Awesome video Ashley. I measure a roof by measuring the house footprint and add a metre on each side. I also use a triple extension pulex pole and gopro hero 4 and photo survey it. Great before and after photos for the client

joshua cave Thanks for your kind words. In most cases I just spray on the biocide and leave it, so it will then remain on the tiles and act as a preventative.😃👍🏼

uniteallaction I wouldn’t lean against the gutters if they were those metal ones, you would scratch the so easily. We don’t have so many of those in the UK. It’s fine to lean against the plastic type.😃👍🏼

Thanks for your comments. The job in the video was easily completed in a day. There wasn’t a lot of moss and they were quite easy tiles to scrape.😃👍🏼

I simplify it by doing it by the square footage of the home. I know homes or buildings with two stories or more dont get as good of a deal, but people with larger homes tend to be able to afford more and it's more of an investment to maintain a larger building or house. Square footage of building's in the United States is public and easily accessible.

I will charge a bit more per m2 for a smaller roof, and less per m2 for a larger roof.😃👍🏼

hi there, always enjoy the videos and they have been a great help for me in my first year. You were saying roughly £3.00 per sq meter 3 years ago and just wondered roughly what to aim for now approx please. all the best

Thanks for your comments. It really depends on how you approach the job and how you present your business. Roof cleaning can really come across as a specialist service, so now I charge at least £7/8 per square meter, including cleaning and biocide treatment.👍🏼

How do you deal with asphalt tiles? Here in Canada scraping asphalt tiles is not possible as it would take them off the roof so just wondering about some advice on getting these cleaned thoroughly. Thanks and keep the videos coming!

Jasdasup We don’t have to deal with that kind of thing here in the UK. You could possibly treat it with biocide first, then come back a week or so later to remove the moss. It would be easier to remove once it has died off and you could probably just gently brush it off.😃👍🏼

Thanks for great content, we've just moved house in December and the roof suffers from moss. I was thinking to get a sprayer and treat the roof with biocide so moss starts dying. Need a sprayer and a pole that's about 4m long, what would you recommend? Is this the right approach?

C Patel There are more videos about this on the Roof Cleaning playlist on my channel. I have tried just spraying roofs, but the moss never really drops off completely. It needs some gentle encouragement with a scraper.😃👍🏼

Glenn Baker It’s good to be careful around solar panels. If you make sure you wash them thoroughly afterwards, they should be fine. But fishponds are not so good. I think it’s quite harmful to fish, but there should be a warning on the label about this. Always best to check the particular product you are using.😃👍🏼

I would measure the area if you can, work out how much chemical you think you will need, and go from there.😃👍🏼

I charge a very similar price either way to be honest. Scraping is more labour intensive but pressure washing gives a more instant result. So it’s swings and roundabouts really.😆👍🏼

I seen on the other videos that you pressure wash the roof with the mosmatic surface cleaner. Are you charging the same for that method too?

No. I am charging much more now than I stated in this video. The method I use to quote is still the same though.😃👍🏼

Quite a few people have asked me about roof cleaning. I have a A Shaped ladder that I use quite a lot to clean over conservatory. With the elite poles I could probably do a low two story roof clean my standing on this ladder using Spinaclean roof scraper. Have used it to clean my solar panels from standing on this ladder. A customer has said to me your more than welcome to give it a go and their house. Would probably have to use 6 or 7 poles. I don't have ladders that go up to the roof level that's why this idea would be a safer way of doing roof cleaning.

@@aemackintosh thanks, good point. There is quite a lot of flex in those elite poles when doing 4 story buildings. 7.5 poles is about the max.

Hi Ashley, when using the algoclear does it affect the iron on the bottom of the chimney? I know bleach does and I sometimes worry because algoclear or ddac is also a corrosive product. Thx✌️

just found this after cleaning a clay tile roof with 6x 25 kilo bags of lichen from it - with a stiff broom and a wait for it..... stihl air blower...... will look into the organic treatment, is your environmentally sound?

mark quick Usually it’s ok on plastic gutters. But watch out for the metal guttering, you don’t want to touch that! It can very easily get scratched and damaged.👍🏼

I use a laser rangefinder. Shoot a laser beam to the corner, it'll give an exact measurement.

Do you charge for estimates like this? I know most companies, like myself, offer free window cleaning estimates but some do charge for gutter or roofwash estimates. Just curious🤗

Heather The Window Woman No, I don’t charge to do a quote. But recently in some cases I’ve been asking a customer to send me photos so I don’t have to physically visit the property. 😃👍🏼

My prices are very reasonable. This one I cleaned the windows afterwards, so I charged on top for that too. It was easy, done in an afternoon.😃👍🏼

Looking at adding roof scrapping to my business as I've been asked about it a few times.do you do it all from ladders or do you find you need scaffolding etc ?I work alone so safety is massively important to me.

@@aemackintosh I do alot of fascia soffit and gutter replacements and refits so always have scaffolding for that as I work alone so il Def be adding this type of job onto those if the customer wants it done but if it's asked to be done il see how people react to scaff costs. I have thought about getting a mobile tower but some properties are a nightmare for that sort of thing.

Did you say you charge per meter and with the time it takes on top? Oh btw if the gutter has been fitted correctly the clips should be on at 800 not 1m 😀

😉 It’s quite a rough measurement, but it’s good to have some sort of system in place for quoting. If you always use the same system then you can be consistent in your pricing from one job to the next. I now charge a bit more per square meter than what I said in this video!😉👍🏼

Sounds a little high perhaps 🤔 but it’s a tough job. You could get a couple of quotes and they may vary a lot, but you want to get someone that is going to do a good careful job.👍🏼

Not sure, I haven’t done many of those. But the process of measuring always comes across very professional. It will also help you gauge how much chemical you will need, and if you under price, at least you will then have a better idea of how much to charge on the next one.😃👍🏼

I would think I biocide would be good because it actually kills off the spores that cause the green algae to grow. Algo Clear is great for that. You could always give them a call direct, they are very helpful.😃👍🏼
