I'm 77 yrs old, 5 ft tall and not in the best physical shape but I got it and wanted to shoot whoever invented this beast. But the video really helped and the light is shining.

I had one that was stuck really bad. The previous residents probably never removed this light fixture. I took a rubber mallet and gently tapped around the sides. And it came out very easy after that. Rubber mallets are good in this situation.

8inch spares on Amazon for 15$ ended up just smashing mine, and bought another. Who ever built this 1,000 years of bad luck upon your family.

Depending on your fixture, you may have to turn the glass clockwise. I tried counterclockwise and it won’t budge. After much frustration, I happen to try clockwise and it dropped in my hand without much effort. I took it off and put it back on several times, it sure needed a small twist clockwise to pop it out.

My wife wanted to make sure I thanked you. This worked like a charm. We used the Yellow rubber gloves. The dome light would simply not come off until we used your advice. 👍🏽👍🏽

Unfortunately I could not remove mine with the rubber gloves... it was on too tight. What I did was get my rubber ball-peen hammer and tapped on the metal ring around the glass globe. Don't tap too hard because this could dent the ring. Next, I hit the globe with glancing but strong taps in a counter-clockwise manner. Yes, it made black marks (a white rubber ball-peen hammer would be best) on the globe but these can be removed with glass cleaner. Success! It loosened the globe and I was able to remove it and clean the inside and change the bulbs to LED.

Just what I needed. I’ve been trying to get this hateful thing off for quite a while! A pair of rubber gloves, a rubber mallet, and a quarter-twist set it free. I have light, again! 💡 Mind you, a very light tap with the rubber mallet! 😆

lol, I just broke my light from twisting the wires up too much

i didn't have any luck with rubber gloves, instead i loosened the fitting with WD-40, then taped around the glass cover and pulled on the tape to increase my torque moment arm. that did the trick

Really a good video. Your video inspired me to do it myself and I did it. In my case, I helped myself with a long ladder so that I am comfortable in removing it. I had to try it few times before I was successful. I did not have any rubber glove so I used my bare hands, but, I made sure that my hands were dry and the glass lid was also dry

This video is so helpful. I’ll tell you DO NOT accidentally screw off the base as it’s held on by two screws and covered in surprise fiberglass that will shed as you sweat trying to get it back on. Bad day 😂

The trick is to first push it in before rotating it counter clockwise.

Accidnetly turned to hard and ripped it out of the ceiling

mine is different. I have to use a screwdriver to telease the base. it comes down a few inches on clamps giving enough room to replace the bulb. I just took a picture on iphone for next time.

These truthfully are just a pain in the rump. You may end up having to touch up the circumference of the ring when installing a ceiling fan with some touch up paint. And if you're having a really hard time twisting the glass insert even with rubber gloves? Try a rubber hammer on the ring but only lightly tap it.

just remember NOT to tighten it too hard... the glass is not available for replacement. so, it you break the glass, you'll have to replace the whole fixture.

I tried to open the cover by turning clockwise and the whole fixative moved. Thanks to your helpful video and several minutes of twisting and turning, the glass cover finally came off. Now I can go to the next step!

Very weird story but I have tarantulas and so I have to keep feeder crickets, and one of those mfs escaped and somehow ended up in one of these. I can see the little guy crawling around up in there so I’m tryna figure out how to get to him

I have to say it is a really stupid design. My dome light is twice as big as this one, it is impossible to grab even with the rubber glove.

thx for posting this, I came looking for wtf i can't get now 2 off. Didn't think of the gloves, ill try that this afternoon. 2 questions tho: 1) if we still can get it off, can I spray some oil? I hate wd40 for stuff like this so baby oil work? Or heat it up w hairdryer? and can we rub it down w baby oil for next time? both the 2 i never use so long time not undone & it always makes things harder. 2) The 1 bottom my stare is small & I see its kinds brown from too hot for higher old bulb on too long so now I want to switch it to the new plastic bulb that 100 over 60/75, for it doesn't hot & wint burn it brown so won't fear fore plus they brighter & in full underground basement, needs brighter light! I put in the new bulb but it doesn't work in it? I tried 3 & none work but regular does? My ex put a dimme4 switch on it cuz its part of the family room in basement & he hated the bright light in the eve. So im guessing its the dimmer switch cuz I have 6 of these & the 1 replace in main floor hal works fine. So what kind new bulb do I need in a dimmer switch light? A solid 100? or a 30/60/90 type adjustable bulb that adjusts? Any help w this part of these now nightmare lights since I became single, much appreciated!!

OMG, I have these crappy light domes. Thanks for the confirmation of what I had suspected but didn't want to force it and break anything. Going to now give it more muscle to change out with Philips ultra efficient 4.5W (65W equivalent) LED bulb.

um, yeah totally grippy gloves but, glass wouldn’t budge but the whole fixture was more than willing to come off the ceiling. Now, I can’t remove the glass dome, and it’s been the biggest pain to try and reattach it to those two screws……any idea on what’s my next best move?

Folks, if you do this, just remember to clean it before putting it back. It's easy to forget, but really important since that may go back for the next decade ahead.

I really wanted this to work but my light fixture is much bigger so.... I took duck tape and put gloves on a wrapped it around the gloves sticky side up and twisted until my wrist was about to fall off🤣🤣🤣. These are a terrible design and shouldn't be made anymore
