In "Taryl and Jr Meet Uncle Andy", Taryl shows you the ins and outs of Tecumseh carburetors on 2-stage snow blowers. He shows you how to rebuild a 4hp carb and a 10 hp carb, as well as replacing the fuel hoses and adjusting the carb. Prior to the fix, an old friend of Taryl's, Uncle Andy (Not anyone's actual uncle), stops by for a visit. Witness it all here! And There's Your Dinner!!

Thanks, Taryl! My 1982 Ariens Sno Tho (with the 7 HP Tecumish) always started and ran okay, but would occasionally puke gas from the carbatrator. You gave me the confidence to tear into it and find that the carb float was leaking and had gas in it. With a carb kit and a new float, she starts on the first pull and no more leaks! (I even put a new mufkin on while I was working on it.)

Guess who just successfully rehabbed the carburetor on the 5 HP Tecumseh engine on his 1993 TroyBilt snowblower? Me, that's who! This is my second 'win' thanks to Taryl's how-to videos. These are invaluable resources to folks like me who know just enough about stuff like this to be dangerous -- and who thus need a little reliable advice! Thank you SO MUCH for this video.

Thanks Taryl. I've watched many of your videos. They are not only informative but also entertaining. Some people making comments don't seem to have a sense of humor. Don't listen to them. You make repairs fun. With your help I have gotten my lawn tractor running again after it sat dead for 3 years and now I am fixing my snowblower. Keep up the great work!

S.O.S. For Taryl!!! Taryl, everyone appreciates your expansive knowledge about small engines. Your the only tech who actually calls the parts by their respective names, knows each purpose and is top quality all around. Many of us are being scammed by Briggs and Stratton on those Nikki 6 modified carbs without the fuel cellanoid. The ones used in snowblowers! I know here our main small engine shop claims they are not rebuildable because they leak! Even the plastic inner body piece holding the float and pin is like 100 Canadian dollars for a 1cent part!!! I bought an Amazon rebuild kit with this part and many others to rebuild it. Can you make an episode and show us how exactly so we don’t have to worry about leakage once we install it. Many thanks...

I spent 37 minutes of my Saturday night watching this. The amazing part was that I was riveted to the video the entire 37 minutes!!! It was more educational and entertaining than the majority of movies I could have been watching on the latest streaming platform! Jam packed with little tidbits only a true professional would know, along with a healthy dose of humor! I'll never be intimidated by a carbertraitor again! And there's your dinner! :-)

Hi Taryl. Thank you for.your informative videos. You are both a skilled technician and a comedic genius! My 3.5 tecumseh roto tiller engine’s throttle would flutter and hunt for fuel even though I cleaned the carb five times, so after watching one of your videos, I pulled out the brass low speed idle jet and found that I couldn’t get an eighteen thousandths (.018) piece of bread tie wire through it, so I then drilled it out with a twenty two thousandths (.022) drill that I spun by hand with my pin vice and wala, the drill poked through. I put the carb back together and installed it and now my tecumseh runs like new! No throttle flutter and a smooth idle to boot. You are the coolest dude on the net for engines!!! Thanks again!!!

I have watched a lot of videos on cleaning carburetors and your video is the only one to address my problem. When I got the snowblower I noticed the low speed needle was marred up a bit on the end. I cleaned the carb and it ran good wide open, but it wouldn't idle. I had a sneaking suspicion the carb was hooped after seeing the end of the needle, but now I know that I need a new carbutrator, because my tube doesn't go up and down (near enough, haha!). Next time I will search for "carbutrators". You really know your carbutrators. Thanks.

These videos be very entertaining! I watched your video and I learned a lot about these 516 carbatraitors, enough that I decided to just buy a knockoff Chinese carbatraitor on eBay for $15 & 20 min to swap it out and it's getting the job done. I still have the old one and if I ever have the time to rebuild it to keep my old snowblower matching #s I will... At least I know how to tune them based on what I learned from your video....and there's your dinner! Classic!

This is by far the best "Tecumehs" winter engine carburetor rebuild/cleaning video I have watched and I have watched 20 or 30 in the last few years on youtube a lot of the other videos were also from people who do this for a living, so that really is saying something. I work on carbs all the time and even I get leary about pulling O-rings, although most have brass tube's. I must need a more powerful compressor because my needle seat doesn't blow out. I'm gonna have to get that tool, I work on a lot of Tec carbs and I need to be able to pull that seat and be able to properly put the new one in. But anyway this video was thorough it covered every piece of a carb rebuild on one of them. Things like that brass tube getting crushed, had no clue. Really, really well done. I don't know how anyone could not like this video, you would have to be a moron or one of the other people with carb repair videos that just got showed up with their dinner on a plate. I just rebuilt one yesterday, yes in late June, why? Because I went and picked up a snowblower dirt cheap that had a 10hp Tecumehs and that bad boy is going on my Snapper 8/24 this winter. Its going to be a bad ass 10/24 which no one ever made stock. I need it ready I use it commercially 90-100 hours a winter easy. The 8 was a good engine and had good power but its getting tired from the 1000 hours on it by now easy. This new/old engine ran kinda crappy when I got it, opened the carb, gum deposit's, stale fuel, bad o rings on the nozzle and a float that was set down to China. I just repaired that carb the best I ever repaired one and now that engine purrs like a kitten. Now all I have to do in the fall is pull the old one and throw the new one on done. Go blow snow and make the big bucks. Anyway enough rambling, theeeee best carb repair video on youtube, by far, well done and it comes with laughs and theirs a ton of other great videos on this channel. Best one out their. I might need to get me one of those spark plug necklaces, I think I earned it now!

