As I was looking for lessons of Morrison's jig that plays exactly the same version as the Bothy Band I found Tiffany Schaefer then checked her videos and found yours 45 minutes 🙂 So you mom plays the fidil? The fiddle with guitar in my favourite combo for duets. I also watch Sarah Laughland and Perrine Merssimer videos. They post tunes of the day daily.
Good tutorial as always, thanks. I am looking to buy a new acoustic guitar mainly for strumming/accompanying jigs and reels etc. I read somewhere that some prefer to have a guitar with mahogany top for the sound to get through. I mainly play together with fiddle and accordion. What guitar would you recommend? I dont live in the UK so dont have access to the local market there as such.
Hi Justin. My personal preference is for spruce tops as the sound is a bit brighter and cuts through well in sessions. However there is so much variation between different models and even different units of the same model that really the best thing you can do is go to a shop with a lot of options, play as many as you can and then buy the one that feels most natural to you! A solid back is a real plus point for the sound if you can afford it. Also make sure that you get it set up with a nice low action and ideally medium light strings.
