I will teach you how to properly setup GSYNC or GSYNC Compatible displays for a perfect tear free experience. Because it's not as simple as plug and play there are some settings that you have to adjust to get the best use case out of GSYNC.

I use the gsync option on my 4k TV, but turning on Vertical Sync and Latency to ultra, caused my GPU to stress at 1080p reaching 70º C, when usually it stayed at 50-60º C. I never had tear screens. I prefer using Vsync it limits my fps to the screen maximum, don't want 220fps on cut scenes and high fan speeds and temperatures.

Set your max FPS to 119 (120hz TV) or 59 (60hz TV) with Vsync! 3 FPS lower without Vsync! Otherwise you'll have double the latency and the picture won't still be smooth as it should.

Always set to "On" in GPU control panel and "Off" in-game with the rare execption being a game that just doesn't work properly with it's Vsync disabled. Rare but a few games this happens with, you can usually tell if the game itself doesn't have any Vsync off/on option in-game and uses Vsync by default. In those cases you can leave the in-game enabled.

That myth of where you need v sync on to enabled g sync is not true, that is only for the early implementation of g sync. Rn you can enjoy the full benefits of g sync (which is removing screen tearing) without using the v sync. Frankly, v sync is just terrible in todays world and it doesn't worth the benefits x performance cost(input lag) that you're getting.

It's so odd because I think when g-sync came out it was important to not use v-sync, I wonder what changed because I've read it several places that using it is correct which I believe it wasn't back in the day. I think turning off vsync for Overwatch is a mistake, I can't explain why but I'm pretty sure that Gsync helps in higher frames as well by matching gpu/cpu with refreshrate.

I switched from a 6800xt to a 4090 and the VRR that Nvidia uses is just plain bad. This was almost never an issue on AMD. VRR or Freesync just worked. If you set the frame cap in a game or on the AMD software it was 99% of the time going to work. Sometimes there was some overshoot but that was almost always the game. I never used Vsync, ever. This is one of my biggest frustrations Switching over to Nvidia. Thanks for the video though hopefully this helps my issues.

That's bullshit... It's your wrong settings. Your 6800XT was waaay too slow to get into the range of your displays max FPS. That's why you never had to use VSYNC. Now you've got a 4090 and it's super easy for it to come into the max range of your display, but as soon as you get there you either have to cap the FPS lower than your displays Hz (for 120 it's 117 without Vsync and 119 with Vsync) - if not you won't have a butter smooth experience and double the input latency. *You also have to disable the Freesync on your monitor/TV!!* Also VRR is the standard of actual displays, but the display itself only can use AMD Freesync if it's labeled as such and Nvidia G-Sync works over the GPU itself if used at a VRR display. It's all the same, but for AMD it's the display and for Nvidia the GPU that has to be supported.

@@MrLindonese Don't use "Fast" with G-Sync. In your GPU control panel just set Vsync to "On". For your 2nd question you probably have LLM (Low Latency Mode) set to Ultra that's why that's happening. If you're using Ultra then you don't need to use another program to cap your FPS, nor should you.

For Games like Apex Legends you actually WANT to cap your fps (just a bit under your average fps - works best with applications like RivaTuner) while using g-sync with vsync. Using vsync with gsync acutally improves latency, it is MEANT to be used together. The reason for this is the stabilizing effect for your FRAMETIME. The image feels butter-smooth, with almost no input latency. Also, activate TRIPLE BUFFERING, as it increases performance while using vsync.

I imagine that you're just using yourself as to whether it's working well instead of using things like RTSS and FrameView to look in depth at what's happening? The short answer is it shouldn't be used with G-Sync. I could go into the details if you're intereseted.

@@gregthesplintercell What FPS are you getting? The reason you might not see tearing is that you could be playing in a borderless windowed fullscreen mode even if you think or your game claims it's using exclusive fullscreen they often are not especially in the last few years and with Windows 10-11 because they're essentially forcing it and have stopped most common methods of use of exclusive fullscreen. If you're interested I can direct you to a free program made by Nvidia that shows useful stats in real time to easily find out for sure. Almost everyone that thinks they're using exclusive fullscreen really isn't. G-Sync still mostly works in borderless fullscreen but I prefer using exclusive still as I find it's the best for G-Sync. A few people don't have issues with tearing either they don't see them or they don't bother them much but I'm pretty sure an average person would still notice tears @ 144Hz Fast Sync is really only useful and provides any kind of input lag reduction when it far exceeds refresh rate (roughly 5x so 60Hz with 300FPS or 120Hz with 600FPS etc) and the system can maintain that FPS constantly with little or no drops. Since G-Sync is only active up to the current refresh rate in use (144Hz = 144FPS) this means for Fast Sync to be of any use it will always be out of Gsync range which is effectively a waste of using G-Sync and a G-Sync monitor.

