I like the video. Recoating your wheels makes a lot of sense. It should save a lot of money. Epoxy is toxic. It's best not to get it on your skin. Also, it's best not to inhale it. You should use gloves such as latex gloves, and use the epoxy in a well ventilated area only. If you are exposed to too much epoxy, you can, over time, develop what can become a very serious allergy. I'm sure RU-vid has some videos regarding epoxy safety.
There is no way i would waste the time to epoxy silicon carbide to a wheel. Diamond last 100 times longer. I bought 50 carats of 100 grit for about 10.00. It takes just as long to do diamond resurfacing as it does silicon carbide.
@@opalearth6850 thank you for making this video three years ago! Have you tried mixing the grit into the epoxy before applying it to the wheel? This video is just as important today. Hi Dallas! I had a video for getting started, the basics of cutting an opal cabochon, but I pulled it because I look awful!! I will repost it for you, if you are interested. It doesn't go into cutting to standard color bar though. I haven't created that video yet.
Additionally, it kind of depends on the opal rough that you got from Lightning Ridge. Some LR has straight color bar, but much of it is irregular, wavy, etc. I have a class at the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts in Opal Basics, Lightning Ridge, and Opal Carving. But due to COVID, the school has been closed 2020 and 2021. I'm not sure about my own teaching schedule for 2022, but all of the opal teachers at William Holland are exceptional!
