Wow, love the results and it wasn’t too time consuming. Would you recommend adding protection like a ceramic coating, if so, what would you use?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
A true coating (glass bottle) would certainly last longer. But if you want to apply a true coating, it has to bond directly to the surface, and not on top of the Uno Advance. So if you want longer lasting protection, might as well do the entire procedure to perfection, meaning: water sanding, compound, polish, IPA wipe and a ceramic coating applied is usually the best restoration method. That's if the headlights are really faded/oxidized. If they're in good shape, then a light polish with something like Sonax Perfect Finish, followed by a paint prep spray (like CarPro Eraser) and then the ceramic coating is perfectly acceptable.

Agreed. Years ago I totally forgot to tell the dealership NOT to wash my car. It was in the middle of a Northeast winter, I let my car go for weeks on end without washing it because of the bitter cold, it was a black car and when I went to pick my car up I was convinced it wasn’t my car! They gave me a “courtesy wash”, they must have used one of those brushes and it looked like someone sanded my car. I won’t ever make that mistake…

Yup. Tape one Post-It note with painters tape on the Steering Wheel and one on passenger Dash.. “Do not Wash or Wipe”. I also have them put a permanent note on my account that pops up when I take my car in for any service.

Awesome demonstration. The tail light looks great. If you own your car for many years and take care of it about how many times can you polish it? You only have so much clear coat?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
Ideally, you would apply a true ceramic coating on it (that lasts for years) and do proper maintenance washes yourself that way you won't have any swirls or scratches if you use safe washing and drying methods. But if you vehicle goes through tunnel washes, gets washed at the dealership, or you use improper washing and drying methods, you will have to polish often. How much is impossible to tell, as it will vary between car makes, models, etc. You could also decide to have a paint protection film applied to them so they resist scratches and swirls.

Great demo as always, thanks! Loved seeing and hearing more about the Uno polish. Would it be reasonable to lightly polish headlights/tail lights once a year with this?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
You could do the same on headlights too, but keep in mind, neglected headlights that are heavily yellowed, oxidized and/or have a hazy/chalky white appearance, typically need more polishing techniques. Water sanding, compound, polish, IPA wipe and a ceramic coating applied is usually the best restoration method. If they headlights are only lightly faded, and you don't have the time or all the tools for a full restoration, you can also use a quick tool-less method like in my headlight restoration tutorial here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sqpXsBcVako.html

Great video as always, thank you! I recently did a hand sanding/polishing with a turtle wax kit and then sealed with a wet wipes coat and uv protection provided in the kit. Later I bought a DA polisher and now want to improve the results. Do you think it's okay to do as in this video despite an extra layer of coat and uv protection on my headlights?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
If they headlights are only lightly faded, and you don't have the time or all the tools for a full restoration, you can also use a quick tool-less method like in my headlight restoration tutorial here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sqpXsBcVako.html That's likely what you did in your case. If you want a deeper and more extensive headlight restoration to achieve maximum results for clarity and protection, you typically need more polishing techniques. Water sanding, compound, polish, IPA wipe and a ceramic coating applied is usually the best restoration method.

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
Yes Rupes Uno Advanced is as good on paint, as long as you know its limitations. This is an all-in-one type polish, meant to correct light imperfections, swirls and scratches. If you have severe deeper scratches/swirls and heavy oxidation, it's best to use the traditional method of compound, polish, IPA wipe and then ceramic coating.

Hello Pan, thank you for all your videos and instructions. I have a question for you. I bought a brand new Mazda CX-5 last February. How can I protect my head lights and tail lights?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
Congrats on your new CX-5. You would apply the same protection as your paint. Ideally a long lasting ceramic coating. That will prevent the lights from oxidizing and yellowing over time. A new car is never new until it's properly detailed. - at the factory, the paint defects are often corrected quickly by rotary polishing which can leave marks and holograms, so polishing corrects those, before you lock that in long term with a ceramic coating for example. - vehicles are then transported by truck, train and boat so they are exposed to the elements, industrial fallout, brake dust, rail dust, etc - vehicles are often left at boat docks (when transported by boat) or in exterior parking lots for weeks or months, again being exposed to the elements - at the dealership, the vehicles are almost always poorly prepped using the same dirty water that was used for all the cars on a given day, and poor washing and drying methods leading to swirls and scratches - at the dealership, a layer of cheap wax or paint sealant is usually applied to attempt to make the paint glossy prior to delivery. It's crucial to remove any previous protection before you apply a ceramic coating, as coatings need to bond directly to a virgin clear coat. If you only plan on applying a regular carnauba wax or paint sealant though, you could decide to skip machine polishing, as those protectants can be applied over existing protection and it's not as crucial to prep the paint as well. I explain all of this in this popular video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QgoyrC-5CMc.html So you can better visualize the new car prep process, here are the steps I perform on a brand new car from two of my customers: Aston Martin Vantage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OKga3yZVTqo.html Tesla Model Y: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gohks8xP5NY.html Porsche 911 Carrera: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2ckiivbFqs4.html Audi Q7: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t7HCBSVnizM.html BMW M6 Gran Coupe: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0lC9uyKXs8Q.html BMW M340i: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-etXhJNaF0EE.html Audi RS3: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-641mAJfKDLM.html Golf R: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jr19g4PWJsk.html

Hey Pan, So after waiting the required 15 minutes and you buff off the polish, is it okay to repeat the same steps if you haven't removed all the swirls? By repeating the same steps, would you then be removing the first coat of protection?

You could certainly repeat. Yes the polishing would likely remove the initial protection, but that doesn't matter, as you'd be laying done a fresh layer of protection with your second pass.

@Akuroxradio
@Akuroxradio Год назад
J'avais la même question
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
It does great on paint too, as long as you have realistic expectations. As this is an all-in-one polish, it's not meant to remove heavy and deep scratches or swirls of heavy oxidation. It's meant for a light paint enhancement, to correct minor defects, all while adding some light protection on the surface that can last 6 to 12 months according to Rupes.

What ceramic coating would you recommend? I was thinking the Gyeon Pure. What are your thoughts? Thanks again, all the best.
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Год назад
Keep in mind, you wouldn't use the Rupes Uno Advanced if you plan on applying a true ceramic coating (the ones in a glass bottle). UNO Advanced already lays down it's own protection, and you don't want that before applying a coating as coatings need to bond directly to virgin clear coat. UNO Advanced isn't meant to be used as a primer for ceramic coatings. UNO Advanced is meant as an all-in-one polish, meaning it takes care of light scratches/swirls and applies a thin layer of protection that can last 6 to 12 months. If you plan on applying a ceramic coating, use a polish that has no protection in it, like Sonax Perfect Finish for example. And after the polishing stage, use an IPA to wipe the surface of any polishing oils, and then you'd apply the coating.
