The only smooth*ish transition in this video is at 00:01 when I take the eyebox with my hand and throw it on the background. So there is hope for smooth transitions. That's proof that those camera can do it. PS , this video is filmed with my xh2s fw 7.0 . If you zoom in on me ( Static subject on a chair ) My face is out of focus at every slight movement back and forth when I talk. The video before this "First look X-M5" was with fw 1. Perfect eye focus throughout the whole video. Link to the song : suno.com/song/5ad903ab-e86d-470e-8aef-561dd4a63d8a
It is hilarious that Fujirumors shills are saying you are acting like a child while they are calling people liars, disregard every little criticism from other users of the site and blatantly lie about AF and else. You give them less than they deserve Edvard.
@@andyp5693 I wasn't talking about Patrick but wouldn't be surprised if he is affiliated with Fuji. People on that site are way worse, attacking everyone who criticizes Fuji like rabid dogs.
Patrick from fujirumors is an immature hack who can't admit that he's never taken a single photograph in his life. The only thing he knows is how to browse the film sim menu. And how each option magically changes colors on the lcd screen. WOW!
These reviewers like jordan from petapixel, pal2tech, three blind elephant man etc are given cameras because THEY NEVER EVER TEST THEM!! They write reviews based off feelings but offer nothing in the way of real tests. Take photos. Take videos. And ANALYSE AND INSPECT THE RESULTS!!!
There are so many favorite parts to this video. The song, the stepping sound effects, the sarcasm, and the white box illusion. All that aside, I’m asking myself if Fujifilm can / will actually fix this?
This is bad ass my friend. I did Fujifilm review back in 2018 and people said the AF isnt wrong, I just didnt know how to use the camera lol. Glad to see the trouble in 2024
In X-H2s, AF was excellent until FW 3.0 was released. With the new predictive algorithm, the AF performed pretty bad. Fuji tried to solve it for more than one year. Well, we are still here
Nothing changed in the foundation of af system. Yes they've added Subject detection but the actual AF system is the same , even worse now in some cases.
@@edvard2942 Yes, I agree. The problem back in 2018 was too much fanboys making system worse. Im glad you made this video. Maybe I should follow and also bring back fuji in my channel. Only do autofocus lol😂🤦♂️
kinda devilish to compare Fuji AF to "ancient" Canon AF lmao. but tbh Canon's AF was superb back in the day, which makes it sadder that current Fuji flagships cant even compete in terms of AF accuracy.
So I followed your invitation to test. Not going to do it with all lenses, but what I already had to hand X-t5 and 23 1.4 LM, which allows close focussing so I can go quite far to near. Key settings you didn't mention, or I missed. I tested with both AF mode wide/tracking and also area, box in centre only. AF-C settings: tracking at 1, AF speed at -2 for smoother transitions. Face detect on with auto eye select. First test with me moving with camera, AF mode Area keeping the box in the middle, moving around the room shifting from items from far to near, and everything in between. It behaves as I would expect. Moving the AF speed to 5 makes a difference but would be too abrupt for my usual purposes. AF locks on at a consistent speed. One criticism is that even at the slow AF speed, the final lock on is quick, so it smoothly transitions until the very last part which fast. Some might say jerky, but it's really only that last focus snap. If you move nice and smoothly to not make the viewer feel sick like I do, the focus moves and adjusts smoothly. Move to quick and you need to pause a second while focus catches up. Going from near to far, definitely more of a jerk than I'd like. Why I prefer slow pans. But AF does lock and is accurate. Second test, camera mounted on a tripod with me moving from far to near and near to far. Roughly 5m to the minimum focus distance. Appearing and disappearing suddenly into the middle of frame thanks to a door frame tested also. This time with AF wide/tracking and face detect. Same AF-C settings as before, so rather slower than fast to ensure smoother transitions. I found it tracked my face very well all the way up to minimum focus distance. With me suddenly appearing from behind a door, head first no body I was actually positively surprised. No I wasn't leaping around like a demented kangaroo on LSD, but just normal movements - if moving back and forward and jumping out of doorways can be considered normal. I guess this is why I'm happily using this as a webcam day in day out wide open (wider lens, though). For video when I'm behind the camera I usually use touch to track, and would use different AF-C tracking settings depending on the situation. Obviously hard to test on myself. Any improvements welcome but on the X-t5 I am getting nothing anywhere close to what you demonstrate. I would be claiming a defective unit if I had results like you are showing. I'm no pro but if a friend asked me to video their wedding tomorrow, I wouldn't be having any cold sweats about missing the aisle walk with the X-t5.
