YES! Thank you so much! I contacted Acer, looking for the file name for my BIOS file. I knew how to do everything else. Acer assured me that it is not something a simple computer tech such as myself could handle and that I would need to ship it in for repairs. I argued with him for about 30 minutes with no results. All I was asking for what the file name but he wouldn't give it up; That's super secret, Acer-only, confidential information. With your trick I was able to get the name myself and fix my customer's laptop.
@@asatechnical Hi Nathan Hi ASA I have been trying to search for the .fd file, in the HxD program, but it keeps saying ''no file found'' the file I extracted was called, CL50145A.fd, but on closer examination of the video, when in the WinRAR at position 6.47 minutes, when you click to view the bios files, and they open up, on the video the BDW.fd file has an HxD icon next to it. Why would a download from Acer have a HxD icon next to it? has a part of the video been missed. My .fd file has a piece of paper with a folded down corner. I have tried looking for other file extensions as listed above in other replies.

My laptop does not recognize my bootable flash drive now that I am trying to copy the the new .fd file to it. Why is it not seeing it anymore ? It shows as 7.73 GB FAT32 Healthy (Active, Primary Partition) in Disk Management. Help !!!

I get to the extraction part of your video (6:55) ... so using WinRar I try to extract my HMAV106.fd file to my desktop and WinRar opens a window requesting that I enter a password ... "Enter password for the encrypted file in archive HMAV106.exe" with a blank password field below. please help if you can!!! my Dell precision t1700 Bios been corrupted and is unreadable(failure to POST) i tried to load a O.S with a flash drive and while switching to uefi safe move and restarting my computer no longer post. clearing cmos ,drain of power ,checking all ports monitors and cords dident fix the issue Computer was maybe interrupted during load(Cant remember but most likely).any help to fix my BIOS. i Might need a Flash.Anyone with experience with this??

OK Try this as it worked for me, if you cannot find the .fd string in the .fd file then leave it as the name you found it. Then go through the steps of putting it on a bootable flash drive, hitting FN & Escape and then powering the laptop on. The update should take around 2min and will reboot when it has finished updating, stopping the FN & Escape when it powers off

The BIOS firmware file also can be ROM, BIN or WPH instead of FD. In that case you will need to rename the BIOS file with the decoded text and change the file extension to .fd

Try this to get your .fd file from an .exe file. When you have downloaded the latest BIOS for your faulty laptop run that .exe file on your machine that you just downloaded it from assuming here that this machine is different from the faulty one. The install will fail as it cannot install on a foreign BIOS but it will put the install files [which will have your .fd file] on your working PC/laptop. To find where the .exe installed the .fd file go to: C:\Users\'yourname'\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS638C.tmp . Remember that you need to unhide your file structure to view the 'Appdata' folder, and 7z........tmp is the name of my extractor software or just check the time stamp
@@yoakim55 ended up flashing linux to it, worked perfectly, reflashed windows, worked fine but then halfway through an update it went black again. so determined the new bios doesnt like the windows driver for some graphics i dunno. working now lol. thanks for the input!
