I just found you guys this evening and watched 5 of your last 7 videos. Im liking what I see and am subscribing now. I've recently gotten interested in permaculture/food forest and anything I can pic up before putting sweat equity into the wrong places and having to start over the better I will be. Hopefully in a couple years I can be 20 - 40% self-sufficient. Fingers crossed. 😎

Can’t find bones in the meat at the grocery store! It’s ridiculous! Even the chicken thighs are now boneless skinless. We have become so lazy to want the bones out of thigh meat and so disconnected with our food that bones and skin are “gross.” Billy, your response about the love pond was PERFECTION! 😂

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I've been using cardboard as a weed barrier/ moisture retention for years. My neighbors think I'm crazy, I say they're behind on the learning curve.

Built 5 brooder barrel for the 150 chicks I am picking up Tuesday. Got some help from a 12 year old neighbor. Very smart, hard worker. He home schools and helps me for 4 hours a couple days a week.

I wish I would have found this video last year. I planted over 40 trees last year and I like that cardboard around the base of the tree and then mulched over the top. I guess i can go back and do it this year.

Comfrey root, infused in oil and applied (Via a soaked cotton pad) to a new blood blister, barked shin, hammered nail, cow steps on your foot..anything that will bruise or swell, will prevent the bruise, remove the blood blister, reduce the swelling and ease the pain. BAM!

I like turtles. 😁🌱🐢 I finally learned about bone sauce as a deer repellent. They are the bane of my fruit trees. They use all my trees as rub stations. God bless you and your family.

I recently found out you can grow edible mushrooms in your garden that help improve the soil and feed your trees and garden crops. As we know the fungus transfers nutrients between trees and other plants.

Great stuff. in Texas, and other arid/semi-arid climates, we do need a much larger mulch ring as you said. It's wonderful how understanding the goal so often leads to proper application in permaculture. One thing you can do is age a compost pile uphill of small ponds that don't have fish in them to get some extra richness out of them - can grow and harvest algae in them as well if your area is warm enough.

Just found your channel and am glad I did. Great content. Thank you! I'm wondering if the bone sauce is effective against squirrels. Boy howdy do we have a lot of squirrels! If not, any suggestions? We're new to this property and this region and we are starting our first food forest/permaculture gardens. Needless to say, we are in a huge learning curve. I appreciated all your tips and wisdom. Dang Billy you had me Googling Syntropic lol I was like whoa whoa whoa slow down a minute I'm still trying to kick my recliner up lol . Good Video , I was wondering if you have ever got into Grafting ? I have a few peach trees that give Almonds, Plums , Nectarine and Apricots that I grafted . Its a good way for people who are limited in space to get a variety of fruit in their garden .

To add to tree sources, many states have a nursery where you can order local ecotypes, it's usually under the Dept of natural resources

I really love Mark Shepherd's S.T.U.N. method. Planting from trrees is a long game but epigenetics help them out.. Bonus if they are planted within the dripline of a mature specimen.

Trees are awesome at cranking out food. Didn't get any peaches last year. Found out the hard way that they need enough chill hours in the winter. Will be getting peaches this year though and added a bunch of new trees as well.

Yiyr planting instru tons were really great. I am in the frozen high desert, so I'm not sure when they'll tell me to plant. Weeks of teens and 20s°, a few 60°s, now back to 30°/40s. Blessings, julie

Very informative video, have 3 relatively new trees to "finish" planting. Had a dog that after being scolded went and chewed off, at the graft, a very expensive tricolor beech tree. Thankfully, he was neutered before I got him. Thank you for the video.

If you've never seen it before, look up videos on the "Ellen White Method" for planting trees. It's really interesting and a very good method for tree planting. I'm not sure if it's for all types of trees, but it's definitely used for planting fruit trees. There's charts/diagrams that show the layers of the hole that you dig for the tree (what she puts in each layer and why). They say you get amazing results from this method of planting fruit trees. (There's a layer of rocks/stones in the hole, among other layers).

Planting fruit is a huge step in food security. I have a few apple and Italian plum trees. I just got a bare root grape to plant. It's a seedless, pink grape called Flame. Tag says good for making raisins.

You missed the 2nd most important, pruning, in the digging at the nursery at digging, lots of roots got left behind, so to reduce stress, it NEEDS pruning to thrive. Planted 1000s in commercial and it's a must.

Do you plant the daffodils, garlic and comfrey around the nitrogen-fixers, or just the fruit trees? I want more comfrey too, but need to save up a while. Stretching SSI is one of my greatest challenges. (Especially for the times when it’s 5 weeks until the next payment.) I like that you pray for blessings on each tree.

I like to fill a 5gal bucket full of forest floor material. I dig a 20 dollar hole for a 5 dollar plant. Mix it in as I back fill. Gotta break up the clay soil here in S.E. Ohio.

I have been praying to God for help and I opened RU-vid and found your channel. I think you teach very well and I am so thankful I happened on to the knowledge you and your “honey” have for us. I appreciate it greatly. Thank you and thank you God. By the way, I didn’t catch the young lady’s real name. What is her name?

I may need some prayers for my sanity. There’s a twenty acre piece coming up available butting between the lower end of my ravine and the road, which has a south facing slope and MUCH better access than the driveway I had put in. The current owner is MONTHS behind on his payments to the realtor and years behind on his taxes, and he wants to move to Louisiana to watch his grandbabies grow up, so both he and the realtor are motivated. Yes, I have counted the costs and can afford it. I have also been strongly advised to consult with the folks at Fish and Game and at Forestry to get a plan for developing the property to put in a dam and a micro hydro plant which could power the neighborhood come SHTF. One of my contiguous neighbors is moving onto his property, and he is, among other things, an engineer. We met and had an introductory discussion today, but he is tickled almost witless with what I want to do, and is knowledgeable about how to do it. Dain’t yo’ dast NEVER try to tell me that He does not provide! My current thoughts are to live on the twenty acres and turn the hundred acres (and most of the twenty) into a permaculture food forest and wildlife preserve. If I understand aright, that would make my property taxes little more than a joke, because I would be homesteading while retired, and I am more than eligible for disability.
