In this video we show you how you can use data recovery software to retrieve your files if you've formatted your hard drive.
The first and most important step, is to stop using the hard drive completely. You don't want to do anything that may risk writing additional data to the hard disk.
In most cases a hard drive that has been formatted can be recovered. You may have some files that are fragmented here and there, but for the most the data should still be recoverable.
When you delete a file or format a hard drive, the data is still there, but the operating sees the sectors as being empty. As soon as you overwrite the sectors, the data that was there before is gone for good.
It should be noted that data recovery software will not help you in situations where the hard drive has a physical problem. If the drive is clicking or not recognized by the system it is attached to, that is a more serious problem that will need to be handled by a data recovery company.
Additionally, if the hard drive has corruption within the firmware or system area, that will also need to be handled by a data recovery company.

ACS Data Recovery What are the odds of recovering data from my formatted drive? 1: used the new bitlocker encryption. 2: accidentally formatted it. 3: used bitlocker on it again and transferred other files.

Hey there I have a pretty simple but imported question. I used Usease to locate the lost files on my formated hard disk, which were over 900 gb. After the scanning was done it had found over 2100 gb of data, which frankly I dont understand. But to make matters worse is that all photos and videos which were organised by year and events in that particular year, are now altogether in one a few different folders. Is there a fix for this or does this change one i recover it to a fresh new drive? Would this be the same with the software from rstudios? Im asking this because I am most definetly not looking forward towards speding over 30 hours into organizing photos into the right year, and then events in that year. I hope to hear back from you soon Thanks in advance.

Hi. Thanks for the amazing content that you are making. I have a 1TB western digital hard that has a head problem due to falling and a recovery company changed it's heads and said head swapping was not successful and it's data was not recoverable, can I do anything else or is there any hope that a second change of heads by someone skillful like you help recover my most valuable data? You're answer will help a person in need a lot and bring back hope to several families. I'm waiting for your answer. thank you.

What's your opinion on testdisk and photorec? R-Studio is much better than testdisk, but when it comes to file carving I've had better results with photorec so far. And what do you think about ddrescue? As I'm just a nerd who can't afford expensive hardware imagers ddrescue has been the best tool I found so far to image physically damaged drives (of course I only play with drives nobody needs anymore)

Can't really offer a valid opinion on them, because we don't use either of those. RStudio can interface with our Deepspar imagers, so that is why we have that in-house as an option we use.

I accidently formatted an external hard drive with digital images & video footage. Is this possible to recover this data.
@acsdata

It depends on a couple of things...what file system was being used, the type of format that was done, and whether anything was overwritten. As long as the sectors were not overwritten, most of the data should be recoverable.

As long as nothing else has been written to it, I would definitely give a software program like R-studio a chance and see. You may have some files that are permanently lost, but most of them should be ok still.

Overwriting the sectors multiple times really is considered overkill, as single-pass overwriting is considered sufficient, .... but then we will never know for sure. It would be a shock, if someday the Great Zero Challenge were ever completed.

In the past I used Recuva software since it's free. It saved my butt on few occasions.

I've heard of people having decent results with that. RStudio though is probably the most robust software available to home users. It even interfaces to our Deepspar imagers.

I still regret that I had only 3 instances of my files. Once I got unlucky enough (due to an extremely unusual situation) to lose all 3 copies of some of my files - a triple failure. I didn't buy 4th drive or 5th drive. Stupid cost-saving measure .. !

Depending on the format process, as long as nothing else has been written to the drive since then, it may still be.

I'd recommend doing it from Linux where you can mount the drive read-only.
@rudijuniussen487
@rudijuniussen487 4 года назад
Not really. You must explicitly disable the auto-mount features. The average GNU/Linux distros will upon mounting modify the filesystem metadata. Moreover, apparently for some filesystems "readonly" does not mean readonly - Blame the devs. In case of BTRFS, "nologreplay" is also necessary, and without this flag the filesystem might still get modified despite "ro"-flag.

NOOB QUESTION - action required I have made a few mistakes in a row. And know how noobish i been. Do not have any backup on data. Plus had my panic moment, thou this is a Level 3-5 recovery. And started my Operation without cloning. - 1.While trying to install new Ubuntu on freshly connected SSD, quick formated my HDD(previously Ubuntu) - 2.Then re-partitioned it (plus made it bootable(what adds 255 MB to disk)) - 3. After that using TESTDISK try to analyse and get the HDD back to 1 peace. -4. Now HDD shows as 100% free, but FileSystem partition 1 (255MB)[EXT2], Partition 2 (2,1MB) [LUKS] Just want to hear from an expert that i still got a chance, if so, what steps should i take. As i think that (Bit MAP) plus rearranging BLOCKS. I now prefer to figure out a safe and correct way to recover my files. Thank You!