If you want more comedy then go to Fuji rumours and read comments of all those people living in denial. They applaud tests like this jumping "monkey" in front of the camera, lens set at f5.6 and stating that now they really see an improvement in AF although hardly anything is really visible in those test. Please keep posting those videos Edvard until Fuji really listens and fixes their AF. People on the Fuji rumour are going crazy with the comments about your videos, they just can't stand the truth😂
Thanks, bud. I almost ended up with X-H2 , but I've changed my mind after your videos and got Panasonic Lumix S5 Mark II instead. Will do some AF tests to see how perfoms, but should be fine.
@@edvard2942 If you didn't make videos about Fuji AF bs, they would still knowingly hide it from the fans, experts, but because of you, they already promised new updates.
As a Fuji fangirl I don't mind you holding their feet to the fire. I'm thankful that it's not a hardware problem and is solvable with a firmware fix eventually. I think they just tried to get too fancy with autofocus -- probably tried some new "efficient" way to do things that reduced processor usage and battery consumption -- but overlooked some of the drawbacks. I use Fujis for wedding shoots and have never had an issue personally but can definitely see this problem if you're shooting sports or music videos or something.
@Jada_Maru What body lens combination and settings used for Wedding. I am curious. I did consider Fuji for wedding years ago but was out of budget that time
@@amitkrupal1234 The X-T4 is my primary camera and the X-E4 is my quick shooting camera. As for lenses, what I use is different than what most people would suggest so I don't recommend that you use it as a guide. For example, my workhorse lens is the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. It lacks an aperture ring but this has never bothered me and I'm fine controlling it with the front dial of the camera. Most people would tell you to go with the new Fuji 16-55. Beyond that, I use the Fuji 10-24 for wide shots and the Fuji 56mm 1.2 for portraits. Those three lenses cover everything you would ever need for a wedding from my experience. All that said, I capture the best moments between people with the X-E4 with the 18mm F2 pancake.
You are correct to rost fujfilm.. XH2s is a flaghip camera from fujifilm, most expensive apsc camera to be offered. On specs its amazing everything is good but the firmware which they made is the worst!
I still think the first test should you just be standing there. Perfectly still. Keep the camera on a tripod and set up the interval timer shooting with AFC and face detect. There was no people in the background, just my family in the frame. Wasn't even using wide open. I got like 50% of photos out of focus. I've been with Fuji since 2015, so I'm used to deleting lots of photos, but it's annoying to have to rely on single point AF to take decent photos. Should have kept my old X-T10 if I wanted to take photos like that.
great that you recorded such videos as this, I don't trust fuji when they release software 7.0 - what they are doing is a joke. I have a whole system for FujiX and I have to change it because I make videos
Fujifilm manupulate their used camera market. No other manufacturer does this. We already know their "demand" is artificial (purposefully release too few models). We also know that they use dodgy third party hackers to harass people listing the latest fuji gear on ebay for lower prices!
@@haloboy456the latest is fine. They don't touch the AF algorithm anymore (a.k.a they're lazy AF). Any AF related firmware beyond the firmware 1 in xh2s is just downgrade in AF performance
exactly, that what i have been saying since april. Only time I see consistent af tracking is in face detection on firmware 1. But on the newest firmwares seems like PDAF is missing. They messed up something big time
OK OK! I've had my sights set on buying an a6700 since your first video, why do I keep watching you? And yes, how do I sell my old fuji now, you've ruined the whole second hand camera market :)
Love this channel! It's my discovery of 2024. Could you guys please help me with suggestions for making a smooth transition? I currently have an X-T3 and X-S20 with six dedicated X-mount lenses, flashes, cages, small screw-in filters, etc. Both cameras have not only struggled with autofocus, but lately, both(!) have been shutting off after several minutes at room temperature (around 20-23°C) while recording in 4K 30fps (I never use higher frame rates for longer videos). I've also been experiencing frequent card writing errors across various brands (SanDisk, Lexar, Kingston, Sony Tough M), with cards ranging from 64GB to 256GB. Also X-S20 doesn't have record time limits but has HUGE overheating issues. X-T3 is better with that. Just short breaks every 30 min. In terms of reliability X-T3 is a bit more trustworthy. Any suggestions for a reliable hybrid system (60% video, 40% photo)? I'm mostly considering: 1. Lumix S5II/S5IIX - likely the best video camera at this price point, with excellent stabilization. However, many RU-vidrs say it's a niche camera, making it hard to resell. Also, while the autofocus isn't as good as Sony's, some people say it's better than Nikon's. 2. Sony A7C II or saving a bit more for the Sony ZV-E1 (but is it good for photos?). 3. Something from Nikon. 4. Canon EOS R6 Mark II (or something similar from Canon; the R5C would be perfect but it's out of reach). 5. I'm even considering the Blackmagic 6K, but it lacks autofocus, though the image quality is superior. Also it's only video camera so for stills probably I'll stay with X-T3
Excellent. For the stills test, you could give the camera a chance by using focus priority instead of release priority. It may never take a picture though...
