WORD OF ADVISE . I HAD 2 BOATS THAT WOULD NOT START UP AFTER THEY GOT WARM THEY WHERE GETTING INTERFERENCE FROM OLD TAC WOULD CRANK RUN LIKE TIMING WAS OUT . FIGURED OUT TAC WAS CREATING RESISTANCE . DISCONNECT TAC RAN FINE .
ARROWTUBE he’s talking about a tachometer, or your rpm gauge..on older mercruiser engines they use a gray wire which is the tach signal coming from the ground side of the coil up to the tach(proper abbreviation). What happens is that the tach gets shorted internally to ground causing a no spark issue
check the kill switch by pulling the two wires off the back of it and connecting them together: this will bypass the kill switch. if it starts then go buy a new kill switch. also turn ignition to ON and check the positive lead on the coil with a test lamp by .ground one end of test lamp to neg battery terminal and the probe end on positive side of coil, do this with the negative side of coil wires removed...if lamp lights up bright, your coil is good and your ignition switch is also good...if you also had the kill switch connected normally..it to is good.. this will leave your point gaps as the problem..they are probably way to far apart..or fouled plugs or timing way to far off..coils are usually very strong and dont fail much..but point gap can become way off and cause no starts.
check gas. [check in glass jars later] see water in gas? ethenyole.sipion gas and flush SKEET. and possble rebuild carb if still no start after cheking for spark. coil. cap rotos. plugs, wiring fuses
I have already replaced both of those parts. My starter sounds exactly like the one in this video but engine won't start up. Its not getting power. Any ideas how to fix?
your main power plug is corded unplug it and clean it just got my boat running after a year just sitting because it would not crank over. after i clean the plug it started.
Terrible advice from this video. Was probably created by an AI bot. There are at least 5 other things more likely to cause a no spark condition other than the coil. Coils are almost NEVER the problem in this kind of motor.
