EPISODE 4
Taking the rough wood from the yard to the bench -- and all the steps in between. Your prep-process will make the project all the more enjoyable. Tom talks through some things to consider. This is an overview of using both approaches -- using hand tools and machine tools. We'll be taking a deeper dive into topics like handplaning in future episodes.
At the end of the video Tom invites you to view a livestream of a Veneering Demo to which will be provided an End screen link. Or visit it here: • Video

QUESTIONS: (hear the answer at the noted time)
• What if the board is wider than the jointer? (00:23:33)
• If your board is wider than the jointer, but smaller than the width of your planer, can you use a sled to both joint and thickness the board?(00:28:56)
• What about snipe?? (00:34:29)
• On occasion I cause a board to come off the jointer tapered side to side. How does I do that? (00:44:47)
• Nice card scraping! can you show us another time how to sharpen it? (00:46:28)
• Do you use a scraping plane and for what situation would you use it rather than a card scraper? (00:47:17)
• Can you talk about the advantage of using higher blade angles on planes when surfacing highly figured woods? (00:49:13)

Loved the video. As you know there are many videos on planer snipe. I was surprised there was snipe on the board. I thought the high end heavy duty planers did not produce snipe. Is snipe inevitable unless "jigs" are used to stabilize the board?
