How to Photograph Events and Make Money Doing It 

I just read some comments. I cannot believe how rude some people are. Here's someone teaching some good info and even giving what he would charge, which I've yet to hear anyone do. I love when someone is confident and can teach me a thing or two. A lot of things I didn't understand but it's because I'm more of a newbie and lacking big time in the technical end of things. I can't even figure out Lightroom or Photoshop. Sheesh! Anyway, I really enjoyed Jeff Cable's presentation and I watched the whole thing even though I was looking for something else before going to bed. Thanks, Jeff!

This man has taught me more in an hour than 6 months at a photography academy.

Oh my gosh, yes! Shooting a session can be very hard on the body! I get into all kinds of positions trying to get the shot I want. I probably look pretty hilarious and twisted sometimes. And a lot of times I come home pretty tired and a little sore. But it's SOOO worth it when you upload and start going through all the photos. I'm thankful for the physical activity. I'm so busy that I'll take what I can get. Ha!

Simply Awesome training. I have just learned that so many things I already do, is WORTH IT. My wife and the family almost always fight with me saying I shoot a lot and I edit a lot. Worth it. I also learned , from your video, that I should edit when and IF they order the prints. I learned a lot. Thank you for enlightening me and and spreading the art and secrets of Photography. Taking pictures is a good place to start! Once you have a nice collection of photos and x dollars of money, buy an entry level camera(or more if you have the money for it). Proceed to make money. The qualities of a photograph (great composition, decisive moment, ... etc) are much more important than what kind of camera is used to capture it. One of the greatest photos in my photography career to this date was shot when I was in 7th grade on a minolta P&S of a fisherman fishing from a lake in TW!

This was a very informative video!! I will look into photo mechanic. Currently I use Lightroom and Photoshoot. I didn't quite realize how important compact flash card and card reader speed is until this video. Just lots and lots of good tips. Thank you!

I'm sure beginners love this video. It's full of information (great information).... on how to be a photographer. He starts out talking about being a business person but says "I'll get to that". After watching an hour of video, there's not been much info on the business side or making money at the craft. It's all been information (in my opinion) of things you should already know, how to be a photographer, and how to shoot an event. *edit jump to 1:15:00 or so. The last 20min is more the marketing / money making. Great video all together.

Great presentation. I've photographed hundreds of events in over 50 countries. Many of the concepts he presents I learned by trial and error. I still learned some new things through his presentation. Thank you!

when watching a lot of videos, I'm bored after the first minute. On this video I hit 32 minutes before even checking how much I had watched. I was so captivated which made it really inspiring and fun to listen to, I also learnt so much. Thanks so much for the upload, glad you're doing so well. :D

I've been searching photographers tips for a couple of months, watching a few minutes of one, sometimes scrolling past your video, simply because it was a long one and I have a short attention span. I wish I had watched this before I had 14,000 images, alone, on one device, and I wish I had learned these marketing tips. Great info. I'm going to search for more. I actually downloaded the B&H app for android recently. I thought I'd tell you I watched this whole video and am keeping it for reference. Thank you, Jeff Cable.

The photographer who shot my wedding put a folder for all the 'prints' (though we didn't order our prints from him, he referenced us to MPix). He included the rest of the images in another folder. It was worth it, we found a few images in the folder later that we liked and asked him to post process them.

This is an excellent presentation. I’m going to go searching for what’s changed in the last 10 years.

This is better than that Jared Polin guy in his "Telling it like it is to Photography Students" video. This, by contrast, is very informative. That other guy's video is namely a narrative of himself, the photos he shot and the people he has met. It really doesn't shine any light on the business of photography as this video does. Well done.

Thank you very much, I watched it 2 times and on 3th I wrote down all your advices. I am actualy at the beginning of my photography hobby/carrier. Want to do events/ portraits/ . At the moment I do not have website, but I will figure out something. Biggest problem is to find photos in my galery I am praud of, because I still think that they are not worth to share, or put on web. The Sigma 85 1.4 he mentions dam well should be an amazing lens for the money at almost a thousand bucks ! The canon 85 1.8 ranks right up there with it for about a third of the price. Also: I am beginning to realize that to be a pro photographer is not as much about skill (while yes a certain amount is a must ) but it's more about confidence and just presenting yourself to people as a pro. I see a lot of "pros" who's work is good, sure; but not beyond what amateurs can do a lot of the time.

I think this might be the best B&H video - and that's really saying something.

this is a great video and you do bring up a point that I have seen which is very few do anything with the people and audience etc... I learned the hard way one thing... At the church I go to there was a young man about 20 years of age that passed from cancer.... everyone was looking for photos of him...fortunately I had some from various events... However not a lot but had some that was used during the funeral and wake... At that time I try to make sure I get some of everyone at the events then put them to the side just in case of something like the man who passed...I also shoot photojournalist style telling a story....Again great video....Gary HGR Photography of Arizona est 1970

Did not see any negative comments but I am not going to look for them cause so far the first 15 mins into the video, I am really enjoying this presentation. I too would like to maximize and possibly make it a full time job since right now I am doing a job I do not like that much and photo events during the weekends.

I didn't really like the pictures which he has shown, all seemed to me like snapshots, not photographs. But he seems to really figured out the business part of it and I realized that it's so much work that it's not really for me, I'll stay a amateur who shoots for himself instead.

This was excellent, I agree with everything Jeff says. Listened to every minute.

I've seen better pictures taken on a phone on instagram than a newbie with a DSLR. Don't let youre camera be a barrier for creativity. One of my best photos 6 years into photography was taken with a 6 megapixel casio pointshoot.

Jeff is amazing. He was interesting and the video was full of such useful information. I was wanting more even though it was an hour and 40 minutes. It was also great that he validated many of the things and techniques that I do when I shoot and gave me insights to things that I will be doing going forward. Like others have said...THANK YOU Jeff.
