Greetings from the UK! Happened to come across this video whilst researching for building a DIY Pool table. So glad i did . This guy makes a highly skilled job look effortless. Could watch him for hours. Quite mesmerising with the music 👍🏻

Thanks for the video great work lots of great tips I'll be sure top use at work I've never seen the staples all the way down the side of the rail I've always done 4 or 6 to keep the cushion down on either side

@@therealkingcobra: I respect that you call that guy out, rather than remove comment. I do prefer to stretch the fabric a little more, and one staple was too close to edge of facing. Overall, LOOK NICE 👍.

Watching your great videos and for someone like me, I could understand it better if you made a video with a mirror image. Just like you see it I think it easier to do. Just my opinion. I love the glue on rail method lots better than all those staples. Thanks Cobra!

Very nice! Thank you so much for this info. Would you stretch the cloth more if it were something like Championship Tour Edition?
@therealkingcobra
@therealkingcobra Год назад
Yes, all cloths have different stretch indexes, based on the making of the cloth. So the first time you use a petiqular cloth, you need to perform a stetch index test so you'll k ow how much to stretch it when installing it.

Yup. That's what I'm here for as well. Still trying to perfectly fold and de-bulk the Valley style rails. I like how this guy put a staple to lock the fold in place, then cover the staple with the flap.

Nice shirt! We met at Brothers when John Schmidt was in Billings, staying with me. Question for you. My 7ft Diamond rails make noise when I hit hard. SVB hit balls and said I needed new rails. The table is only 7 years old,is it possible they need replaced? Is there a way to tighten? Maybe I can send you a video and you can see what I am talking about

Glen, It looks like your spraying the Super 77 on both the cloth and the rail and then letting it set up almost like a contact cement is that what your doing or does it just seem like your waiting a long time to adhere them to each other on tv? thanks

Everyone say don’t fold pockets. But. It makes sense to fold
@therealkingcobra
@therealkingcobra Год назад
I don't like the no fold side pockets because of the effect it has on the pocket miter angle, and the stress it puts the cloth under on the points of the cushions. All featherstriped rails have folded side pockets, so why would anyone think Valley bar tables shouldn't? And think about this for a second, what tables have the worst reputation for playing so bad? Valley bar style pool tables, why? Because of the lack of professionalism when servicing them, because they're considered to be unimportant in this industry!!!!

I use the 3M77 for the rails and my RKC250/Slocum V4117 for the bed cloth, cushions, and facings.

What do you prefer better Ridge backgrounds or the penguin rails and also what brand the cloth did you install And I also have seen a lot of videos with guys stapling the rails do you preferred gluing over stapling
@therealkingcobra
@therealkingcobra 9 месяцев назад
Well, first of all, I'm the one that actually designed the Ridgeback rails in the first place, then taught Kerry how to build them, creating the Ridgeback rails business. Penguin rails have come a long way since they first started building replacement rails, so I don't have any issues with them today either. The problem with either rails, is neither will play right if the cloth isn't installed right, and the slate depth isn't set right, so the rails CAN play right. I've been spray glueing rails for 40+ years, and fail to see a downside to that method if installing the rail cloth, but I've seen plenty of problems with using staples to install the rail cloth. My method of instalation of the rail cloth would be hard for anyone to do a better job, and the finished look shows that.
@therealkingcobra
@therealkingcobra 9 месяцев назад
The cloth I installed was the Strachan Superweave green. This is absolutely, hands down, the best bar table cloth on the market today. I just replaced the cloth on 3 Diamond 8ft bar tables after 14 months of play, and the cloth still didn't show any cue ball break lines to the rack, and now ball racking wear.

Guys in pool leagues would tear me(and the cusions) apart if I used that fold over method on the coner pocket ends of the rails. It looks nice and neat but it adds 2 layers(3 total) of cloth on that side which will effect the balls differently than on the other ends of the rails. You have to work the cloth with folds and often times pleats. Staple as you go to hold it. There is a balance between too tight and not tight enough to help prevent early wear on the "points" that he shows but if you take your time and do it right, the better players will appreciate it.
@therealkingcobra
@therealkingcobra Год назад
Yet they don't complain about the folds in the side pockets on a featherstriped set of rails, like on a 9ft😅🤣
@gosnellktn
@gosnellktn 10 месяцев назад
valley doesn't sell tables with folded side pockets, ever wonder why? my take is if you are going to do a fold over, make it look good. great tutorial. diamond tables do folded side pockets. your league players sound like mine. they always blame the table for their missed shots.

Do the work however you want, but I don't like how the no fold rounds the side pockets, and the facings wear through the points because of the no fold method, so hack away buddy😅🤣
@addy19216811
@addy19216811 10 месяцев назад
@@therealkingcobra I wasn't looking to make a thing of this, Buddy, but when I do rails I do them with out needing that dumb fold and this "wear" that you are trying to sell simply does not happen with the way I do them. Maybe just try a little instead of taking the easy way out.

@therealkingcobra

1/4" × 1/2" crown, unless the wood is pretty stapled out, then I step up to either 5/16" or 3/8" if needed, but the next recovery is with new replacement rails at that time, or get someone else to recover the table!!
