To be fair, it's because that monitor is a unicorn. It's a specific Dell Business monitor that retailed for over $550 when it was new. For those of us that were around back then would have never seen an LCD perform like that. I was still using a CRT for my PC and a Commodore 1084 monitor for gaming. We were still largely using CRT TVs during that era.

That's awesome! From what I can tell the Hyperkin adapter really only worked properly with the Hyperkin NES clone, so this is definitely a better option. I've got an Everdrive, so I might have to check that out this weekend to see if the gun that came with the adapter will work with this new method or if I'll need to get a different one. Thanks for the heads up. 🙂

Another option if you have not seen it is the Sinden Light gun. Works on any light gun game though it will not work on original hardware as you need to project a white box around your screen.

I noticed you are doing a lot of these LCD monitor videos. You should try to find a 2008 Dell 2408wfpb. I was gifted one and it is amazing for games. HDMI, VGA, Display Port, 2 DVI ports, S-Video, Component, Composite, CF slot, xD/SD/MS/MMC, 5 USB ports.

Monitors still have a huge problem, they are 60Hz. And they are expensive. TV's from 2008-2011, the golden age, are so much better and way cheaper.

I would like to take another route to this: have an USB-adapter for the original gun that allows me to use it in emulation. I found that on a FullHD TV or better I rather prefer blocky rendition of emulation to upscaling from the compositie PAL signal of the original bread box.

There's a lot of Duck Hunt hacks. It's worth applying to those to see if there's compatibility with overlapping the IPS patches. I'd try patching the hack, then the LCD ips, then do the same in reverse. May work one way or the other, or both.

Only no other way I found recently was using my y in vr with EmuVR. I have all NES, virtua cops, house of the dead , and Time Crisis But the PS2 core isn’t light fun supported yet. That’s the only one missing

Hardware-wise I think most were pretty similar. Software wise the NES actually used a pretty simplified technique of detecting a white box that appeared on the target when you pulled the trigger. Other light guns used the full screen turning white and measuring the timings of scanlines drawing on the screen and when the light gun detected white light to determine where you were pointed on the screen.

does this have to run on original hardware? I bought 2 different zappers, one you recommended and another one, patched the rom on a N8 cartridge with links provided and it doesn't work. I am using a HDMI dual loader console.

No idea the console you are using but it works on original hardware and some clones, but maybe not all. Make sure the zapper is in port 2 and make sure the game loads where it has the neslcdmod noted on the bottom of the title screen.

@@Madlittlepixel my clone console works on all my cartridges and 1/10 times if you are about 1 inch from the screen you can actually hit something with the gun, not sure if the patched rom was bad so Im going to re-patch and try different duck hunt roms and see if I can get it to work.

Yep, just make sure you dont have 4 controller support turned on, if that is turned on the zapper may not work.

So I tried this, and on my TV, it always "hits" the duck if I point the gun at the TV anywhere. If I point it off the screen, then it misses. I tried playing with the brightness settings but nothing helped. Did anyone else run into this and figure out how to fix it?
