The writers of the superman genre just don't give a damn, which to be fair is precisely why I find it so unappealing, but it's always fun watching the fans desperately try to reconcile that.
@@reloadpsi Yeah that's not even a little true. If anything, its like any long running entertainment format. There is a lot of history to remember and depending on the decade in which a story is written editors are more or less helpful in maintaining consistency, plus you also run into editors that straight up hate current continuity and thus make changes, be they good or bad. Equally long running entertainment tends to have similar if not exactly the same problems.

The air-ship proficiency which is a actual thing in Eberron is actually in actually character for Scott due to the fact in most of the X-Men canon especially the comics Scott mentions that being a good pilot runs in the family as his father future leader of the Starjammers Christopher/Chris Summers aka Corsair is a decorated Veteran Fighter Pilot who was the youngest member of his Air Force squadron to be named a ACE.
Honestly, I think the Divine Soul option for the Sorcerer dip makes a lot of sense thematically since Cyclops winds up becoming a host of the Phoenix Force 👍🏻

@@baitposter I think the idea was that Disintegrate would push things apart and tear, but people seem to think and treat it like necrotic damage. It's a kind of oddity in the rules.

It's probably because it too impractical to make the range 1,200', but I kinda got excited when he dipped into sorcerer because I thought he was going that route. Eldritch sniper is probably my favorite caster build just for how stupid the range is. If I was playing this build at my table, I'd probably swap the tough feat for spell sniper.
I'd probably do the same and grab Spell Sniper. For the attack cantrip, I'd grab Fire Bolt, and instead take Acid Splash at Sorcerer 1 as a reference to the Fusion Beam ability Cyclops has in X-Men Legends 2
@@clothar23 it was more for the 'ignore cover' but I am sure it will come up somewhere. Save the sorcery point and just use quicken again instead of distant.
Yeah too bad about his horrifically bad AC and Intelligence saves though. Definitely the type you don't want anywhere near the actual fighting. Good thing he has hundreds of feet of range.

The new playtest races give a few new fun options. I kind of want to have a rabbitfolk barbarian who leaps around biting people's heads off like the Beast of Caerbannog (killer rabbit from Monty Python and the Holy Grail).

@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick Even sleeping with Emma, it just turned out that he was kind of unhappy in his previous relationship. With Emma, he's still a pretty nice dude that does the best he can with what he was given. Most of the X-Men's time in San Fran was literally just that. But no he and Wolverine need to be "enemies" and how dare Scott need to make some morally questionable decisions, because of course Xavier nor Wolverine never did that...oh wait.

i like the idea of Joe Keery as Cyclops but i would love to see him as the Human Torch myself i think him and tom holland would interact very well together
To boost the algorithm, and because Cyclops is my favorite superhero, I'm going to give some alternative ability score placements. This is mainly because I don't think Cyclops would have an 8 Intelligence. He's a master tactician and the X-Men's Batman. Charisma: 15, You're still an eldritch blasting warlock and an amazing leader. Intelligence: 14, As I said, he got big brain. Dexterity: 13, With medium armor, you'll want a +2 modifier, which you'll get after racial bonuses. Strength: 12, We need it for punches, I guess? Just eldritch blast and cast. Constitution: 10, You'll have enough HP by the end of this after racial bonuses, ability score increases, and the tough feat. Wisdom: 8, The kind of mistakes that are associated with bad wisdom are common with Cyclops. He'll get proficiency in Perception and Wisdom saves to help with this.

A 4th level spell slot doesn't convert to 6 sorcery points, that's how much it costs to make one with sorcery points. When you convert a spell slot into sorcery points, you get a number equal to the level of the spell slot. Also, Quicken Spell costs 2 sorcery points, not 1, so Metamagic Adept gives you one more use of it per day.
Unrelated fun fact: If you want to make the strongest possible Eldritch Blast, consequences be (Hoover) Dammed, all you need is two levels of Fighter, 3 levels of Sorcerer for Metamagic (Quickened Spell specifically), and at least 2 in Warlock to get the spell and 2 invocations. You can go the rest of the levels in Sorcerer or Warlock. More Sorcerer levels gets you more uses of Quickened Spell and higher level slots and spells, while more Warlock levels lets you get more invocations. The only ones you NEED though are Agonizing Blast (+Cha modifier to damage for each damage roll) and Eldritch Spear (300 foot range). Combine that with the Spell Sniper feat and you get a 600 foot blast, but you can also use Distant Spell Metamagic to make that 1200 foot (Can't use Quickened and Distant on the same cast though). That's up to 3 blasts a round if using Quickened, normal Action cast, and Action Surge.

If y'all want a lil more optimization for eldritch blast you can cast hex (requires concentration) and go UA undead warlock and hop to level 6 in that to add a damage die to each individual eldritch blast beam for a total (combining agonizing blast, hex, action surge, quickened spell, form of dread) of 24d10+12d6+60 necrotic damage. It does take some turns of set-up with form of dread and hex both requiring bonus actions.
If you wanna get extra crazy take the invocation that lets you see through magical darkness and go drow to cast darkness (unfortunately because it's concentration you won't be able to cast hex losing the 12d6 damage) but take elvish accuracy and each of your 12 blasts is rolling with triple advantage
You could add the Feat Spell Sniper. That with Eldritch blast is a lot of fun. With Eldritch Spear, Spell Sniper and Distant Spell MM you have a range of 1200 feet. Oh, and you ignore half and 3/4 cover.
Episode #273 of the Fire Emblem stats: Scott Summers. Cyclops is a leader that's usually pretty good at it despite what adaptations say so he's good at authority. His eye beams translate into skills in both reason and arrows (for sniping purposes). He's only bad at riding and flying due to the lethal collateral damage. He's the definition of a squishy wizard, with great magic but pretty squishy defenses.
Hm, I would get more Fighter levels instead of all the Sorcerer ones. First because we wouldn't use most of the new spells anyway and second because I'm a huge sucker for Battle Master. But, hey, thank you for bringing my favorite X-Man to the spotlight!!
In the event I ever do 5e again (moved on to, and prefer, Pathfinder 2e), I'll probably swipe a lot of this build. Shootin' beams and leadin' teams, indeed.
I'd love to see a boxing build. Ippo or balrog are both good characters for it but I think little mac is a very good choice. Could be interesting to do a punching build that avoids monks. If you really didnt want pure fighter you could dip a level or two into barbarian for Giga Mac
imagine if another caster used Haste on you....at the capstone level that 16d10 + 80 on the first turn, 12d10 + 60 on the next nine turns before Haste wears off....that's..i'm not even mad, just impressed
Fire and radiant damage aren't totally inaccurate. Scott can control the width, force, and HEAT of his beams. This means he can melt shit if he wants to.
Intensity not heat. I forget which comic it was but it’s specifically stated that there’s no heat because he’s actually opening small portals to another universe over his own ocular organs.

