This is exactly what I'm covering in my next video! At least starting to since there's a lot to cover here :) Thanks for the recommendation and for watching
These are good tips . Apply to the uk too. It’s exactly what I did back in the day . Everything started and ended at Edale in the Peak District . The only typical goof I made was too much gear . That’s been scaled down now . Found my gear weight sweet spot .
That's awesome to hear! I'm definitely guilty of packing too much gear at the beginning too. It takes some time to learn we really just need the necessities and we'll be fine :) Thank you for watching!
Your videos are well done. I've watched a couple, i want to say to you and others, beware of the sun, cover/shield your face. I'm a fair skinned old guy now. The first 1/2 of my life i lived in Colorado. I'd apply sunscreen usually stopping at about my eyebrows. Well three decades and a few years later, i went to a dermatologist for some issues on my face. The spots he was interested in were small. Three years ago i had a mohs procedure just above my eyebrow. About i year ago i had a precancerous lesion frozen off above my other eyebrow. It doesn't mean others will get cancer of course. Sun damage is cumulative. ATB
Thank you for sharing this, Edward! Such good advice and so, so important for people that spend lots of time outdoors. As someone who burns easily, I worry about this constantly! SPF and protective clothing are our best friends :) Appreciate you watching and chiming in
I did a day hike yesterday (first one of the year we were scoping out a place to do some camping later this year) only 3km and it was a loop so didnt think itd be super awful... it was over 1000 elevation before the halfway point. It was fun but the straight up incline definitely made me say I'm dying a few times haha. Both my dogs are so tired from going up and down such a steep incline.
That's a ton of elevation in that distance! I never used to pay attention to the elevation gain when picking out a hike and I paid for it a few times 😂 You and the dogs got in a great workout!
I started following this channel a month or two ago and these are just really great videos. Love the Utah parks series. YOU are the reason hubby and I did the Fiery Furnace trail, which I had never heard of before your video. It was the highlight of our trip and there were some points we got lost where I was like “I remember this from April”! So, thanks for these!
Katy, that completely made my day! What did you think of Fiery Furnace? Isn't it the coolest? 😄 Thank you so much for your support! I'm excited to wrap up my Utah series with Bryce Canyon and Zion soon -- absolutely incredible parks!
@@AprilAdventuring my favorite part was getting lost and finding the hidden arches… although frankly that whole hike was incredible. I remember watching you being nervous and going in alone… but then at the end you said if you could do it then we could! And I had to try. Also it was my first permitted hike, which I would have never tried to get if it wasn’t for you. Totally worth the “concert ticket” vibe. Hubby and I have only done day hikes but have been talking about starting to do backpacking. Watching your videos are super inspiring!
@@anfgirlkaty That's awesome! Fiery Furnace is still one of my favorite hikes and it really inspired me to look into more permitted experiences. I'll have to report back if I find anything cool like that again! It sounds like backpacking would be a great next adventure for you and your husband to tackle. Having each other for support and company will make it even more fun! Can't wait to hear what you get up to next!
Just finished my first solo overnight trip, I picked a trail that I've done with my group and I noticed how I felt a sense of calm and preparedness that I didn't think I would feel.
I love that! It's amazing what a sense of familiarity will do for you, especially when trying something new. So excited for you on finishing your first overnight trip! Do you have plans for upcoming trips or are you going to bask in the sense of accomplishment first? 😄
Appreciate you, Matthias! I would have benefited from hearing these tips when I was just starting out, so now I'm more than happy to share the knowledge gained from my mistakes 😂 Take care and have a lovely weekend, my friend!
@AprilAdventuring I can imagine that. You are already an outdoor profi. You have so much to share. Lot's of amazing places are already waiting for you. And through you to us. Have a lovely weekend with good ideas. Much love, Matthias
Superb tips, very well done! Would add a few things for consideration: 1) get some initial training in FIRST AID / knowing when to evacuate (and how quickly an evacuation should be) - NOLS does a 2 day course with REI that is a great place to start. 2) “Grey Bearded Green Beret” does a really fantastic job of walking through needs and accounting for those and how to build gear load out based upon those things. He does in a no-nonsense way. Lots of “survival” channels out there….give one of his videos 4 minutes tops and you’ll see what I mean
Ooh awesome additions! I'll have to do a future video on safety, first aid, and emergency procedures! There's so much to cover there and a lot of that is overlooked. The outdoors is great for recreation, but it can turn on you quick! Totally see what you mean about Grey Bearded Green Beret -- great videos. I definitely see a few I need to watch and learn from! Thanks for sharing! :)
I’ve always loved walking, but I haven’t yet tried a proper hike! Thank you for your tips. I’m definitely going to try out a proper backpacking trip one day 😊
Ooh I have a feeling you'll be going on a bunch soon though, especially as you start traveling around in your van! I'm excited to see all the places you go!
Oh my gosh, thank you for letting me know! I would have been left wondering why this random video of mine starting picking up views 🙈 Thank you for watching! Glad you found the tips helpful
These are amazing tips! I don't backpack but I've always thought it's something I'd like to try. So many of your tips make a lot of sense but are things I'd never think of. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the series.
Thank you, Roxanne! If you're ever in the LA area, I would love to take you! It's one of those hobbies where once you start, you'll want to go all the time. At least, I think you'd also be like that since you love the outdoors :D Thankful for your support always
Thanks so much! I wish I could have seen this before my first trip -- I held off on trying backpacking far too long for lack of confidence. Glad you found it helpful! :)
Thank you, Diego!! I really struggle with filming in this apartment, so that makes me so happy to hear :) We gotta work with what we got! Appreciate your support so much, friend
@@AprilAdventuring Anytime! ;) For my taste you could improve it with a tall plant to fill the big empty white wall behind your left shoulder. A bit of green is nice, break up the warm tones and gives a balance to the frame.
@@diegosvan You seriously read my mind! I was just thinking this weekend how I can set up an area with some plants for filming like I had in a previous apartment. That terrible blank wall was my projector wall before I got a TV 😂 This room needs some sprucing up for sure haha!
Oh my gosh. This is the most underrated advice ever! I used to go too small in my shoes, but too big is just as bad! 😫 Here's hoping your comment saves someone else from needing to learn the hard way too 😂
