Boy you sound like me. I just joined a few weeks ago and ship out the 27 of December. Just turned 28 four days ago. So my advice, go for it. My life was going nowhere fast. How to survive Basic Training? Here ya go, it ain't hard... Simply show up and give it at least 30% your best effort and you'll be fine. From what I hear nowadays may only require you to give 25%. A better title and approach would be "How to make the best of basic training". BCT is what you make of it. It's annoying, exciting, at times challenging physically, mentally, spiritually, and over before you know it. It's an experience, not a life threatening challenge people need to "survive" 🙄. It's usually difficult for the little boys and girls who are used to sitting at home in front of their Playstation, Xbox and PC suckling at their parents financial support. Shit ain't hard boys and girls. Challenging at times at best.

animal care specialist has to be a really small and rare MOS to get. cool that you got it. good luck. hope right now you've been practicing on things like ruck marching and heavy runs. Also the new "combat" PT test. And even things like having to stand still in formation for hours at a time.
@user-tf7cf5gd8l
@user-tf7cf5gd8l 3 года назад
Do you get to choose your mos because i want to be 11b Infantryman?
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 3 года назад
@@user-tf7cf5gd8l You do get to choose your MOS in the Army, just as long as that MOS is available at the moment and you qualify (high enough ASVAB score and other things) for it, which for the MOS you want -swamp ass- infantry, should not be a problem. More on that later in my comment. However, what no one tells you is that (in addition to what I said about your MOS having to be available and you must qualify for it), is the fact that there is no guarantee how much you'll actually be doing that MOS when you get to your unit. Lots of soldiers get stuck out in the motor pool all the time instead of doing their MOS simply because there's nothing else for them to do and their MOS is not essential unless they actually get deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan or they go to the field. And no disrespect to you, but that brings us to 11b infantryman. You probably want this MOS because you think you're going to be kicking some ass, kicking in doors, blowing shit up and killing people. I hope you realize that the only time you'll be doing any of that shit is if we are actually at war and you are actually deployed. We still have deployments and to Iraq/Afghanistan but we haven't been in any kind of heavy war in well over a decade now. I hope you realize that. In an actual war, infantry is probably a great MOS to have. When it's peacetime, infantry is one of the worst, most boring and (literally) shittiest MOS. It's pretty much an extention of basic training for lower enlisted, which means lower enlisted get treated more like children compared to other MOS. Everyso often you'll be sitting in the woods (which even that is to give you something to do. Our wars for decades now have been in the middle eastern desert and not the jungles of Vietnam, so sitting in the woods doing wedge formations is no training for the desert) for weeks without cleaning your ass. The rest of the time you have even less to do, so for a lower enlisted that not only means staying out in the motor pool lifting tents all day, but it also means pushing lawn mowers and cleaning out toilets. This is after you've been PT'ed to death in the mornings. Then your weekends are spent drinking yourself to poisoning. Infantry is one of the lowest MOS during peacetime. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t-rlxlPhDmY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KUKYY57NFuQ.html (1:20 of ) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qi8HJnzKr2o.html On the bright, infantry is one of the larger MOS's which means it is almost if not always available. And because infantry is one of the lowest MOS's you can get, it requires the lowest ASVAB score. You don't need to be either book smart or street smart in order to sit in the woods for a few weeks without a shower, then spend the rest of your time pushing a lawn mower. That's why so many veterans, especially Army and Marines, who struggle with finding jobs on the outside, and are in things like "Hire Heroes" just happen to have been in combat MOS and especially infantry since all infantry really does is teach you how to be homeless with no real life translatable skills for a halfway decent job to even provide for yourself much less for a family when you do leave the military (which everyone has to do at some point). Don't let these facts deter you from wanting to be infantry though. But you might want to look at these facts to help you rethink what you want. It doesn't hurt to think with your head.

Do you have any recommendations on any other MOS because that sounds shitty asf

@@user-tf7cf5gd8l I can say (aside from considering joining the air force or the navy) do something like 27 Delta (paralegal) or 88 K (watercraft operator) or 17 C (cyber) or 68 P radiology specialist or 68 E dental specialist since 1) those are MOS that you would actually spend quite a decent amount of time actually doing... instead of just training for once in a while and then doing menial tasks the rest of the time since the real purpose of your MOS is whenever we actually go to war which seems to only happen about every quarter of a century. 2) those are MOS that actually translate to halfway decent jobs when you do leave the military 3) people in those MOS seem to not be as discontent and report as much nonsense (like mass punishments where all the lower enlisted have to pay for one person getting a DUI or something else that you'd think you would no longer happen when you graduated from basic training and AIT. Combat MOS seem to be a lot closer to the basic training mentality), but if you're a young, dumb and full of cum guy, you might find the idea of these MOS to be boring since so many of them do require you to sit at a desk (which, after you actually join, is likely going to sound better than menial tasks like pulling up weeds and painting rocks in the heat or lifting tents in the motor pool while its raining). Plus you would have to score higher on the ASVAB since these jobs are higher skilled. And then these jobs might be smaller in size, which means that even if you do qualify for them, they are not as commonly available as the lower MOS's like infantry and cook are. You might want to look at 68 Whiskey combat medic. You'll still be in a MOS that you won't actually get to do your job often (obviously the only time you'll be treating wounded troops on the battlefield for real is when we are actually on the battlefield), which means you'll be spending quite a bit of time in the motor pool cleaning out connexes. You'll still only be doing training for it (in the woods of course, which doesn't really mean much if anything in Iraq/Afghanistan desert if you ever did go), etc. but at least (aside from the motor pool) you won't be doing as many menial tasks as people in brigade combat teams would do (though you would have to spend time mopping and sweeping the company area ). You'll still get to spend sometime outdoors without as much of the nonsense infantry soldiers have to go through. And, really importantly, you'll be in a translatable job. (btw, you'll hear people claim that infantry, somehow, translates to law enforcement. ANY MOS in the military can help you look good for law enforcement. I know a guy who got out the Army as a *cook* and he is now a police officer and just the fact he was in the military helped him out. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody who sits down at a desk in the Air Force can get a job in law enforcement) You can be something like an emergency medical technician if you do leave the military. So maybe check out 68W.
