How to paint Space Marines: Black Templars - Grimdark Style 

Just in time. I ordered my templars box yesterday. I will be using this technique.

Great job. Most of the other grimdark tutorials on RU-vid show regular Marines without any bits and pieces like the tabard, additional shields, golden details. This makes your tutorial easier and better to understand how to finish a complete army.

After years I finally found how I want to make my templars. My new BT primaris army is getting this. Thanks for this awesome tutorial

Your tutorials are amazing! Im planning a grey knights army painted in this style, im not a big fan of their shiny bling so streaking grime to the rescue!

Another great video, was wondering when you started with the all black but it looks great. Have to get me some of those sisters of battle transfers. I do like the OSL look, although as my army is Soul drinkers I'm not sure what colour to use, purple is an odd colour. Definitely a base on the power weapons like this on the sword like this to ad then some lightning tracks built up to white like this on the sword like this to add interest, then some lightning tracks built up to white. One thing I'd have possibly added would have been some tiny red glints on the barbed wire facing the sword to make it look darker and more larger bits of metal but to also tone it down and blend it in little (the view on 16:11).

Question on the European Mud: Could you mix the mud with the brown oil paint for a more dark brown colour?

I really like how the sword OSL turned out. But the description was a bit brief. Did you airbrush the red ink over the model? Did you dillute the ink? I am struggling with this kind of effect.

So amazing! Just ordered all the paints to do this for my Black Templar’s. Question though- What areas besides the chain and skeleton did you apply the black oil wash?

When you varnish the model before applying the grime, do you varnish the metallics? Doesn’t it dull them? It doesn’t seem like it did in the video, do you just avoid varnishing the metal parts?
