In this video Jon looks at a simple, yet really effective way to paint Urban Digital Camouflage on a Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine Scout Sergeant in black armour. This could be an ideal scheme for a Black Templar Scout squad. You can get this model at elementgames.co.uk/games-work...

I was looking to paint an urban camo look for my Ork Kommandos and out of all the camouflage tutorials I saw (digital or not) this was the best one that actually explained the process rather than just said, 'paint some lines here and there' Thank you!

Very cool video as always. My favourite camo pattern is the one from former german National Volks Armee NVA, the stripes tarn, ein strich kein Strich in german. It isn't very effective, but I kinda like it.

This and your tau drone camo video were great help. Aiming to start camo-ing out some mechs from Battletech and both videos are simple to follow with great results.

Very interesting and enjoyable, as always. I read an article in 'Military Modelling' a few years ago that suggested highlighting black with flesh rather than white, and I find it works rather well as long as the flesh colour isn't too 'peachy'. I use Army Painter's 'Corpse Pale' (which, I'm sorry to say, matches my own skin tone perfectly). I won't drone on about camo patterns (as much as I might want to), suffice to say that as you know I do like the Mil-Tacs ones, especially their old 'Arid and Urban' one, which I think has now been superseded. The US army had a couple of trial patterns in the 80's that weren't adopted that have a nice Sci-Fi look to them, I don't know what they were called. Quite easy to paint, too!.

Highlighting black with a pale skin tone? Now that is interesting. What sort of context did they suggest using that?

@@FlyingRavenStudios I actually just went to try and find the article!. I moved house a while ago and I'm still in the process of finding stuff, so I'll let you know if I locate it. The miniature was, if I recall correctly, a large scale (120mm? Verlinden?) Knight Hospitalier dressed almost entirely in black, and the author (Mike Blank?) just used flesh in the tonal range instead of white (so running from black through to a warm mid-to light grey). It makes the black look less 'dead', and the black flesh mixture works very well for tyres and suchlike as well. I paint a lot of 15mils, and for large areas of black I just use a mid-tone black/flesh grey followed by a wash of black ink. While I was rootling around in the back room, I had a look for that pattern in the 'Brassey's' camo book, where they just list it as 'Trial All Seasons/ All Terrain'.

@@parazatico9030 ahhh I see! Yes I guess that would give a "warmer" dark grey opposed to the "colder" blue / grey I used today. Yeah I like that! Yes if you do dig out the article as and when, I would be very interested to take a look thanks. Also just looked up that camo pattern you mentioned. I see what you mean

@@FlyingRavenStudios Found it!. It's from October 1992. I was right about the author, but the miniature is a 90mm Andrea. It's only a one page article so I can easily scan it, but you are more than welcome to the magazine itself if you can suggest some means of me sending it to you.
