Great job! I've done a few of these and they are always a challenge. First one I did I thought the pipe was In enough and I was roughing in a whole bathroom and didn't realize it slowly squirted out on me. Lucky I realized it and from then on I make sure these are always in all the way til it grabs good.

That's how it's supposed to be done! Whenever possible, I use a car jack to push the pipe home.

Damn, my cast iron hub opening (for my toilet) is slightly bigger and the same fernco donut (44U-405) slides entirely inside of the CI hub. In other words, the inside diameter of the CI hub is larger than the outside diameter of the donut. Any suggestions as to how I can make this a water tight seal?

Any special type of grease I’m supposed to be using when inserting the pvc?

Eduardo any pipe lube would work, we used silicone because it’s all we had with us at the time. Fernco advised mild dishwashing soap like dawn. The neoprene gaskets are very chemical resistant.

@@plumb4uplusmorellc533 thanks man. This video helped a lot. The only video I’ve seen so far about these kind of joints. I see why it’s a rare skill. Almost everyone makes videos about switching to pvc but just using clamps like no one has the balls to tackle an actual cast iron led joint.

Well, I watched Part 1 all the way through hoping to see this thing finished. I guess between Parts 1 and 2 something got left out. But I got the idea.

I’m sorry for that Scoop. We’re new to RU-vid and trying learn to improve video content and quality. Better camera gear, editing software, etc. It turns out that stuff is way more complicated than a plumber expected. Thanks for the feedback!!

@@plumb4uplusmorellc533 13AUG2020 - I totally understand. I've been blasting out my old kitchen in a 45-year-old condo I just bought and ran into an old cast iron drain stub sticking through the slab for the kitchen sink. It was also rubbing against a 3/4" copper supply line. The iron was abandoned and I wanted it out of the way even though it was inside the wall behind the kitchen sink. I used your method. Snapped a 1/4" bit off first thing. It "screwed" into the lead and locked up, too much down pressure on my end. Short story, I drilled all the way around and dug out what lead I could, removed the fitting sticking up, broke off the stub flush with the slab, and stuffed the old drain with a generous handful of pink fiberglass. Before I wall it up I'll either cap it with some left over brick mortar or plug it with Great Stuff. Hats off to you and your wingman for taking the time to show an old dog a new trick. Stay safe.

@FF Photo Op Thanks for the feedback! We actually still lead a fair bit of joints around here in commercial settings (mainly closet flanges and mop sinks). We can still buy lead, white and brown oakum in that supply houses. I haven’t tried what you mentioned with ABS but I have leaded in pvc on a mop sink. Shove a test ball in the drain fill the pipe with water and go to town it works great. I wouldn’t try it with foam core but for solid core pipe it works well.

Thanks to all who’ve watched and commented on our videos. For some reason Google has terminated our station for a severe violation. We have no idea what this violation is and they won’t tell us what it is. We’re trying to figure out how to work around it now. We appealed and got denied again. I apologize to all those who like and learn from our videos.

I Just did this, took about 8 - 12 hours, 6-8 broken drill bits. Thank god it was a copper pipe in a cast iron T. I ended up snapping bits off, and the final 1/3 came out as one bit. Now I am going to lie down.
@plumb4uplusmorellc533
@plumb4uplusmorellc533 3 года назад
Kevin it sounds like you really had to work for that one!! The key to not breaking drill bits is not driving them in too deep where the end of the drill bit gets caught between the hub and the pipe but I’m sure you know that by now...great job get you some rest!!
