Thanks for the awesome and simple tutorial, and also you're close to your first 100K view video. I know that getting one's first 1K view video, 10K view video, 50K view video, and 100K view video is a big deal.

For me it would be very helpful if you'd actually play the complete scale, at tempo, a few times, especially at the beginning. We don't get to see you do the complete movements till eleven minutes into a 12 minute video. And then it's only once. And it's so slow that for me at least, it's difficult to sense the flow of the movements.

Very informative, especially these days with all of the digital pianos around, this skill is becoming a thing of the past, therefore many keyboardists/organists are not all that familiar on how the sound really good on the pedal division of an organ. What is with all of the creaks and groans, has this wood console become too dry and in danger of cracking and splitting? It sounds quite like you are on a ship and the wood (or steel) is flexing along with the water outside? As for using pitches higher than 16' for low C, this is done all of the time, such as when an organist wants to play a melody on the pedal division! If you can (based on the organ that is available), play 32' and lower pitches on the pedals, that way you will get that rumbling, feel it more than hear it, bass line that is so popular with the younger set within the last twenty some years or so! It is the first and so far only kind of infinitely sustainable bass that I can think of! Now, if I could only find a reasonably priced MIDI (or preferably) USB AGO 32 pedalboard that could be connected to my digital keyboard? The way they build these keyboards these days, you can't connect a MIDI board to a USB board with a MIDI/USB cable and have them both play as a coupled pair of manuals (the USB/MIDI converter only works to connect a MIDI keyboard to a computer via USB)!

Thank you for this video, Dr. Pinkevicius. This appears to be a parallel style pedalboard. I am wondering if you would recommend any variations in technique to somebody learning to play an organ with an AGO-spec pedalboard.

I'm just starting on organ lessons - what is the advantages of that seemingly awkward pedaling on g-a-b-c compared to doing toe-heel with the right foot only for these tones?

very useful for beginners it might be worthwhile mentioning that many organists now try to play baraque music using no heels and also use the 3 position technique for pedelling - position 1 on the accidentals or in the gaps, position 2 - normal and position 3 toe of one foot behind the heal of the other. The "Cambridge Companion to the Organ" book has many examples of how the baroque and romantic approaches differ and also how the pedelling has changed over time for the same piece of music.

Why do you heel and toe with your left foot from C to G, but don't do the same thing with the right foot from A to C?

Dans le cas des techniques de pédalier, il n'y a rien d'obsolète...! Chacun adapte à sa morphologie et ses compétences . Et même le style de l'époque !

why would you use an obsolete technique? I you could bring Bach or Sweelinck to this time they would find the baroque technique very bad compared to our current techniques of organplaying. I think they would be very impressed with, say, Dupre's pedal techniques and would find it far more superior.

So I think that’s a perfectly fair point. Bach especially was a great adopter of new techniques. That said, sometimes original techniques can unlock certain articulations that bring the music alive. Using historical fingering for French baroque music for example really clarifies the texture and makes the points of emphasis and all the micro-articulations pop.
