I have been crying every time I come to work. One day, I said to myself, that this needs to be stopped, I need to stand up for myself and go out of my comfort zone and chase after my dreams. Back to the present, I still don't know the new path that I am creating but it seems I felt the happiest and proud of myself. I am now doing what I love and creating new things for myself. I am 30 years old and I still have a lot of things to discover. I am still afraid of the unknown but it excites me at the same time. I am so lucky that I found your channel, your videos always bring valuable lessons into my life. Thank you again! Always binge-watching here.

This is when you caught my real attention. I get it!! I'm 57, divorced after 23 years of marriage. I believe I can recreate myself and I'm working in that direction. I have a brand and plan and I have time, So I'm working at it. Remember I'm old to all this technology,, but I'm teaching myself through RU-vid. 😊😊 My brand is to help other women achieve anything they want. One of my best moves was getting my motorcycle license at 53. Last year I rode the southwest Canyons 1500 miles on a harley, my hair blowing in this warm sun as I drove down route 66, and thought this is amazing and I'm doing it! I have a job to do and my vision is clear. That's where I am. Thank you for your story. ❤

7:35 "I wanted to prove my mom wrong". I dunno if she did that on purpose, but from your story, she's the one who made you start being responsible and able to act. If she would make you feel better then, you'd have a longer journey (if at all) to your success.

Having finished the video: here's my answer to your question. I was right out of college (summer 2020) and living in isolation with roommates as everything was shut down. I was working on making spec film commercials to try and kickstart some freelance work, I had called Starbucks to try and apply for part-time work but they were on a hiring freeze - basically I was treading water and was deciding whether to move back home or stick it out. At the end of summer I was offered a job teaching high school photography. I'd studied filmmaking, but never photography, and felt a little (or a lot) like an impostor. The mentor who got me through it was a friend who was also teaching at the school - he told me to go for it, that I certainly knew enough to teach high school, and that I would figure it out as I went. Long story short I took the job, two weeks later was teaching, and four years later it's one of the best choices I've made. The first semester was full of very late nights at coffee shops teaching myself Photoshop. (Chris, this is what you called "beast mode" I think :)). But then it got easier. (And we definitely watched some The Futur videos in class.) The lesson I learned is: It's good to push yourself a little bit ahead of where you're comfortable. I remembered a video where you said "an expert is someone who knows a little more than you do." And so I made sure to know at least a little more about photography than my students, and that let me help them. THANKS for sharing Chris! P.S. One of my students that first year ended up being my wedding photographer. (She priced the event based on our class discussions on your take on value-based pricing.) :)

My mom was always satisfied with the regular jobs while each time when i wanted to pursue career as a gamer or competitive sports (yea i know this sounds completely opposite of each other), she was always why don't you do something "normal"... now when I am older, and when i did what I wanted and when she sees me successful and happy, she is happy that I sticked to my path :)

These personal stories are great and have many benefits. One of those benefits is relatability on the sometimes enigma that can be "Chris Do". Many people kick against your guidance and advice because you're further up the mountain than they are where the view of everything is just fundamentally different. Showing people "Hey, I'm not just riding the wave of success and therefore I get to say these things" VS "Hey, here is my journey - character flaws, childish internal dialogue, family pressure and expectation of opportunities granted, and ultimately a rejection from institutions and a mom's confidence in her son's dream". It shows that a shift in mindset had to take place to get to your part of the mountain versus shouting down from the top "Here do this and it will produce this result". Love the story Chris. It doesn't change how I view you, it only reinforces the credibility that you already occupy in my heart and mind.

Wow! Powerful story Chris, thank you for sharing. I had a call to action next to a railway line in 2016 just before my second daughter arrived. It prompted me to sell my agency and start coaching, and inspired a lot by our mutual friend Daniel Priestley. In the moment it felt awful having to make a decision, but with hindsight it was one of the biggest and best decisions I ever made.

i've been raised in community where they used to compare me with others in term of grades , physical appearance and so on. i grew up with low sight of my self such us low self-esteem, social anxiety until the day came when i started to look at my self with different vision. At that time i foud out that i have every thing just need to work on me and initiat to prioticize me over the others . From then on , i become another person by all means such as express my thought, boost my skills and the key takeway is enhance my communication skills.

Don’t give up man, I dropped out of college at 19 after only taking a few classes, I didn’t go back to school until my early 30s. Now I’m 42, I have my bachelors and masters degrees, and have create and a habit of learning. We all develop/ grow at different speeds but if you keep trying, you will get where you need to be in life. Maybe not when you wanted to, but you will get there. It gets better.

I'm not certain, but I think more questuons can lead you to understanding yourself more, and closer to some answers. Such questions can be, 1. Who do I feel doesn't like me? 2. Where am I usually, when I feel disliked? 3. What am I doing or trying to do when I feel disliked? 4. When did this begin? / oldest memory of this feeling 5. What does it mean to me, to be liked or disliked? 6. Why do I feel disliked? - what evidence is there to make me believe this? 7. Who do I want to like me? 8. Who does like me and why? and one of the biggest imo, 9. Why do I want to be liked? - what do I believe it will do for me? .. I think emotions are information, and to decode that information, one might have to run a few tests, by asking questions. What do you this of you this? Is it something you're willing to try?

What to say to make you understand that your fluff words mean nothing in the real world; or how dismissive your words are of the point I made; how your comment was meant to make you feel better, like you did something positive, not to comfort me. But none of that matters. You'll never understand. In fact, it's clear that you don't even have any friends that would understand, or you'd be more empathetic and humble. Of course life is about making the best of it. It doesn't mean that those of us born with enemies instead of parents can't wonder what it would be like to have a mommy that loved us instead of being a junkie; to have family that supported growth rather than tear us down and make fun of us for wanting to be better. Can you imagine?! Imagine working your tail off to overcome years of poverty and addiction, just be shunned as a "snob." You can't fathom it. It's not, oh, I wish my parents could have paid for college for me, too. It's, I wonder how much further I'd be in life if I could have slept at night rather than watch my mom get beat up. If I didn't have night terrors and migraine headaches from CPTSD starting at age 5. My 7th grade history teacher used to give me hell for missing school. When my family showed up on the news for being removed from my father's house, back in 96, before social media and internet, that teacher apologized with tears in his eyes the next time I saw him. So... How about you stick to surfing videos- and leave the condescending commentary to the professionals.