Okay, Continuing on trying to get caught up on your videos, Wow, I'm a month behind. Yikes. Race: Half-Elf Background: I guess soldier? I don't have too much experience with X-Men. Mostly the live action movies and in the movies Cyclops seemed pretty stoic for the most part. Stats - Str: 14: Like I say in Wisdom, Scott has seen a lot of battles so he'd be pretty physically fit. - Dex; 13: Scott isn't a powerhouse, he would be a well rounded fighter. - Con: 12: Take away the eye lasers and Scott is just a guy but he regularly fights along side heavy hitters like Storm, Colossus, and Jean. He's gotta be tough. - Int: 10: He's not necessarily unintelligent but Intelligence isn't really necessary for the build I'm guessing. - Wis: 15: I'm pretty sure Scott is basically always a founding member of the modern X-Men and is one of the most pivotal members, going on lot's of missions and seeing lots of places and battles. - Cha: 8: As I mentioned before he's just kind of there in the movies, doesn't really talk too much. He may be more charismatic in the comics/cartoons, but I don't know much about those. Class(es) - Sun Soul Monk: Basically, Cyclopse's blasts are described as "a powerful beam of concussive, ruby-colored force from his eyes. Cyclops' powers come from ambient energies (such as solar radiation, photons, and cosmic rays) absorbed and metabolized by his body into concussive blasts that are released from his eyes." (Marvel Database). "Blasts of energy" and "Solar" sounds an awful lot like sun soul monk to me so I'm guessing between 6 to 10 levels of Sun Soul monk to get Radiant Sun Bolt and Searing Arc Strike as well as a decent supply of Ki points. - Champion fighter to get Unarmed fighting, some skills, and better crits on his blasts. - Scout Rogue to get even more skills. Okay Tulok, show me the Centaur Wizard/Sorcerer!
So yeah, currently part way through Level 1 (4:13) and Tulok is really driving home that his optic blasts aren't lasers, I forgot Eldritch Blast did force damage. That was my B.
Cyclops Players: "Good news, my blasts have Sabretooth on the ropes. Bad news is he's about five miles that way. X-Men, charge!" By the way, with the new movie coming out, is there any chance for a Godzilla build? I'd settle for Kong.
If we want a generic Kaiju build, Duergar Rune Knight Fighter w/unarmed fighting to reach Gargantuan size class (If you're not a duergar, you can only get to huge without help), could work for a kong build, if it's a really hairy duergar.
I did a version of this a few months ago. Same subclasses too but invested more in sorcerer (12 levels) since I figured, mutant with natural born gifts/powers. Great minds 😬
Rogue, warlock, enchantment wizard.Take misty visions and mask of many faces. Early game with minor illusions to and mind sliver as cantrips with a well placed hex can make it almost impossible to get through your sharingan.
It satisfies me that people say Scott is one of the more boring characters. When I was young and first introduced to Cyclops through the James Marsden version I loved him because of his confidence, leadership and what I thought were laser beams. Laser beams are cool to a 10 year old, what can I say? The more I grew up and researched comic book lore I was fascinated by the action hero he could be - he's a skilled strategist, martial artists and pilot, which are all "groovy", as James McAvoy would say. Then you've got his personal life. He's a super-powerful badass with a super-powerful badass girlfriend/wife, the leader of a super-powerful badass team and has very strong morality. At the same time, his strict morality makes him really intriguing because he routinely sells his friends and loved ones down the river whenever he hears that there is patriotism to be had. He's a shocking father, a chronic-cheater, has heavily sheltered emotions and so much more going on beneath the surface that makes him a really messed up dude that can barely tell which way is up sometimes. Whilst I don't have any of his skills and I haven't done any of the things he has done, I can relate to how he struggles and that's made me love the character from childhood to now
I always wondered how the heck you'd make Cyclops in 5E. Nicely done. I do think the build could use the Spell Sniper feat for an extra 300 feet of range though. Throw in distant spell for that nice 1200 feet range!
I know you did unarmed fighting because Scott can also punch things But I think blind fighting might be better and more in character for Scott. He’s specifically trained to fight blind if it’s not safe to open his eyes, and now you don’t need to invest in strength so much. Scott really isn’t that much of a puncher anyways, and being able to detect an invisible enemy 10 feet away is more useful than the punching.
Yay, my favorite comic book character finally gets his turn. Good job on the build, my one nitpick is I'd want to work in some way to get Persuasion expertise. But that's only because I love to reference that one time he defeated a batch of Sentinels by convincing them to go fight the sun. He also once capped off a negotiation with Dracula by telling him to follow his heart. And it worked. That's gotta count for something.
