Thanks for posting another video Sana! I have been following your channel to learn more about how to deal with my lilies. These are probably dumb questions but I'd like to make sure I know what you meant: In your video you say that they're supposed to be in the sun. Is that only in the spring when you're expecting them to bloom, or should they still be in full sun after you've planted them in fall? Do you still need to water the bulbs, even if it's freezing temps at night? I keep mine in pots too, so I always worry that any water left in the pot will freeze. I live in a cold desert, with hot temps in summer, and freezing in winter, and we don't get much rain.

Thanks so much for your kind words, really encouraging. 1.asiatic lilies will start producing shoots when the temperatures start to warm up in spring, so once u see green make sure they get the full sun. and regarding their placement in fall. Honestly it doesn’t matter, as the bulbs are still under soil. 2.sorry I completely forgot to include the watering part in my video, so water the pots only when the soil feels dry to touch, if u get snow and freezing temps , no need to water. just follow your instinct and make sure the soil is just moist and not wet. you can try wrapping your container in burlap if u worry about loosing them to freeze. i hope your lilies do well 👍🏻

I just started last year I planted one pack, and the pot is full did not realize it was Lilly’s till they grew more I had no idea that would multiply and I did not know I had to dig and divide. This year I got two more packs now ,have planted already. Do you have to divide after the first tear? I am going to go through your videos today thank you.🙏👍👏👏👏

I just started watching your videos and they are really helpful. I do not know if you have discussed how to plant or store those little tiny singular bulb bets I think you called them. When I dug my bulbs I had a lot of those but I'm not sure what to do with them now. I appreciate any help that you can give me

Thank you Sana for your channel. Your videos are great to watch and encourage me to take care of my plants more. Last year I got 1 asiatic lily pot and 1 calla lily pot. During fall, I trimmed off the top when the plants dried completely and kept them in my garage which is dark and warm (lots of sunlight there). When shall I take the pots out and start watering them for the bulbs to grow? I haven't checked under the soil if I have enough bulbs or not though. Shall I check?

You’re welcome Shubra. I am glad to now my videos have been helpful. aplogies for a late reply , you see sometimes the nitifications gets messed up. trimming them in fall is the right step, so regardeing keeping them in garage , you really need to make sure it doesn’t get too hot to dry the bulbs out. keep checking them for moisture, the soil must be just moist to toouch and not soggy wet. you can bring the pots out to a full sun or part sunny are when you see any growth starting to show up . I hope that helps.

Tip. When I prepare my Asiatic lily, I cut a chicken wire the size of the inside and place it on the soil. In that way, the squirrel cannot dig the bulbs.

That’s a great idea too. I am only worried about the shoots growing right under the wire and splitting. Although if we keep a close watch and redirect the stalks through the holes , it shall work perfectly.

thankyou 😊. asiatic lilies are very cold hardy (zone 4-9). and if u fall out of those zones may be u need to befriend your fridge 😁 jokes apart , try keeping them in a sheltered greenhouse , or some place outside ur house where it has roof so snow doesn’t sit directly in your container.

I was actually worried about saving the bulbs . But your demo has given me some confidence. Pl address one query of mine, that can I sow them again in the same year ,as per temperate climatic conditions ?

sow them in the same year as in, after they have bloomed ? yes if the ground is moist enough to keep them happy, as an easy rule to thumb i would say you are safe anywhere between -35c to 35c . thats how hardy they are !

Asiatic lilies are very great winter hardy bulbs, they can survive up to -40c. you can plant them now in october and leave them in your garden.

Yes , you should be able to plant them out . If you mulch them really good if u live in a cold climate . Or store them in fridge for few weeks if u live in warm climates Watch my part 5 of this for more details.

Sana I only cleared my bulb containers a week back in mid Nov after leaves were yellowing.. What should I do now? Replant or store bulbs as temp are colder now and they won't root in chill right? I have a mixture of oriental leaves, asiatic and cala lilies

you can plant them now its alright, I planted them just about two weeks ago, i was juggling with the idea to post or not, as I felt being repetetive. but this year I got a pretty huge harvest of bulbs😁 remember one rule , bulbs stay safer & better in ground rather than outside, and same applies for plants, anything still in nursery pots, get thm in ground even if its late.

Hi Mr Pereira. I am from Chennai and I am growing Asiatic lillies from bulbs, and got a wonderful huge bloom last week and it continues to spread happiness all around. It survived 2 cyclones and tolerated coastal weather well. Easy to grow if potting mix is right.

