Greetings from the Adirondacks! Just discovered your videos today by accident but I think it was destiny! I love to paint landscapes in acrylics and trees seem to give me the hardest time. Trees are my favorite subjects though and I can’t get enough of them when hiking and photograph them constantly to study their shapes later. When I visit art exhibits and galleries, landscapes especially with trees are magnetic eye candy that draws my attention. Years ago I excitedly showed a series of small collage quilts to an artist friend and she told me they were nice and then asked me what the purpose was. I may have misunderstood her query, but that single question has remained embedded in my mind. To me, the purpose was evident in the joy of creating something fun with colors, patterned fabrics and whimsy. They remain packed away in a box, unfinished. I stopped quilting. However that comment crops in my mind up every time I paint which has been a lifelong passion of mine and I am not young. Your comments are encouraging to viewers. Thank you. I look forward to seeing more videos featuring your stunning work!

Loving all the information in this video! I learned I’m starting out with way too thick of paint. It is so much easier to find your values with a thin wash. When you said to not to go after exact colors, but to go after approximate values, something clicked in my head and I understood what I need to do when blocking in my paintings. It’s all about the thin wash! 😀

Hello Jason, I'm French and I love your videos! What do you use for your first coat, mineral spirits, turpentine or others? and what medium next, Liquin or others? Thank you, and see you soon on Patreon, Jacques
@JasonTako
@JasonTako 8 месяцев назад
Hi Jacques! Greetings from the U.S.A. and thanks for watching! When I'm plein air painting I just use mineral spirits with my oil paint. Since the painting is done alla prima and I tend to paint pretty thin en plein air, I don't use any mediums, just paint and mineral spirits. That said, in the studio when touching up dry paintings I will use Galkyd Gel, to prevent sinking in. I rarely have sinking-in issues with my plein air paintings since they are done in one session. I hope that helps!

Thoroughly enjoyed it! Again, your painting looks more real than the photo. I find that so amazing. When you talk about sketching trees outside in detail. Should I be using colored pencils? Or are you speaking more about the overall shape of the tree and limbs/branches and not as much about the leaves? Sorry, hope my question makes sense. I'm a beginner 😊

Thanks Lynette! I mean just use regular pencils and learn the shapes of the trees. Color can come later.

What strikes me most is that the center of your pallette is one color and its minor variations. I set up my entire pallette ahead of time for the entire range. Is there a right way and wrong way?

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you set up your entire palette ahead of time for the entire range. Are you trying to pre-mix every color in your scene?
@sttarch5150
@sttarch5150 2 года назад
@@JasonTako Yes, but not every variation. I suppose that by the end of the painting, I pretty much do have all the colors on the palette. It gets a bit crowded, but it sure is easy if I need to go back and do additional work or make Corrections. I have three pallets in my freezer!