most modern monitors have Gsync compatibility so u will be good to go , still i would recommend turning it off for COMPETIVE games because it increases input delay , only use it for laid back games - witcher flight sims , red dead . and with 4090 u will have enough high fps that u wont even need Gsync probably but if tearing bothers u , use it for sure , im on 3070 and when i played witcher 3 i barely got 70-80 fps on 2k , but it looked worse because of tearing , when i turned g sync on , same frame rates look smother .

Having a rtx 4090 with 144hz monitor depending whether how high your resolutions are will change the amount of FPS you could get I'll turn on G-Sync + V-Sync Fast if the frame rates double/triple the refresh rate, or G-Sync + V-Sync On if it's not, Set frame limiter to -3 from the refresh rate, and turn on Low Latency Mode On (Ultra if Frame limiter are unavailable or not working). It will give you the best experience possible imo Also, as the person above points out, selectively turn off V-Sync in competitive game while G-Sync is on and turn off frame limiter and low latency mode as the game will run as fast as possible to give you the most recent frame possible (micro-tearing will be present)

I was taught not to use vsync and only to use gysnc. Vsync lowers framerate and puts more stress on gpu to match fps with monitors constant refresh rate. Where as gsync communicates with monitor to match refresh rate with fps which allows for less stress on gpu during fps drops which means you lose less fps and have no stutter. From my experience on a budget gtx1650 4 gb, vsync causes drops from 60-45 where as gsync holds a 59-60 constant with 0 tearing same games same settings.

Turning on v-sync alongside using g-sync works differently than v-sync alone. And to get the most benefits from g-sync you should have v-sync on in the Nvidia Control Panel as well as having your Low Latency Mode set to Ultra.
@luxemier
@luxemier Год назад
@@HiltTilt bro the only thing that vsync is doing when enabled on nvidia control panel whilst gsync is enabled is just capping your framerate in an effective way that gsync is enabled without issues
@JeffVanRooy
@JeffVanRooy Год назад
@@luxemier That's not even remotely true, like literally not at all. First of all. When Gsync is engaged and active within it's range Vsync *NEVER* engages *EVER*. Second, Gsync doesn't cap refresh rate unless you're using "Ultra" Low Latency Mode, which is why you need manually to cap your FPS if it might exceed Gsync range. Third, and most importantly the control panel Vsync setting in the control panel no longer acts as Vsync Off or On, and actually dictates whether, one, the G-SYNC module compensates for frametime variances output by the system which prevents tearing at all times, and two, whether Gsync falls back on fixed refresh rate Vsync behavior. To clairify this means that: When the Vsync setting in control panel is “On,” then Gsync reverts to Vsync fixed refresh rate behavior when/if FPS exceeds Gsync range. When Vsync setting in control panel is “Off,” then Gsync will disable itself when/if FPS exceeds its range, and tearing will begin display wide.

after almost a decade of AMD, i'm on my first days of a nvidia on my desktop. from a 6900xt to a rtx 4080. i have to say, i'm finding a LOT of downgrades all over that people never mention. Gsync is one of them. Freesync on AMD works just so much better. it just fucking works. meanwhile i can't get the bullshit gsync compatible to work on borderless windows. So far, it's been a disappointment. [edit] nevermind, found the culprit. it was a toggle on the genshin fps unlocker that "auto disables vsync". now with vsync + low latency ultra + gsync it's smooth like it was with my radeon. phew. or maybe not. frame pacing below the frame cap seems a bit worse. bah. well at least it's better than it was before.

@TheTacticalTuna
@TheTacticalTuna Год назад

@JeffVanRooy
@JeffVanRooy Год назад
If you get stuttering then something else is set incorrectly. Remember if your FPS exceeds refresh rate Gsync will either disenage itself or revert to Vsync's fixed refresh rate behavior which is why you need to cap your FPS below refresh rate if your FPS gets anywhere near refresh rate. I say anywhere near because most people use terrible programs to see FPS and 99/100 times it's a heavily averaged number it's not accurate at all. Use something that you can adjust how much if any averaging is used such as RTSS. Every single time it exceeds refresh rate even if it's only for a single frame every minute it will cause issues.
