Well, I feel like an absolute beginner. Seriously, I’ve been painting walls for as long as I can remember (daddy’s girl liked to help out) and I have learned more in this video than in 40 years of DIY-ing. Thank you for the tips! Strangely, they seem logical when you go over them, but yet it’s never occurred to me that I should do things that way. Thank you for making life easier and lovelier

Once one realizes the value of the information that this man conveys, there is no reason to watch any other how-to videos. Unless you want smoke and mirrors accompanied by false instruction. Spencer's videos should have hundreds of thousands of views and his channel a million subscribers. Goes to show the power of false information. It runs deeper than we can begin to imagine.

Hello, Spencer. Do you stick to the dilutions recommended by the manufacturer? Or in the case of plasterboard, do you apply more dilution? Isn't the cut-out better if it's with more diluted paint? Thank you for the excellent videos on your channel. Best regards from Portugal Celso

Manufacturer says it’s meant for fine finishes with no brush strokes so like trim, panels, crown mounding, etc

Thank you for taking the time to post this video, I got more out of this than years of learning from my mistakes. One question I dont think was addressed. If one was going to paint trim, should that be done before ceilings and walls? If so how long before you can apply tape to trim? Thank you again.

Spencer, thank you for the wonderful attention to detail. This tutorial has helped me tremendously, as has a lot of your content. With respect to laying caulking over trim, I am confused as to whether this would be done during first or second coat of painting surrounding wall? And if this is to be done during the first coat, what is then to be done when applying coat 2? I.e., would I re-tape trim again just for protection while covering the wall, but without repeating the process and reapplying more caulk?

Excellent question! Do it in the first coat. Sometimes it shrinks, very rarely though, if it shrinks, apply the second time and put it on thin and there would be no need for tape on the second go around but, you will only need to do it on the first coat, generally speaking. Hi Spencer, great videos, I'm getting ready to paint our upstairs game room. I just had a couple of questions. First, how long do you wait between applying the first and second coats? I've seen people recommend anywhere from 1-2 hours or even the next day. Second, my ceiling is not a typical 90 degree edge, it comes off at about a 45 degree angle. Do you have any tips or recommendations on this type of ceiling or is it the same technique as a regular ceiling? Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!

I’d say if that is new construction they probably only sanded the compound then sprayed it with a dead flat contractor grade paint and just bankrolled,that’s what almost all contractors do for new construction probably with an off white color which hide imperfections to the inexperienced eye of a perspective and highly excited to buy customer they rely on those emotions of the buyer knowing they only look at the big picture and not the small details of a paint job. You take the tape a soon you painting or you let it dry

Right away. If it dries, use a knife to cut it off at the edge.

I watched awhile and very quickly recognized you have good skill sets, but no painter is perfect. I would have commented on you using cheap tape on painted surface and then costly blue marrying rosin paper seams, patching holes wait a 5 in one, no straining of the finish paint. Way to dramatic for me , I was getting a Bob Ross vibe...You were caulk happy but did nothing about the crown moulding pulling away from the ceiling/walls ?