HI shaheena. asiatic lily bulbs can be planted anytime from fall to spring(sept-feb)if the place doesn’t get freezing temps. I believe its winter in India now. so you can go ahead and plant it 👍🏻

Hi Sana! First off, you are doing great job. It's so informative. Tnx for all the information. After watching your video yesterday i did dig my asiatic lilies today. Since i dont have too many pots so I have planted in a long planting pot where I have planted Tulip already. So my question here is, is that fine to plant lily with tulip? Now should I leave them on the open patio ? I havent watered after lily planted because i had already watered it after planting tulip yesterday. And yes I live in Stafford. Plz kindly answer me. Have a care!

Hi, thanks for your kind and encouraging words I really appreciate that. 1. yes you can absolutely plant them with other bulbs for a much dramatic summer container. 2. you can leave them on an open patio, as we don't get an absurd amount of snow here in the UK 🙈 Asiatic lilies are winter hardy and they can tolerate very low temps up to -40 so no worries for us. 3. water only when you feel the soil is too dry to touch, honestly we won't even need to water or care a lot for them as we have enough rain. Make sure to protect them from squirrels, both tulips and lilies. I hope that helps.😊

First time in my life I have planted bulbs and thats also over 1500 bulbs ( daffodils, tulip, hycinth, crocus, ranunculus, lilies, fresia, axia, Big hycinth , allium drumstick, allium purple sensation and some more which i dont remember the names now hahhaahaa... I m sooooooooooooooooooo excited. But i dunno how many of them gonna show up. So keeping my finger cross. And tnx you so much once again. Sending love and hugs!!!

water them just so the soil is moist to touch and not soggy. if you get a lot of rain / smow where you live, there's no need to even water. the water from snow and rain will be more than enough. I do not water mine during winter until spring at all, rain /snow is sufficient.

Okay so.. I bought one and i keep it on my balcony. The temperatures in winter drop occasionally under 0° Celsius. Do I have to put them in the fridge or just let the plant die naturally, cut off and then wait for spring?

0 degrees is absolutely fine , asiatic lilies are pretty winter hardy bulbs they can survive up to -38 degrees . so you can leave them outside and let your plants die back naturally and watch them come back in the spring

I don’t really water them in winter. I just water right after planting and leve it slone. the water from rain and snow is more than enough for the needed moisture over the winter. I hope that helps. the temperature haldly goes below -5 degrees celcius in winter where I live and the Asiatic lilies are pretty winter hardy and can tolerate up t -40 degrees. I dont cover them.

Sana can I plant asiatic bulbs and oriental bulbs in same container? I have bought them in individual pots where dwarf oriental likies have dropped leaves but asiatic ones still haven't, as they are under roofed shed.... Confused as to what yo do with them.. Leave all in their containers or check and replant? Pls advice... Also how to I share any pics I needed to for ur advice?

Hi jhansi. yes you can plant them in a same container , provided u have enough spacing.am sure the container will have its own show by mixing varieties. If the asiatic lilies still havn’t dropped leaves, u can leave them, keep checking and replant them in spring if you want to dig and divide etc. but it should be alright if u don't replant them, they will grow fine . to share any pictures please follow me on instagram u can find the link on my YT homepage banner

Do they bloom only once and that's it? First time I bought this plant had other lily's but this is different! It bloomed once and that was it the leaves are very good 🤔

yes sadly just once! their beauty is too good to be sad for the short blooming period. they come back every year in spring and bloom in summer

I live in the UK but I am from India. yes definitely there is a lot of options in terms of soil and feeds here, I never moved past regular soil in India😂. when I was growing my Asiatic lilies for the first time. I didn’t find all the information I needed in one place with all the timelines, did my own research, learned a lot and hence Sana's garden started 😊. thanks for all your nice words, stay safe.

Hi Sana. I live in Kerala. After blooming, flowers do not last long in my asiatic lilies. The petals start falling after 2-3 days one by one. Am I doing anything wrong. My soil is well draining in the pots and the plant is kept in partial sun. Can you help me?

Hi. the lily flowers should last 1-2 weeks normally. Lilies dropping the petals the surest signs that something is wrong with the lily's root system. The cause is probably either too much or too little moisture. ... Overly moist soil can cause the bulbs to rot and should be avoided. If the lily is too wet, do not water again until the soil is dry to the touch. In other case, if the plant you have is realy small, having only one two flowers, It may not last long, so nothing to worry if ur plant is small. Also, if its a store bought plant or a bulb that you purchased this season, the flowers will not last long. they are mostly forced bulbs. troubleshoot it with all the above things and keep it moist until it finishes its cycle and hope you have some luck next year.

I water them once after planting and leave them as they are. The water from the Rain and snow is more than enough where I live. If you feel like your plantings look dry... you could water them to keep them moist over winter.

anytime from autum/fall - spring is great for planting. if you live in colder place its great to get them in ground anytime before frost hits.
