I painted my own house this year (1200 square feet) and let me tell you it was a beyotch. I bought a $30 oscillating multi-tool though with a scraping attachment and that made all the difference in the world in scraping off the old peeling paint. Power washing was a complete waste of time...don't know why they even recommend it. Also sanded it with the multi-tool. Ended up taking about 3 weeks but probably saved over $2000.
I'm a painter and I would of painted the trim first then mask it off to creat a nice perfect line 😁. And you make it look really easy without showing how much time you actually need to spend on the prep...
Got to agree with these guys . I would never use a quick dry outside though nor would I use that caulking . Heck it don’t hold up inside much less with the rain and sun . Heat and cold . It will crack out for Sure . To many people Skimp on the caulk but their is a reason that tube is 2-4 dollars and other are 8 dollars . When I started I was the same way . I’ve got tons of repeat customers and I notice the difference immediately on the jobs I used cheaper caulk compared to using a good elastomeric caulking that will stretch for days .

As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.
Mr build it just some friendly advice. I'm sure you know this by now but if you or anyone doesn't know, the dap 20 min fast dry caulk has zero stretch. It will 100% crack. We learned that the hard way. Use any other caulk except the dap 20 min fast dry caulk.
Ah, the old “paint & primer in one”. Honestly, probably one of the most successful marketing slogans ever. Overall result looks good. Prep work makes any paint job look better. Good job showing some prep.
Aside from beginning steps, I choose to spray the trim first. That way when I apply the body all I have to do is face off the trim with 2020 tape and shoot the body. Pull it off and done, perfect paint job. If cracked paint is deep like that it should be filled with vinyl and sanded before primed and painted to create a polished finish. Also never paint fine interior millwork, cabinetry, hardwood doors, etc unless you really know what you're doing.
Depending on the size of your house, how many buddies are helping you out, and how much damage the paint on the wall has taken, it can take anywhere from 1 week to many months, depending on your situation. Prepping can take 1-8 days, depending on the damage of the paint. Actual painting can take 1-5 days. Remember not to cheap out on exterior paint, the Sun, Rain, Etc etc is your greatest enemy.
Did you paint the brick? If so how? We are in the process of painting our house as well a side at a time since we don’t own a sprayer and it’s been work you did awesome and that seemed quick! Good job
1.Pressure wash the brick 2.Roll the face of the brick with just 1 coat of exterior paint and primer 3.Brush/Cut the mortar and touch up anything missed from the first coat of rolling (If it has already been painted. I would suggest sanding and then pressure washing)

I just did my house. The prep work sanding, scraping, recaulking around doors and windows, and then taping and plastic over windows... that is the hardest part. Spraying is a dream after lol.... well as long as your sprayer isn’t acting up. I just bought a grayco and was having issues that I still haven’t figured out

So I have chipping and non chipping paint on the exterior of my house. Do you recommend power washing the non chipping paint as well as the chipping paint?
Nah, it's engineered wood. A composite of some type. Great exterior but it can break and has to be painted in regular cycles or it gets weak. When it's taken care of, it's beautiful and will last a long time. The busted bottoms of the planks closest to the ground he referred to replacing, was likely caused by the lawn mower running into them.

What did you do with the brick? It looks like it went from brown to white. Did you just run some Behr paint over it or did you treat it with something else?
That's what big box stores dont tell the average homeowner, my friend. Bare substrate should ALWAYS be primed before applying your final coat. Home Depot aka Behr are the worst with this. They want the homeowner to believe they can do less work and achieve similar results. In reality, if the house is already painted and it's not failing, one coat will always do the trick if you know what you're doing.
