Thanks for the info. Instead of paying $250 for a guy to replace one window we ordered 3 replacement glass units and fix three windows for $130. total. About an hour per window of labor. The only hard part was dealing with Lowes to order the glass from Milgard.
You are pretty good and I have 22 years in on installs. One small tip, pre spray with glass cleaner and it’ll help the stops go in a little smoother then not. And please always wear gloves.
Earnest Prole that depends on whether it's a single-hung or double-hung. Single hung upper sashes don't come out and would have to be serviced in place. Double-hung upper sashes come out the same as the bottom sash. There should be a metal clip on each side you pop open, drop the dash past and swing it out.
The outside generally will have 4 stops which you can pull off with a 5 in 1 type flat painters tool. Once you get all 4 off go inside with a longer razor bladed knife (Stanley 99E) is too short, I prefer long yellow ones at Home Depot, and insert blade between glass and inside frame, carefully score all the way around, cutting it free from the double stick back tape. This will sometimes require someone outside with gloves 🧤 just to keep it from falling out, and always wear eye protection.
@@danielcamacho3797 The insulated glass is 3/4” thick ? I took one apart to gain glass size. it looks as tho i can just add 1” to daylight to get glass size ?
@@richardposna3223 I pull stops off to get actual thickness of the IG unit. 3/4 or 5/8 is what I run into most times. As far as adding to the daylight it’s a risk, just measure exact size and deduct a 1/16 or 1/8 just so that there is no binding issues. And always measure the thickness, or stops won’t go back on correctly.