Hey guys, I wanted to say thank you for putting these videos together and letting those of us who are interested benefit from your years of experience. I just finished a log splitter, (sorely needed and gratuitously given to me) and as usual I do first then learn how to do what I just did. Allow me to share with you, I needed to swap out the plastic governor gear and the shaft was a press fit. I'm quite proud of the trick I figured out. After measuring very carefully I drilled a hole in the case just big enough to get a small blind punch in there and presto, or more accurately, bango. I hammered the shaft out, put the new gearand on and tapped it back in. I did find a " small engine specialist" telling someone to use vice grips and "twist" the shaft out on a website. I can't see anything good coming from that advice. As always thanks, and there's your dinner!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - and entertaining too, perfect for DIYer like me who knows just enough to screw things up. I have a 20ish year old Toro that hadn’t run in a long time, needed attention. I’m in a technical field, arrogantly thought that a simple “tune-up” was something any simpleton could do without any instructions. Yeah. That was in 2015 and the ****ing thing hadn’t run right since...surging, stalled under load, backfiring, you name it. This video covers everything I needed to know, now I’m launching snow across the street like a champion. (In my case, I had damaged the needle seat, not cleaned the jets properly, and smushed an o ring on the emulsion tube. Result was leaky carb, surging, only running on full choke and dogging out under anything more than a light load. Now it runs like a champion. Thanks!

I always used to have bad luck with these Tecscrumshen carbs. Now I learned a few things I didn't know before, like that tube that goes up and down. What in the world does that do? Thanks for taking out the time to show us how and including all the part numbers. It takes some of the work outta doin work. Much appreciated. ;) ...and there's YOUR dinner.
@TarylFixesAll
@TarylFixesAll 8 лет назад
+Jon Myers That tube is for the low speed circuit on the carb. and it shifts when you go from high speed to idle. If it becomes stuck its not able to shift causing the carb not to idle. & I've seen where someone not realizing that tube is in there screw the needle in with the carb flipped over and damage the tube resulting in no low speed idle. U can tell by the tip of the needle being damaged.
@jonmyers8046

+Taryl Fixes All LLC Thanks for that bit of wisdom. In the past I have encountered these carbs where I could adjust high mix, but not the low, and vice versa. Or I could actually adjust high mixture using the low mixture screw. Found it so frustrating that I had to be put on medication, so I always tended to keep my distance from this particular design. Chances are that tube was stuck or damaged. I may still have that carb laying around, so I might try doing some surgery on it sometime just to check it out and see if it is possible to repair. Thanks again for your time. :)
@TarylFixesAll
@TarylFixesAll 8 лет назад
Sometimes after soaking the carb. the tube would still be stuck. So to free up that tube I would spray WD 40 in the hole & then heat the area wear the tube is with a propane torch a little bit, blow it out.try it, spray it heat it a few more times & after a while get lucky & then get it to move freely.

+Taryl Fixes All LLC I just happened to come across one of those carbs I had sitting around, pulled out the mixture screw, and saw the pin you were talking about. Pretty cool. Toro sold a lot of them. I still see them advertised for sale on Craigslist here. I use one it is 40 years old and still runs well after I rebuilt the carburetor a few years ago. Very little surface rust and the auger mechanism shows little wear. I fixed a couple of bent spots on one of the augers and have new shear bolts on order. Toro built these machines to work hard and last!

Hi Taryl. I have a Craftsman 179cc snowblower with a Tecumseh engine ZS365-SUA. Unit Model # 31AM32AD77, Serial # 1F258B40634, Craftsman #247.887550. It's an MTD Product. Carb # 751-10974, I put the carb through the ultra sonic cleaner several times, I also hand drilled the low speed jet to the next size. New plug, filter, Etc.. nothing leaking. Note: the unit had been left outside. I had a lot of sanding with my wire brush on my drill to do in-order to get all the linkages cleaned and rust free. All is working fine now except I'm getting surging after the engine has been running a bit. I apply the choke and the surging seem to stop. That's why I cleaned the low speed jet as per your video. I DID NOTICE WHEN ALL IS SET TO NORMAL, RUNNING FULL SPEED, AND IT STARTS TO SURGE, WHEN I REMOVE THE GAS CAP IT STOPS SURGING. Gas Cap Bad? Thanks, John

+John Ambrosino Sounds like it. Cap needs to vent to allow the fuel to flow, when the venting is restricted or blocked it will be air bound and run out of gas. Think of it this way when you put a straw in a glass of water and put yur finger over the end you can pull the straw out of the glass and the water will stay in the straw until you take yur finger off. Same principle applies to the gas tank. New cap or drill a teeny tiny hole in it.

If you lay that Tecumsea tool on its flat side..( the handle) should be the proper bowl adjustment ( distance) I think..If im not mistaken. Great video !!!
