Basic scale model photography is what we are going to talk about in this video. I am definitely not a professional photographer but I am hoping the few photography tips I have for you will help. I think one of the most important things for basic scale model photography is your lighting. Cameras and lenses are great for scale model photography but come at a high price. At the beginning of scale model photography, you can pretty much use your cellphone for great pictures too. As, I get better at scale model photography know that I will pass on any new knowledge to you in a future video.
The products used in this video for scale model photography are no longer on amazon but if you do a quick Google search you will be able to find the 8.5 feet Emart stands and the Supon L122T LED light panels used.

You can use a white card below the camera shot angled so it reflects up into the lower areas of the subject (this would have made the shield in the video brighter and would have helped with showing detail in the lower area of the invisible man model.) Use a diffusion material between the lights and the subject to soften glare and shadows. Also make sure your white balance is set correctly for accurate color rendition (camera's auto white balance sets the camera by the amount of gray in the frame so often won't give true colors unless the white balance is set using a neutral gray card to set the white balance.) Higher F stop numbers will give you more control of depth of field - what is in focus (using aperture priority mode is better for product photography than program or automatic mode.)

Towards the end you point out the exposure and aperture, if you make the aperture smaller - a bigger "f" number, then more if the model will come into focus, the exposure time may go up to compensate but on a still model it's not a problem. Apologies if you already do this but i hope it helps someone. Best wishes.

Nice setup Kenny, Hard to beat a good Canon camera. A work around for a remote is there should be a setting to set a delay on the shutter button. Usually 2, 6, 10 seconds. You can hit the button and the camera will snap the pic whatever you set the delay to. No worry of bumps and blurs that way.

You're welcome Jim. This is very basic just for a clean background. Once the studio is set up I will do a more independent video.

Good tutorial Kenny. I wish my LED lights had the adjustments yours do, for brightness and temperature. I shoot through a soft box, tabletop photo booth, so my light is diffused. I also like to shoot my models in aperture priority mode, because I get more control for the lighting and depth of field. Now I just need a macro lens! LOL. Also, as TrekWorks was saying, if your DSLR has a delayed self timer, that works great to minimize camera shake when taking your photos.

Thanks Marc. I definitely want to take classes so I can fully use the camera. One nice thing about the LED Panels I don't have to defuse them at all. They came with gels to change the colors but no clue what happened to them. Hopefully it helps out the guys for their submissions to the site :)
