I love Nurgle in all it’s incarnations. Really enjoyed this one. I actually really liked it right after you applied the plaguebearer flesh, and would’ve skipped the green glaze. I liked the more yellow skin tone
Just spent 8 hours in my hobby shed. Did a bit of work on a spaceship model and then decided to do some mini painting while paint dried. Ended up spending the rest of the day working on 2 minis. After a few hours I suddenly realised that I had discovered the joys of futzing! I was really enjoying myself! The minis are probably no better than mediocre on the grand scheme of things but even unfinished they are way better than I thought I could achieve with so little experience. Thanks for all the insights and encouragement 😀👍
I litteraly finished my 1500 points army of Nurgle yesterday, now i want to unpaint and repaint them all ! Great video as always, i think a comparison between different textures from different brands would make a great video, i personally feel a bit lost considering the amount of brands which produces various textures
Well that's just gross -- which is the highest praise a Nurgle miniature could receive! I especially liked how you applied the Blood for the Blood God and Nurgle's Rot on this one. Small, controlled applications and taking advantage of their naturally glossy finish. Good stuff!
I do like painting me some Nurgle (not so much the giving GW my money aspect, which is why I buy third party), and this was a nice little tutorial that gave me some really good ideas for future reference!
Definitely some lovely stuff in here! I'll be referencing this as I return to my Death Guard. I'd love to see how you approach a poxwalker; not only are they delightful models, but I'm interested in how you'd approach getting good color into what is otherwise a pale fleshed zombie rather than the radioactive green here (which looks great, to be clear). Mine came out fairly pink, which I've decided I'm okay with since it contrasts the green armor, but I'd be interested to see how you tackle it!
That one you will probably have to wait on, the poxwalkers really bother me. This is likely the closest, but I have done several videos on sick and rotting flesh. :)
Nice to see you've finally seen the stinky light! Honestly as a massive Nurgle fan, I always enjoy seeing other people's takes on it, and this one is lovely. Maggotkin army when? :P
Gona give this a shot as I really like the finished product. Typically I don’t paint like this I’m more of a speed painter but since nurgle is forgiving it may be a good option. Thanks for the tutorial!
Finally, after year's of drooling over Vince's Slaanesh, get to see his take on my favorite ruinous God! Outstanding as always, gives me ideas as I finish my Daemons and mortals for AoS.
Excellent video. I've finally started my Nurgle army and I am just finishing building 60 plague bearers so this came at just the right time. I have have seen a few nice paint schemes for nurgle so need to try a few and see what I like, this is one to try out. Really good tips with the red base colour and violet shading. I would really like to see a review on the liquid pigments. I want to add some texture for rust and verdigris but don't really know where to start with it (for a beginner painter).
I tried at least 10 different color schemes for Nurgle demons, but the most eye catching were the bright green + purple ones. So I agree very much with you. I painted the pimples and wounds almost the same like you, and the rusty swords in a similar way. I wish you put put this video before so I would have copied you instead of experimenting...but it was a fun experiment 😉
Pushing Buttons is fun people! Comment for the algorythm and bring this man some reach! Literally 80% of my hobby Progress is founded on These Videos ! Cheers bud
I just thought to leave a comment which I normally do not do but wanted to let you know that I watched this video many times and have taken a lot away from it. I play a game called One Page Rules and use the faction Plague Daemons. I have now painted a 2000pt army using the techniques and want to say thank you. I look forward to any future videos and wish you well.
I really appreciate that! Lots of videos in the playlist and I am always happy to help with any questions. COngratulations on the army - awesome accompishment for sure.
Thank you for doing this demonstration Vince. I just love the aesthetic of Nurgle miniatures - joyous pestilence. I have returned to the hobby after a six year break and have a couple of Nurgle minis waiting for me to dive in. I like that you've painted the model as an individual - as opposed to looking the same as any other plaguebearer. I'm hoping to progress to the point where I can paint display minis and so I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your colour choices and thought processes. Side question: Do you thin the contrast paints before applying them? If so, what with?
I'm planning to make something similar with my next unit of poxwalkers. Sameish greens but with a very pale skin on a dark base. But much less colors to finish them fast. :)
I asked you to paint Nurgle to show off painting something new, that you may not be into as much, and the process you go through to figure out a new style a while back. A lot of painters got skills but get stuck in a rut of their comfort style. Space Marines then Chaos Marines then IG then AoS Stormcast and so on. I always appreciate painters challenging themselves on videos and the value in trying something new. Good video.
😳I'm sitting here at my painting desk holding the one and only Nurgle miniatuur I have wondering how to paint it since I've never painted one before. You really know how to time this man!!!!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 it's a bit creepy😁
Me: want to send a nurgle mini for advice in the october submission Vince: *answer* Me: ... but... but... my submission... damn you Vince and your mind reading power!
