It's great to see someone use the correct smooth jaw pipe wrench on those, can't tell you how many I've been on where they are chewed to hell from pliers or regular pipe wrenches... Drives me crazy... Good job

Doesn't that just make you cringe!? There's no excuse for it; you're simply just unprofessional if you think it's okay to just wail on finished chrome with a nasty ol' pipe wrench or pliers! The proper wrench is affordable and available. A pair of quality smooth-jaw tongue and groove pliers is a nice addition too!

I just changed 1 yesterday a Sloan low volume roughly $445.00 valve. The 1 I removed was unfrocking believable.. Absolutely ruint and they were only going to charge a grand to come back and install a new one... Kills me. I wish we could share pics on here or if we can tell me how but it'll piss ya off. Nice to know quality is still out there and not too damn lazy to go to the van to get it....

+Danny Harrison It's all a matter of pride. People who do that kind of work treat the trades like a "just a job". and they are generally miserbale and don't take pleasure in making something nice. In fact, it seems these types enjoy being sadistic and intentionally messing things up. I'm certainly not perfect and sometimes I'm not really "allowed" to make it as nice as I'd like; but, I enjoy doing my best. When I made the videos I currently have posted; I was learning on the job; mostly by myself. needless to say, even just a few years later I have a lot to look back and laugh about. On the other hand, there's things that I would say the same way now. i still get people saying they enjoy or find them useful; so I figure there's no reason to take them down for a few silly mistakes...

+Danny Harrison By the way, you can make a quick slideshow with pictures (or video for that matter) using the youtube video editor if you want to show day to day stuff at work. you can make it available for anyone to see or private for only certain people to see...

Yea, I figure there's enough HVAC, elec and Plumbing stuff on here already. I just watch when I have time and comment on pretty much the things I agree with and try really hard not to comment on what I disagree with "lol". Just saying if you agreed that crap I replaced would have just made you shake your head like I did. It's amazing at some of the things we see... A guy I work with has made a few vids may be worth your time to check out. They're pretty funny. it's polishsharpshooter I believe if not I'll find it but pretty funny... Again thanks for caring what goes on out there and good to meet you

Great video. I have done several at my building, and a bunch of toilets. We replaced most of the urinals to Sloan waterless urinals. Those you replace the filter every month. Save lots of water and less clogs. Key is to flush warm water and clean the filter housing every time you replace the filter.

hey thanks for watching! I've never had to deal with those waterless urinals at my buildings yet. it seems like every time i see them, they smell really bad. I'm sure it's because they don't perform that monthly maintenance you mentioned...
@Dan78862

Exactly, key is to change the filter before it starts clogging up.. It has a funky smell when you remove the filter for sure... I think it's burned off plenty of nose hairs...

LOL ammonia is strong stuff! Phosgene from burning refrigerant is a good one too! A noseful of that will put you on your ass quick!

Eek! Daniel, if you have Sloan waterless urinals, you actually don't want to pour water down those units because it removes the gel in the cartridge. Improper or infrequent maintenance leads to the buildup of solids in the urinal, which results in bathroom odor and the cartridge needing to be replaced more frequently than it should need to be replaced.

You put a one inch into a 3/4 stop for urinal? Or did they size that incorrectly?
@71dembonesTV
@71dembonesTV 3 года назад
It is a 1" supply and a 1" stop. This is an older building and 1" was the standard for urinals then

Hi, I replaced the flusher handle mechanism, the vacuum and the diaphragm today. All went well. I learned that the Valve Stop needs to be replaced because the water is constantly running. I live in a co-op building that uses Sloan Flushometer toilet systems. QUESTION Do I have to ask the super to shut the water line off to my apartment from the basement? That is where all the main pipes are to shut off lines. Can I rebuild the Sloan Valve Stop without asking the super to shut down the water? I would appreciate your guidance. Thank you. Must I ask the super to turn off the isolation value? Thanks.

Hi Michelle, thanks for watching! not sure how I missed your comment before. I'm not sure if what your specific limitations are as a tenant. If you know for sure that it only shuts your unit off; it's probably ok. All depends on your landlord, really. In the buildings I work in; tenants are not allowed to do much of anything without the landlord knowing about it and having license/insurance on file for the people performing the work. You will definitely need the incoming water shut off to your fixtures regardless of who is doing this task.

I've had to rebuild so many of sloan value parts, the knipex plier wrench make it an simple job.

KCTech Thanks for watching. Those Sloan valves are a part of commercial buildings restrooms and medical fixtures and they command your attention. If you don't stay after maintaining them; they will remind you they are there! I always recommend using the spud wrench whenever possible but those smooth Knipex pliers are a good choice for any hex fitting, union nut, etc.

Great instructions and now I know a little more. May be you could make a drip pan to catch the water and have an outlet hose into the toilet or urinal. Thanks. 8~>

+q zorn Not a bad idea! It can be a little tricky to find a bucket that will fit behind/around all that business. If i were somewhere other than my own building (where I will just go get the mop afterwards) I would take some precautions like you mentioned. Thanks for watching!

Would that repair kit fix a sloan stop that is leaking at the stop's screw/stem (where you turn with your screwdriver to turn it off/on)? I'm not sure if the water should never get past the black rubber part in the kit and therefore it would fix it or if the problem would be in the brass part that gets reused with this repair kit.Thanks for the video, I've put off repairing some of these stops that down shut off completely, thinking there would be more to it but jeez, there's practically nothing to it!
@71dembonesTV
@71dembonesTV 7 лет назад
Casey Gunter yep, whether it's leaking by or leaking out of the "screw"; this will fix it! that's all there is to it! as long as you have a good water supply shut off that doesn't leak by too much it's a 30 second job. I too struggled with a lot of leaky stops before I learned how easy it was to rebuild em!

Note to self: get scuba snorkel gear and fins ready, check. Wetsuit, check. Sloan stop kit, check. All systems go! LOL. Good video though.

Hi, was wondering my toilet Sloan flush odometer is sweaty and cold to the touch. Also the feeder pipe feels and sounds like their is water running thru it? Is this normal? Thanks anyone

Thanks for watching! I have a few questions in the interest of answering yours: What area do you live in? What kind of building? Is this a new issue that just came up or has this been the norm for a while?

71dembones thanks, not sure if this happen gradually or i just noticed it. This is a 14 unit apartment building build around 1931. It is located in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY
@71dembonesTV
@71dembonesTV 4 года назад
@@Jimfromearthoo7 Hmmm Very strange. I was thinking there's a chance someone hooked your toilet up to the chiller loop (water used for AC). But, the size and age of your building doesn't make it a likely candidate for having a chiller. Water coming from a pipe in the ground should be fairly cold (~55F) and if your apartment it quite warm/humid it may be cold enough to condensate/feel cold to the touch. Usually, the domestic water is not moving at a rate for you to get that coldest possible temp at your fixture. It absorbs heat from the building as it makes it's way thru the buidling piping. Maybe there is something on the same line as your flush valve that is using a huge amount of water? Is it always like that or just sometimes?
