Hello Julia . what a Gr8 lesson .. I would like to mention a couple of points that might help players in the long term .. a) Many players advise practicing while standing up as if you would at a live performance . ( altho I cannot do this myself due to spinal injury & I have to put a cushion on my left knee & try to play the best I can ) 2nd Some times for tonal reasons playing the notes on just one string can be a choice 3rd I have been told & warned by Medical professionals that over a long period of time having one leg crossed over another " May contribute to Circulation problems & also to muscle & spinal problems over a number of years .. Sadly it is too Late for me Boo Hoo LOl as I am 65 & past it But For a young person anticipating 40 or 50 years of playing Posture is almost as important as Caring for the persons Hearing . So sorry to be the Boring old person with the boring advice .. I love your approach making the lesson easy to understand & not to hard for a New player . But I really think if someone plans to stand or run around on stage Night after Night it is important to include for consideration the purely physical effects of playing . Although many Modern Bass instruments are lighter & when you are young & strong you just don't care But if you damage your Back you will not enjoy playing so much . We do not all have Roadies Lol Love you Peace & joy to all Stay safe . & Be cool.

I play bass arpeggios all the time. It's a great way to get extra notes with minimum effort. Once you memorise the fret positions for each chord interval you can add arpeggios without over thinking it. Definitely worth learning this technique 😉👍

Probably the best way to learn any instrument is by learning all the arpeggios of a major or minor scale. On sax for me it’s easy, on bass or guitar, really hard because the fretboard is madness. 😂 Nice lesson, thx. 👍🎸

Hello Julia stupidly pleased to get a Like for my comment .. Thank you makes me feel less like an old Boring muso .. so here is another tip I use Yoga blocks for my feet .. Classical Guitar position is guitar on left knee & foot raised on a foot stand ( if you are right handed ) Yoga blocks I found on a famous shopping site & are made of a very sturdy kind of dense foam ? But not only can they be used under smaller speakers as sound isolation but when I am playing I stand on a pair of quite thick blocks in my socks & I am able to keep my old bones moving . This is not recommended use & I am not to blame if you fall .. But I find so many uses for them as a disabled person .. for example if I need to kneel down & I can kneel on one & use the other to help me get back up . Obviously this would vary from one person to another & also on the style & size of yoga blocks used . Normally I keep all my plugs & switches at waist height & the last time a plug board fell down I had to crawl under the table to get it back up & when I turned over I just had to lie there & laugh .. for a while Not only could I not get up because my swivel chair on it's wheel which I had planned to use to climb back up kept sliding away from me But I could not call on my wife for help as I had placed my guitar just inside the studio door & she would not have been able to get in . Luckily I was able to use the Yoga blocks to get myself back up eventually . All my own fault In my younger days I used to run & jump to land sliding on my knees while playing the guitar ( like footballers after scoring a goal ) Pete Townsend from The Who used to do it .. I am looking forward to the summer when all this Euro / tunnel border stuff is more easy as with extra Vat & long waits on importation . Thomann has so many items at best prices .. Anyway Peace & love to all at Thomann team Stay safe Be cool This troubles will pass in time. bye

Hi Julia, i have a question: how can i use the 5 fingerings (or boxes) of arpeggios (major and minor triads is enough for now) togheter, like the 5 boxes of pentatonic scale? Do them exist? and if they do, can you do a lesson about them? it would be great for me!

Excellent lesson. Arpeggios are very important, they are a basic building block for literally anything you want to do on the bass for every style and genre. I travel to Germany and Vienna often for work. I bought a Harley Benton that I keep in my office in Leverkusen so I have something to play when I go to Europe and not have to deal with carrying a bass with me on the airlines. I will be in Vienna in a few weeks. What music shops are near Am Tabor that would be interesting to visit?

It took my stupid brain a while to realise that you meant the 4th finger and not the 4th note in the scale ... Your minor scale demo reminds me of the Victor Wooten session at Thomann when he explained that you can play ALL of the wrong notes and get away with it as long as you have the right FEEL. So yeah ... just funk it :)

Great info. Just one suggestion please please turn up your volume on the amp or the bass with out listening with earphones it's almost impossible to hear your bass. The Metrodome is even louder than your bass. The volume is so low on all your bass videos. Not trying to be rude only want to hear what you are playing thanks!!
