Learn how to relieve knee pain with one simple Tai Chi and Qigong exercise; Create Song in your joints, build Qi and Get rid of Your knee pain.
Tai Chi and Qigong are an incredibly powerful exercise for decreasing knee pain whether your knee pain is knee arthritis, an acute knee injury, or a chronic knee injury. By engaging in this simple Tai Chi and Qigong exercise, you will “song” the joints which is a Chinese medicine technique for opening your knee joint and all joints in your body for improved body mechanics, a gentle and subtle knee stretch, and to increase the flow of Qi, which is life energy and has healing properties. This technique to relieve knee pain is unique and is not the usual treatment you would receive in physical therapy. While Susan Thompson is an Occupational Therapist, she takes a different approach to bringing about healing in your body. This Qigong and Tai Chi exercise is mostly using your mind instead of a physical therapy exercise or overt stretch for the knee.
You can do this exercise for knee pain at home, or anywhere. Even standing in line somewhere! If you want one simple knee pain remedy, this simple Tai Chi and Qigong exercise can and will help to relieve your pain and can be done for any joint pain in your body, whether arthritis or injury related. Creating Song in the joints is one of many Tai Chi benefits. Do this Tai Chi and Qigong “song” exercise a few seconds a day. Do not be mislead by its simplicity! Circulate your Qi energy and begin healing today!

I love you and your channel for taking the time to explain Tia Chi in a simple language that makes sense to the average person like me because most of my life I have practised hard exercises and now with age I have injuries and pain so with your instruction I am learning how to use my body properly with ease and the pains are disappearing. Thanks

Susan, I am so happy to be able to find your channel. Thank you so much for your kind teaching. I have been practising Tai Chi just by watching the youtube videos from different teachers and therefore I am not getting the fundamental. I feel that I have used too much hard strength on my right knee when shifting weight. Hence, I felt some stinging pain some time if I move slowly by stepping with my right leg. If you could make a video on things that most people make mistakes in when learning Tai Chi, that would be very helpful. Thank you.

You read my mind! I actually just outlined a video on that very topic. I will push that video creation to the front of the line. I just made a video on how to Song the spine which will also help to lighten the load on your knee during Tai chi. I am posting that on Sunday. Thank you for your wonderful feedback. I'm glad that my teaching is helping and that I am reaching people on many levels.

Thank you for this lesson which will be helpful to two of my friends who have knee pain!! How to increase the mobility range of frozen shoulder joint due to stroke?
@InternalTaiChi
@InternalTaiChi 29 дней назад
Frozen shoulder is a complex condition. In fact, I had frozen left shoulder about three years ago. I used the Qigong movement in the video below to rehabilitate my shoulder, gently, slowly. I now have full range of motion and strength in that shoulder. I also did gentle external rotation movement, first passive range of movement, then active assist, then gradually over the weeks added a bit of isometric resistance. Finally, I was able to add gentle moving resistance. Eventually it resolved. I suggest you look at my Shoulder series videos, and also the Qigong movement in the video: (even though it says Sciatica pain, it is great for shoulder too). Thank you for the feedback. I agree that graphics would help. I definitely will do that next time. I have a video on songing the spine, which is the same technique as this video for the knee. I do have graphics, arrows, visualizations in that video. Don't know why I didn't do it for the knee one. I will next time. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for your wonderful video! As a fellow OT and qigong/ tai chi practitioner, your exercise for using the mind to guide Qi for healing pain at the knee and other leg joints is a great practical application. Plus I found the graphics helpful. The healing powers of the mind and Qi focused together can become like a gift available to anyone interested in learning through repeated practice. For those not familiar with internal energy, I wonder if additional information about Qi / Chi and breathing might enhance others' understanding? Namaste!

Thanks for watching and for your comment/insight. I have other videos on Qi (There is one called, "Is Qi Real") on my RU-vid channel. In my practice we do not focus on the breath because it disrupts the flow. If everything is settled in correctly, the breath will do what it needs to flow the Qi naturally.

Hello teacher. Your videos are very useful.. if cartilage is used up. Can tai chi regenerate it
@InternalTaiChi
@InternalTaiChi 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for your positive feedback. It is my personal belief that tai chi will not regenerate your cartilage. It will, however, reduce or erase your pain and perhaps, delay your need for surgery in the future.

