How to PAINT and prep a LEATHER JACKET! Part one of the leather jacket project

Great vid kody! Just some tips for people watching the tutorial. First: kody was the first person to teach me it doesnt matter what other punks think about how your jacket looks. IF YOU LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS THEN ITS GOOD dont buy into peer preasure or shit talking. Also if you want a tighter fit biker jacket than an american fit . find a British biker jacket, they tend to be a bit slimmer and better fit for skinny punks SECOND: i personally use spray paint in thin layers for the BIG panels of your jacket (not the lapels) and then use a brush and acrylic for small details. Then paint pens for designs. But hey! Thats just me, be yourself and try what works for you. THIRD: Stencils are your friends! If you arnt as good at free hand stencils are quick and easy to make. And makes your jacket look good no matter what your art history is. FORTH: this is optional, but for spray paint and thick layers of acrylic CAN CRACK but hey! Some people like that look! But if you dont want that over the years i use a sealer such as an acrylic spray paint clear coat. It also makes it look glossy if thats your thing. FITH: (Just joking) PUNKS MAY DRESS PUNK AND IF YOU DONT WEAR STUDS THEN INDEED FUCK YOU BUT...... make sure you measure and double measure where the studs go. Ive had a few jackets in the early days that were pretty crooked. So MEASURE WELL BEFORE STUDING. welp this has been Johnny crash saying good night sleepy time punx.💤💤💤 make good gear! Ps. that outlining on the seams looks fucking incredible, i'm embarrassed i didn't think of that! anyway, reminder to check whether your paint is matte, satin, or gloss. matte paint will have a flatter finish, gloss will look shinier, and satin is the awkward inbetween

I got done customizing an identical leather jacket last summer using those same techniques you have. But I wish I saw your video earlier about using paint pens when it comes to outlining. Unless you have a steady hand, using paint brushes for outlining, especially really thin outlines is a complete pain in the ass. Using a paint pen really saves me the trouble of making excessive mistakes. Now I'm about ready to start on a second leather jacket. Also I wish there was a less painful way of studding a jacket.

Hi man, I'm a beginner artist when it comes to making battle jackets. I'm making my first ever one next week and I was wondering if you could help me out. My jacket is faux leather/polyester and I was wondering if the rubbing alcohol will ruin the jacket, I've heard of jackets tearing after applying rubbing alcohol (especially on polyester),, so I was wondering if I could skip that step. Hey man wanted to tell you you do good. Your jackets look good!! Maybe you could answer this question, I also decorate leather jackets. The last jacket I did was Not leather, no was polyurethane of all things. I always spray a finish over my artwork to protect it. But on the last jacket the finish I use is the same I've used on all 12 of jackets I've done and SOB it hasn't dried. So I need to know of a finish I can use that will dry. Any suggestions?

The paint pen I used is coming out orange instead of red even after a couple coats (it’s fine and red on piece of paper). Anyone any recommendations? As of typing this, I’m gonna wait an hour or 2 on some parts and a whole 24hrs on others before reapplying to see if maybe it just needs more time to dry. I’m also gonna try regular paint over the pen’s paint to see if that works, which defeats the purpose of the paint pen, but maybe I can use the pen as a primer or something, idk yet. Straws are being grasped 🤷🏻 lol

I fucked up my jacket because I forgot to prep the panels, I didn't wait long enough for the paint to dry and ended up putting on way too many layers, and I accidentally used matte paint instead of gloss. Should I throw it away or can I save it? I'm broke as fuck so please don't say throw it away...