@Vince I'm 48 soon and I feel old. Like this only matters because I feel like my time left to play games and hobby is limited so maybe I should stop buying. I've started sundrop speed painting CMON boxes for heck's sake. Conscious of the time we can never get back, that is finite, and how much I may have left. I don't know if this is a question or a video topic, really. I did paint something like 56 board game minis in various monochrome color schemes while watching your show today, though, and I'm quite happy with those. Now I can PLAY those games! Sincerely, Not Depressed I Promise
No, I mean it's always tough, but my honest answer is a miniature painted is never time wasted. The act itself is valuable and always worth it. Every day is a good day when you paint. :)
@@VinceVenturella Yeah you know, I've been super stressed with school, work, kids, covid, and after painting I was driving to school and felt this light, feeling. Oh yeah, happiness. I realized I hadn't done anything for myself since the semester started. So I agree, it's always time well spent even though I didn't break much new ground in my speed paint (I did make some Masmorra minis look like chewing gum to match the game, that's something). Thanks!
you mention in the video emphasizing radioactivity, if one wanted to incorporate a florescent paint into the scheme, at what point would you do it, would in get mixed sparingly into the ork flesh midtone, or saved for the highlights?
Absolutely love the idea of the undercoat and the way the green looks over the red and they look amazing when done.. I have a question though. I kind of like the more yellow plague bearers flesh color with the fleshy highlights. Would you still start with the red undercoat for that process or would you start at purple?
Hey Vince, do you have any HC vids on blending small areas? Plenty of vids online showing how to do it on big areas, but what about the fiddly bits? Would love to see your approach! Keep up the amazing work brother!
Nothing specific, I have a video on achieving smooth blends, but the advantage to small areas is they are easier as your eyes tend to resolve the blend easier on small spaces. Here is the video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k84npvSDpsI.html
Are there any comparable paints to the Warcolours spearstaff brown and bilious green, as well as the green stuff dark and orange rusts? I can't seem to find them in stock in the US, and though I love getting international mail, I'm itching to paint my Nurgle army for sigmar. If ordering from Warcolours how many 20ml bottles do you think I should get to do a a Vanguard Maggotkin and a few start collecting Deamons of Nurgle boxes? This is my first go at mini painting in any capacity and I'm pretty excited by your take on it. I like the brightness of the Nurgle box art, but it doesn't seem to glow enough and looks too pastel. All the other takes either seemed too dark or like an army of Slimers. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
I think the Pro Acryl Lines and AK 3rd gen will both have colors that are pretty close. They don't need to be exact, but anything in this area will be fine.
this is doing no good for me trying to avoid building a plaguebearer heavy Legion of the first prince army. absolutely stunning results as always Vince!
Nice! If you don't have access to the warcolours, looking at that green/yellow. Would " Valejjo 70.954 Yellow Green or 72.033 Livery Green" be a good option instead? :)
I believe you have covered this in a very early video but I'm curious how you move your miniatures from your painting base to the final base. Also, do you use the standard bases that come with your miniatures for painting and have a separate [final] set or do you reuse a bunch simply for painting? BTW - Nurgles look so much fun! Back in the days I loved painting the very few snotlings that came with the Goblins in Blood Bowl (I believe). Lots of opportunity for unconventional fun!
It's always hard to judge when filming, because you have to break up a lot of your work with the actions of filming things, but maybe like an hour or so. Pretty fast.
You undershaded with red to complimentary colour green. If yellow was my main colour I'd to the same with purple (presumably). But if my main colour was purple would I undershade with yellow? My 'shade' might end up brighter than my purple! Use ochre or a burnt orange instead?
When the purple goes over the yellow, it will turn a sort of brown which can be an excellent natural shade color. In my exploring colors video for purple. :)
A little side question you have painted minis with airbrush in a few of your tutorials. If you where to paints the skin of the various Daugther´s of Khaine models plus the snake half of the various Melusai what size needle would you use? Also how much just as a rule of thumb would you think the paint?
I would have said instead of Britney you should have used Alice Cooper instead he did make a song called Poison. but after listening to it, its better suited to Slaanesh than Nurgle :P.
So I have full videos on this, but a wash is meant to basically cover a model and flow into the recesses, it's main point is to create depth. A glaze is simply a thin paint that is highly transparent and applied in a very controlled fashion. Here is a video to help - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TbCtUYFwFWQ.html
Always wanted to do a high contrast, yellow-green bright toxic waste looking scheme. Always painted with desaturated greens for my nurgle schemes. How would I go about doing a matching scheme to this, but for plague marines for example? Because it’s mainly armour not skin would I need to approach it differently?
Hi there Vince! I'm really admiring your brushwork here, and the Plaguebearer came out looking just sick, lovely & awesome! However, my leper ears almost fell off when I heard you state that "red is the complementary color to green" around 8:18 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jsTQprFnusA.html) Now isn't red actually complementary color to cyan? And green to magenta? As can be seen and witnessed all the time for example on our led screens, favorite hobby magazines on print, and the afterimages appearing in our own thricromat eyes.
Depends on the color wheel, the reality of it is that it works because when you add red paint to green paint, you get a good combination that feels a natural color.
@@VinceVenturella Thanks for the answer! Yeah, mixing red & green paint is definitely ok thing to do and sure looks good here. Can you elaborate how you've come to the decision to use such a wheel where the red & green are complementary (and then kind of justify paint choices with that)?