Dear Susan, so rarely do teachers teach this. Thank you. I want to ask, can you teach a tai chi exercise for the brain and eyes? Specifically related to brain trauma from emotional abuse that is affecting eye and also anxiety present? It’s an odd question, but I feel tai chi at more advanced levels can address more subtle things?
@InternalTaiChi

Please refer to my email to you regarding doing any energy work at the head level. My recommendation is to not focus on the head.

Today, after practising my daily sitting meditation on the breath in the morning for about an hour, I always feel some pain on my knee. I tried this technique and directing my mind to the knee and imagining that the knee is expanding. I was amazed, not only that the pain gradually disappeared, my mind was actually expanding at the same time and naturally my hands and chest were opening up as well. I rested in that state for about 10 min and then I contracted the energy back to the Dan Tian, slowly, I felt the pain from the knee returning. Do you know of a technique to elevate pain from the knee after a long duration of seating meditation cause I still would like to continue with my meditation subject?
@InternalTaiChi
@InternalTaiChi Год назад
I would like to suggest that you consider “more is not more.” First, the fact that you felt the expansion naturally going to other body parts is FANTASTIC! Don’t draw it back! No need to contract it back to the Dan Tian. Let it expand, then to transition, allow yourself to release from it, or float in it, but do not draw it back. I am still learning, but my Master said we are ALWAYS expanding, never contracting. If you feel the need to draw back to the Dan Tian, then at the same time, feel as if your body is inflating to balance out the contraction or I prefer “condensing.” When you only draw it back, you take away the balance and the energy from the very place it needs to go. Trust the energy. Let it do what it needs to do and do not try to control it. When you open your knee as I instructed in the video, you are simply making space for the Qi energy to flow. It will go there if it needs. Otherwise, do not direct it. Finally, energy does not need TIME to do it’s job. We try to impose time on it, by saying…”Oh I am going to meditate for one hour a day.” What is one hour to energy? I have done a recent healing in 10 seconds. TRUST IT. Let it guide you rather than you guide it. You maintain the effect (alleviated knee pain) by periodically going to the area and simply “songing” it. You can do this while seated, standing, cooking, doing laundry, watching TV….whatever. Allow it to become a short intermittent practice interspersed throughout your day. As soon as we try to formalize it with a set period of time, it can become allusive. Gosh…I hope this all helps. In summary, less meditation time, more integration during the day, and do not set a time expectation on your meditation. Qi does not know time! :-).

@@InternalTaiChi Susan, first, I would first like to say thank you for the lengthy, detailed and heartfelt explanation. Belief me, it helps a lot. I sometimes feel that you could feel what I am going through. I totally agree with you that more is not more. The way you explain it to me is like what my friend said, let it free fall. Don‘t control the meditation. That is something that I am still learning. I will practise the way that you had mentioned in the summary. It could be I am sometime giving myself too much stress by reflecting on death in the early morning. Thank you so much for your help.
@InternalTaiChi
@InternalTaiChi Год назад
@@pkchan888 Start each morning with this. If you are a Christian, say it as a prayer. If not, say it anyway. Out loud. "Show me this day, Your lovingkindness. Bring light to me. Take my hand and show me the way in which You want me to go." This will break the habit of your morning dark thoughts. It is simple, but it really does work. When I feel dark thoughts start to infringe, I say that...and I let it go. Then when I reflect on my day at the end of the day, I am surprised to find that my day went better than expected. Float in the light my friend. Float in the light. It is there even if you only see dark.

I'd love to hear about how to song the body with artificial joints, like knees or hips.

@@asingingtree the technique is the same. However I would add enveloping the soft tissue around the artificial joints in expansion. This will improve blood flow. 👍

What if we've had knee replacement surgery but still feel pain above the knee?

Just in case your knee with the Qi. Like a womb. Infuse the soft tissue all around the "hardware" with Qi to relieve the pain.

You will have to listen and understand my words to understand this video. This is an internal practice, not an external one. There is no force or stretch. The "exercise" is done via mental imagery. Give it a try. It works.
