Thank you 🙏 It’s so hard to get noticed on RU-vid these days. I’d really appreciate it if you could help share my videos and help others find my channel. Then I’ll be able to invest more time in making more videos 🤛
Those Dark Star paints are beautiful. Sadly, they can be hard to come by in some parts of the world. Having said that, there are many amazing metallics out there. GW's Leadbelcher and Iron Hands Steel are of course the classics, but I've had a lot of good experiences with Dark Steel from Vallejo's Mecha Color range. I gotta second the notion about washes. So many react with metallics in truly fascinating ways. A personal favourite of mine being Druchii Violet. That stuff does amazing things to metal and is perfect for demonic or alien looking models as it gives the metals an otherworldly look. Like it looks like steel, but it's something totally different.
You are hands down the best source of practical miniature painting advice on RU-vid. No fluff, unlike a lot of other channels, yet effective visuals and clear instructions. You've made miniature painting so much less daunting for me. Wishing you the best!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It’s heartwarming to hear my videos have had such a positive effect. It’s comments like this which make the work that goes into these videos worthwhile. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching Yes, there is a video coming soon to show the steps to paint the glow effect In fact, it'll show a choice of glow colour - Red, Green and Blue Hit that subscribe button so you dont miss it
I don't know if you will see this, but do you think Vallejo Metal Color Chrome is good for dry brushing? Or perhaps another Vallejo metal color like White Aluminium or Silver? Alternatively, maybe none of these are suitable for dry brushing, and I should consider a different brand. (I plan to edge highlight, but not on every model-only the important ones-so I would like a color suitable for both edge highlighting and dry brushing)
You can dry brush with any acrylic paint. So, the short answer is yes you can both edge highlight and drybrush highlight with Vallejo metal color chrome. The only thing of note really, is Vallejo chrome is pre-thinned for airbrushing so it is thinner than most metallic paints. Which just means you’ll need to remove that extra moisture from your brush on a texture palette or paper towel before drybrushing with it. Hope that helps 👍
I'm going to have to try making a Payne's Grey wash to see if the blue tones come up in the result, rather than the monochrome from a black wash like Nuln Oil.
I have just binged several of your videos. I personally think your the best miniature painting teacher I’ve come across. Much better than all of the bigger channels I’ve come across. Very detailed explanations and very methodical and clear instructions. Thank you, please keep doing what your doing, your a credit to this community.
Thank you 🙏 So glad to hear you’re enjoying the channel and finding the videos useful. I try and make videos I would liked to have had when I started. So, stay tuned, as I have LOADS more projects planned 👍
Now i just need a video for steel with added colors :D Im planning to paint my necrons in a purple steel color but don't really know how to work it out so that it looks good.
You don't mind using your expensive brushes with metallics? I been really struggling with gold trying to do the shoulder lines vallejo polished gold I just cannot get a neat line and I want to use my best brushes to do this but i'm scared to do because the synthetic brush i used for mettalics is pretty much destroyed and i only painted with it a couple models lol. Do you take any special steps to care for expensive brushes you use with metallics? You wash them thoroughly right away or do you have special expensive brushes specifically for metallic paint? Thanks
Hi :o) Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes, absolutely. You'll be pleased to hear I am already planning to have a video on the topic of blending and transitions. So, stay tuned for that
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides That's really great to hear! Thank you, I'm looking forward to it. I am currently painting my 4th mini ever, as I've started just very recently and I can't get enough of it. Also, of all videos I've found, yours were the most useful and helpful. And unrelated - you make the smiley face the same way I do, not many people do :o)
Metal Color are excellent paints, no doubt. I particularly like the Chrome from that range, as I think it’s be best metallic edge highlight being so bright and shiny it’ll work as a highlight to any metallic paint. The reason why I like Darkstar for basing and layering is because of the metallic fleck they have in them and the finish they produce. It’s a personal thing but I just think the size of the fleck is perfect for the 28mm scale and it’s so densely packed with fleck it makes them produce a crazy shiny finish. If you already have the metal color paints, I’m not saying bin them immediately. I’m just saying when you’re ready to buy a new pot perhaps consider trying something new and see which you prefer 🙂
Hullo, appreciate all the content. especially enjoy seeing a quick and simple template that reflects good concepts. Any thoughts on a video that talks on how to move from simple techniques to more complex ones? I am still doing big washes and drybrushes and would love to learn how to move from those to hand shading and hand highlighting. Thanks again for the thorough explanations and good examples!
I've always wondered why my metallics didn't look quite as good. I see that it's about delicacy as well as other colours! Why I didn't think before, I dunno, but I love your calming tone. Great stuff. Keep making them!
Thanks man Seasoned painters will have already got their “go to” steel recipe but I’m hoping this will help beginner painters and maybe even encourage some veterans to try Darkstar 😉
That's cool I did say in the video, every mini painter needs a quick and simple recipe for steel, cos it's needed so often. This is just mine, if you have found yours then awesome :)
Which country are you in? I'm not familar with dark aluminum specifically but if it's a medium gun metal colour as in the video, then yes, it should work just fine
@@BrushstrokePaintingGuides I live in Thailand, So can I use Vallejo gunmetal grey, AK gunmetal or Citadel iron warrior instead of a Darkstar graphite?
