This is a recap of a 7 part series. In which, I took a used garage door opener that I got for FREE, from my local garage door installer, and installed it on an old engine stand. This video gives the highlights of the series and focuses on the important parts. You will see the basics of how I mounted the Eastwood Bead Roller and one major modification to the bead roller itself. If you need more information or more detail please check out the series. Thanks for watching and Please Subscribe to our Channel.

This is a identical bead roller that i purchased at Princess Auto in Canada. Going to use a 12 volt winch setup to power mine with a 120 volt converter to 12 volt with a potentiometer to control the speed, and foot pedal for hands free on the power unit.

Grainier has a line of gear reduction motors that I’ve used for slow conveyor belts on a dryer that I built years ago.

This is a great video guide for making a DIY upgraded bead roller. Thank you for taking the time to consolidate your other videos! I have been putting off this project but thanks to you, I'm ready to go! Maybe you will make a power hammer or tipping wheel some time? Subscribed!

Interesting drive system! I like it. I used a small harbor freight winch to power mine. I did a video series on it as well. Nice work!

I have one bead roller of a very similar construction and I''ve modified it to rule out the rigidity problem, I made a plate very similar to the master plate of this machine and 6 stand off 2 5/8" long, I located that plate exactly in the face of the main machine plate so the shafts and the blocks are hidden by both plates, these plates are maintained 2 5/8" each other using standoffs and bolts, this rules out all the rigidity problems and this machine can handle much heavier work. I truly like your drive system, the main inconvenient I see is when you have to do tight curves in a confined design.I'll take the time to desing a drive permitting to have the power and the manual mode to cover these situations.

nice job, i plan on powering mine with a motor i removed from a home/hospital bed, they a part of the linear actuators used to raise and lower the different part of the bed, normally there are three per bed, they are powered in two directions, i'm thinking i can control the speed a little with a rheostat, i'm thinking ill try an old double roller timing chain, thanks for reminding me i need to get at that job lol

better to use a Variac, as a Rheostat will blow the breaker

Just curious but wouldn’t a windshield washer motor with a larger gear and a smaller gear on the roller be enough power at a slower speed
@twadam5218
@twadam5218 4 года назад
Your still using the foot pedal, right ... Is this variable speed ?
@oregonhotrod7847
@oregonhotrod7847 4 года назад
Yes, still using foot pedal. It is not variable speed. However, in the first video of the bead roller series, I address the variable speed issue. I decided if the speed was slow enough and controllable enough, I could live with that. With the 48 tooth sprocket, it works quite well. Thanks for your comment. Ron