@@edvard2942 Same. At concerts (I'm on stage with the band and constantly moving myself) I sometimes have to wait seconds for the camera to take a shot with focus priority. Whoever recommends this setting has no experience shooting action scenes. To you fanboys: birds are not action
@@tycjanjakubczyk i have an s5iix and and xh2. the s5iix has reliable AF-C for talking heads, 75% for stills of a running puppy. Im not a fan of the Panasonic colors except for skin tones. I havent explored the LUT options. If I sell the s5iix it will be for a Canon r6ii
you need to call out the fujirumors admin patrick, he is the reason fujfiilm is so behind he keeps making excuses for them his latest post on the comments he says your video is wrong lol
Patrick is deep in fanboy delusion. Someone needs to give him panasonic with real time LUT so Fuji has no more advantage, later introduce him with addicting AF from CaNiSony
For a moment, I thought the background was also a challenging one with such high contrast. And then you filled the frame with your face. And waited…lol. I do wonder if it would have the same troubles with a less busy background.
Stills taken with burst mode, with priority to Release or Focus makes little difference, in my experience with an X-T3 if the subject is moving towards or away from the camera Fuji AF-C can't cope. My ancient Nikon D700 works far better in this regard.
8:47 ooofff that Canon AF obliterates any Fujifilm camera AF for sure. Great video (minus the AI stuff, I don't like it but I get your point lol). Keep up the good work. I don't expect the new firmware to do miracles at this point but at least they should have it working more consitently.
What lens was used and what were the C-AF settings? Also, what body? What firmware? What memory cards? Is boost turned on? Focus release setting? All of these things have an effect on how AF works. Without knowing them, it is a waste of time.
Edvard has made a couple videos trying different firmware, etc. His tests are better than most RU-vidrs Its easier to fool someone than to convince them theyve been fooled
Sadly I have to agree to all you daid.. except the stills Test, I would do it in focus-priority, because if nothing is is focus, I don't need the picture.. Again sadly Fuji will confirm focus alot without having it... Hope the next Firmware gets them back on the track...
I do not agree, release priority is meant to be used with subject detection modes and pre-af, which means the camera should always be searching and focusing on the subject you've selected or the AF box you control with the joystick. Release mode is a must to get reliable hit rate tests.
from personal experience when shooting concerts: Focus priority also means the camera WON'T take shots at all for seconds in certain situations, even if the focus is more than good enough for a moving subject. I had many instances where I kept pressing the shutter fully and NOTHING was taken.. moments gone without any photos. I rather have a few slightly out of focus shots than no shots in these situations. And also from personal experience: focus priority is worthless when the taken shots are out of focus anyway in fast situations
@@JakeChambersOy I never had that problem until the x-t5.. I'll try with shutter prio ond that thing.. all my other cameras on focus prio work just fine, much less lost pictures with focus prio even in darler events... but yeah, hope they find a way to fix it...
Pocas empresas se toman hoy en dia su trabajo en serie,da igual el articulo de consumo que compres, siempre hay fallos y pegas,se rien del consumidor a la cara.
Bro i have xh2s i aslo face auto focus jumping issues but not that much i tested my self in f 1.4 my camera doing good i don't know the reason but its tracking my eye perfectly allmost some time loses but in your video it's look so horrible
@edvard2942 what do you know anything? The first firmware that shipped with the h2s was on par with a z8. It was near perfect. It got worse with each release. Version 3 to version 6 being the worst. Version 7 was a huge improvement, but no where near as good as version 1. All the problems started with the red box and AI crap added in.
Hahaha good vid i believed that you added the pre order in the description … i’m not an owner nor fan of any camera brand but i think you did enough videos in fujifilm trash autofocus in the newest update ↘️ or newest cameras .. i know that you are very disappointed of fujifilm i hope they wake up and fix there autofocus…
Nope, never said that, I use fujifilm since 2019 , I am acutally planning to buy one more. Maybe you think is ok for reviewers tp misslead you that it has good af but it actually hasnt ?
