Omgosh ~~ I know this video is a year old & I’m so happy I found you😊 Long story short..I’m going through, not so fun times, but you were able to put a smile on my face..just by being you💕 I thank you. Just to get out of my “funk” as I call it I want to paint a cat’s eye. Thankfully I found you. Step by step over two hours. Nobody does that. They want $ sure rightly so however there are people who want to teach and they don’t care about $. You have integrity. Thanks for putting a smile on my face. It has been a few since I had one. Your accent helps too. My grandparents were from Scotland, and England. Hearing your brough has helped immensely. I would love to send you my finished eye. Is there a way? Hope you’re getting along well. I’m Scottish and live in America. This has been quite a couple years aye? Hope to hear back and pray that all are happy and well ~J~
Janis, what a lovely comment, and thank you very much for taking the time to write it. Yes, you can send me your Cat's Eye painting, if you head to the eye page of my website devonartist.co.uk/tutorial-cats-eye-paint-along/ head to the bottom and click on 'Submit Your Painting'. I would love to see it Janis. Please stay well across the water and most of all keep painting, you know it puts a little smile back on your face. Paul 🎨
@@TheDevonArtist Thank you Paul. I shall send you it when finished. My 1st. This should be fun. I need to have my mind in beautiful things I can create to tame the mind. I choose yours. How fun. Challenge on 😍 this is so good for my soul. Thanks again my new friend.
My babysitter was Scottish and my oldest son developed a Texas-Scottish accent. I agree Paul made me smile too! He made me chuckle when he said that his wife Jo gave him permission to say that he's always right. Painting is so timeless, peaceful and gives happiness. Hoping all will be soon cheery for you. Hugs! (From Texas)
Just a wee tip ! why not use a small flat brush for mixing your paint. Just a half inch or less as it lifts off the paint from the small half pans more evenly and prevents you digging a hole in it.
Hi Paul & Jo~. This is Janis from “across the pond” I wrote you a comment just over a week ago. I hope that the both of you are doing well. Well, I finally had a good talking to myself (😊) about how my perfectionism is not going to get me to far in painting this beautiful cats eye. I’m happy to report I’ve been doing much better. 😊 I started to look at it as “art is not perfect”.. “it’s what the person sees that makes it art”. There are no mistakes they’re just tiny bo-bo’s that nobody would ever notice but me. So, I’m trudging on with the cats eye, and when finished I will send it your way. Two years ago when I decided to teach myself this medium, I didn’t think it would be so hard, but the good thing is, this is teaching me patience. My grandad sure would be happy to hear that! I wanted to thank you for your lovely chats while painting. Hearing about the birds outside your window chirping happily gave me a sense of calmness as well as your walk with Jo down the lane. I believe that’s what you said. Lane😊 Here in the States we call them sidewalks, but your reference is so much more charming, serene, and peaceful. Just wanted to drop off this comment to let you know I’m still working on this and have not given up. Only positive thoughts and determination from this Lass. Thank you again for all your help and encouragement. ~Janis
Hi Janis, thank you so, so much for your kind words. Yes, lanes (single track roads, bounded by hedges) we walk here in the UK are only wide enough for only one car, but they are two-way. There are a few passing places, mostly farm field gateways. You can't be car proud living here, that's for sure! 😂 We very often have to do quite a lot of reversing, especially with the farm tractors here in our village, very rural. You said many true words about painting, the right way to paint is the way we personally feel happy with doing, in other words, to me there is no wrong way. Yes, push yourself to try something different and more challenging, it's how we learn after all. But, knowing you are in a good place with your painting means a lot to me, it shows I must be doing something right. 😊 Keep those brushes wet Janis, Paul 🎨
Hi, I use cold pressed 140lb, I do have a little video on here regarding the paper I use, here it is if it helps, Paul 😀 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t4aCnb3DvCE.html
You are a wonderful painter but too much side chat and fooling with the camera. I would rather see a close up of the eye as you paint and not worry about seeing the paint tray. Still a thumbs up 😄
Hi Heather, thank you very much. Sadly this is simply 'me' and the way I chat/paint, so I can't really make a straight, no chat (other than what I am doing), video. It's just the way I am but thank you for watching. Incidently, I do zoom into the details much more within my website online members videos, mainly because I have full control over how the videos are produced, rather than relying on RU-vid and the settings here. These videos are larger in file size allowing me to zoom into the video footage for the really close-ups, but still maintaining the details. Unfortunately, RU-vid doesn't give me that option, plus with a slow broadband facility, I am not able to upload a larger size video, which I would love to do. I honesty appreciate your comment, it always puts ideas into my mind on how to get around certain LIVE filming issues. Paul 🎨
@Heather Best..Hi from Michigan.😊 I understand how you feel about listening to someone while they’re teaching. It sometimes bothers me because I want to start painting right away and not be bothered about their life and so on.. Paul is different though, his stories about how the birds are chirping & taking a walk with Jo seems to bring calmness to me. There are so many videos where people are chatting away about nothing really. Paul is a remarkable storyteller just like my Grandad from Scotland was. It brings a sense of calmness to me. He’s a great teacher & to be able to watch a video of this length is so very rare nowadays. I hope you had fun painting this project. I’m just now starting mine and with a learning process of being more patient, I know it will turn out well. Fingers crossed😊 Happy painting to you Heather. Blessings ~J~
Greetings from Victoria, B.C., Canada. Always love your videos and this one is very timely as I want to attempt to paint my kitty, Lucy, and the photography is exactly the colouration of her eyes and fur.
I just love this tutorial Paul, it is absolutely stunning! I can't wait to get started. It just so happens that this cat's eye looks exactly the same as my own beloved and beautiful cat, Piper. Perhaps, just a tad more green to the iris and it will be perfect! Thanks ever so much for sharing your masterful gift with us and being such a wonderful teacher.
That's my biggest issue too. I have seen myself doubting and tutting 2 minutes into a piece... Sometimes we can be too judgy and have too much expectation of ourselves
OH Hello Mister Paul Eye's Cat ! Very great and gorgius animals ! I would have to know if your longest tutorials in pdf are traducted too in french langage, because I am french. A complete lesson in english is quite difficult for me...I would like to understand you to the best I can to be the most exact is possible in my paints.
Hi SDS, sadly they are not translated into anything other than English. One thing I did try one is to us the Google Docs online that translated a PDF for me, may be worth a try, but I obviously can't say for sure. Paul :-)
@@TheDevonArtist it's ok Paul, I've traducted 6 paintings in French from your site devonartist and this vidéo too with another traductor ..But I have been allowed to translate all of this because it was no comprehensible at all ..15 days, it was long , but now I can try to paint and do it ! . I am Karine
I'm practicing cats eyes, nose and fur....like a cat is looking through a small hole. I get too fast when adding my color, and tend to work it too much. Thanks for the video, it helps me tremendously. Practice, practice, practice.
You have said it spot on, I know it's one of those things we always say, practice, practice, practice.......yawwn.....but as you say this is the key to getting things right. But also the main thing is to enjoy what you do. I very often sit with a smile on my face whilst painting, so it's a good job no one sees me otherwise they will wonder why I'm smiling! LOL Paul 🎨
Hi Melanie, don't worry, it's playing with those painting and practising with them that counts. Not forgetting the most important part of it all, enjoying the process! Thank you very much for following my video here. Paul 🎨
