Can we propagate D. Capensis like D. Binata
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
Yes you certainly can. Almost all Drosera can be cloned with the method shown. Biggest exceptions to this would include the Petiolaris Complex of Sundews, which you have to perform leaf pullings similar to a Venus Flytrap trap.

Hey! Quick question, can you mix bladderworts with drosera or dioanaea in 1 pot?
@batteryweasel
@batteryweasel 2 года назад
Nobody answered but the answer is yes, if it's climate appropriate. Bladderworts would do fine with tropical drosera. They would probably die back if it gets too cold with flytraps or temperate pitcher plants.

I see you have both LED red/blue color and white grow lights. In your experience does one work better than the other when growing plants and seeds under lights? I’ve been told the LED red/blue lights work best. Oh yes, also . . . I see your placing your propagations under lights. I’ve seen other videos where growers say to keep them somewhere bright but not in direct light. Do both methods work? LAST QUESTION. When is the best time to propagate by leaf cutting method? For example when repotting before coming out of dormancy, can we leaf pull then since still dormant? Okay that was 2 last questions.

I thought bladderworts grew in bodies of water, I had no idea they could grow in pots with soil. How do they catch pray? I thought they feed on water fleas and other small aquatic creatures.

Bladderworts grow in a wide range of environments from streams to the tops of trees! The terrestrial species still eat microscopic prey found in the medium through the vacuum trap.

@@JohnsCarnivorousPlants Thats awesome I had no idea. Can I ask what variety you were propagating in your video? Thanks for all the info!

Do you sell seeds?
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
Yes I do, I have some D. Spatulata seeds available currently. Shoot me an email (it's in my about me section on my youtube page) and we can hammer out the details to get them to you!

Do you not need to remove the traps from the venus flytrap leaf before you put them in water?
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
You do not. Cutting off the trap means you're giving the plant less surface area to perform photosynthesis and that means less energy to make baby plants.

How many watts do u use
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
80 watt T12 lights for the clones, 80 watt Red/Blue LEDs for the rest.

@@JohnsCarnivorousPlants what do u think is better for vfts and sundews? 150w full spectrum or 100w pink?
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
@@happygreen3613, for collections and not production, full spectrum. You'll be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the plants much better. If you're trying to grow for production, Red/Blue because you can trigger flowering much quicker.

@@JohnsCarnivorousPlants how about if i want to propagate from division? What is better for new growth points? Pink or full spec
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants
@JohnsCarnivorousPlants 3 года назад
@@happygreen3613 , use full spectrum. If your plants aren't growing good using full spectrum light, a different wave length won't fix your problems.
