In AZ I had to get a level 1 inspection through the local MVD. Mine is an '89, and being it's over the 25 year mark they signed off right away. Being I didn't want to wait in line there (usually a 2+ hour wait,) I took the inspection form, SF-97, & bill of sale to 3rd party titling company. They issued me a title & plates within 30 minutes. AllState Insured it, no questions asked. All that said, MVD required it to be registered as a commercial vehicle & AllState required it to be insured commercially due to it's size/weight.
Cottonwood office. The 3rd Party vendor was Foote Works. Added note, the 3rd party vendor claimed I needed a level 2 inspection being there was only one location on the vehicle for a serial/VIN number. When I took it to DMV in Cottonwood for a level 2 inspection, they said I only needed a level 1 and completed it right there. Took that paperwork to 3rd Party vendor & they finished the rest. It was titled that day.
My SF-97 did say for off-road use only. Cottonwood MVD didn't care. Their stance was that it was up to the owner to make the vehicle street-legal. 3rd party vendor felt the same way. I'm working on making it street legal as we speak. But that wasn't a requirement to get it titled.
I'm also in Ohio and looking to buy a surplus HMMWV. I'm watching a few different auctions coming up. Just so I'm clear I transfer it as an off-road vehicle then fill out the affidavit to make it a pickup truck. Thanks again for the information. I'm looking forward to the fun about to happen.

AM GENERAL even says these are not highway legal. These have not been crash tested and do not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards (fvmss). This is why they do not have conforming 17 digit vin numbers . As required for all on Highway vehicles 1981 and newer. Just because you got a license plate and fooled your Dmv employee doesn’t make it legal to drive in the road. Be careful

Let's just say any military vehicle you buy, you dump boat load money in, I have humvee,duece and half, 5 ton, and cucv blazer, I've dumped a bunch money into, this isn't a cheap hobby.
What gets me is 1 you bought it its ur money do what u want with it. 2 the dam police depts have them and run them on the roads also so don't military convoys all the time. 3 if it meets the requirements for road use why not allow them on the road.
I have a HMWWV titled as off road in California. Is there a way to register it for on road in Ohio without having the vehicle physically present? Do you know anyone that can do it for a fee? Appreciate any help.

They just use the serial number that's on that data plate, my m925 5 tons, m109 duece and half, m1009 cucv blazer m1123 hmmwv they used serial number on data plates for all of them.
Hello, did you have any trouble insuring it? I called Progressive (my insurance) and was told they wont insure anything over 1 ton...The HMMWV tag says 1 1/4 ton. I asked if they will insure an H1 and she said yes. Did you have any trouble with insurance?.
We used veritread and had a great experience. Key tip: don't bid your veritread until you have your EUC cleared. The delivery truck even had a huge American flag and bald eagle on it. #Bonus
Matt, mine is insured through AllState. No issues. Here in AZ, it needed to be titled as a commercial vehicle being it can haul over 1 ton. As such, AllState insured it as a commercial vehicle with full coverage. Total is under $400/yr.

I'd suggest 1.) trying to get the bmv to transfer your Florida title directly into a road legal title. 2.) If they won't, ask them about the process of getting a body code change. Don't take everything they say as gospel!
Joey George Make your own affidavit. The state has their own, but anyone can make their own to suit their needs. If, after 30 days the affidavit goes unchallenged, it stands as truth and becomes law. So my suggestion is to file a freedom from registration affidavit based on over 100 federal cases and the fact that no state ever held the allodial title to your hummvee. Its yours!
Less hassle for a deuce because they weren't sold as off-road only. The deal with the Humvees was that the federal government did not want people to be able to drive them on the road at all so they issued them with off-road only paperwork, but there are many loopholes and they differ state by state
I didn't and don't know. In fact buying and fixing military Humvees is not that great as far as making money unless you are getting the vehicle for your own use. Apparently this man did that and got away with it.

You should have filed an affidavit stating your vehicle is EXEMPT from registration. Since you gave up your allodial title, you are now screwed. I would never give my vehicle over to the state if they never had the title in the first place. Know your rights. over 100 federal cases in my favor.
