Scotty, I'm a diesel mechanic, heavy duty and truck and transport. I must say I do enjoy watching your videos, where I work i find a couple videos do help sometimes to get another mechanics opinion on some mistakes, and they are very helpful when it comes to gasoline engines, where sometimes im not the greatest expert everyone thinks I am. Thanks Scotty!
"Some evil swine." 😂 I love the channel Scotty! Been watching for years and always come here when something goes wrong on my cars. I even stop by when nothing's wrong. Thanks for all the help over the years!
I love the paintless dent removal, I've used them before and they are not very expensive. I'm sure this guy is getting a lot of business now as well due to you advertising him.
Top subject Scotty, as a panel beater/spraypainter I'm finding this method to be a cost saver but it's a must to have all the tools and not just pretend anything will do the job, otherwise it will cost more to repair in the end.
For people, who say, that dent repair guys looks like he is not happy about something. When you have a business, advertising is super important! I dont think he was unhappy or something like that, because when big youtube channel showing your business and work, you cant ask for better advertising. I have small dealership and Id personally be very happy to be presenting my business on such channel.
The guys from Dent Dogs are great! Dan from Dent Dogs worked on my car before and honestly I can't tell the dents were ever there! and I'm very OCD about my car too. If you're in the Houston area, I would definitely recommend them all day
I like the look on the Dent Dog's his face at the beginning: "Oh shit.... this is going to get annoying really fast. Where are my headphones." 5 min later "DAMN IT! It's not helping!"
its even true for professionals, who know their limitations and call for help when needed. They may be a pro but they may run into cases where what they're dealing with they have not personally seen or dealt with before in that case the pro needs to call a pro LOL.
If a job is beyond your abilities at the moment it’s not suddenly going to be within your abilities sporadically at some point in the future if you just sit back and proclaim defeat... you learn things you currently do not know how to do by learning to do things that you currently do not know how to do and you do this by doing it
It's amazing what they can do these days without drilling and Bondo. I had a front fender fixed this way about 10 years ago and was amazed. Most pros shops use special lights to help check the accuracy/smoothness at an angle.
depending on the level you need the dent taken out to, sometimes a 35 dollar disount tool dolly and hammer set can take out these too. My cars are mostly beater cars and would be a good car for those wanting to practice dent removal to come over and learn the craft on:)
that is superb. didn't even realise such a service existed to be honest. thanks for bringing this to my attention scotty great job. are you still sure you don't want to move to England?
PDR is a real awesome skill to have, i purchased a PDR kit a couple of years ago and have not had the time practice on a hood or fender, i have had work done on my black Chrysler 300 from a pdr guy and wow what a awesome job they can do, it is really amazing what kind of repairs they can achieve with this system.
Good to know Scotty Kilmer sometimes DIY is not always possible and you have to call a pro. Though I think he could have finished faster than 2 hours. You always work a little slower with someone watching.
South Main Auto Repair us locksmiths have a fee like that lol, basically whatever the customer touches is beyond repair and has to be replaced instead of repaired in 99.999% of cases
South Main Auto Repair lol I know that romex thing, look on my channel, the used car dealer used lamp cord to rewire my stereo before I bought it, had spiked several fuses and still couldn't find the right fuse to fix the headlights so they ran the high and low lamps off the parking light circuit which still didn't work because they spiked the fuse but the wire melted..
South Main Auto Repair lol small things matter, I saw scotty hit a key with a hammer once to fix a stuck ign and it made me cringe. I do sometimes tap a key to get it going to turn on so I can remove the ignition, but never with anything heavier than holding a screwdriver by the bit end and tapping (very very lightly, less is more remember) the key with the handle... less is more with locks in all manners of speaking. Thats why I named my business "the lock whisperer"
9 out of 10 times anyways I simply re cut the key to factory specifications and the locks work perfectly fine again. But those locks you have to fight with to turn on should never be turned off again until you remove them if they come out like 99% of modern cars. We used to love the pre 94 gm cars because we could remove the steering wheel with non powered hand tools and pull the lock out and replace it in about 15 min and get anyone going no matter if the lock was fubar, gummed up or lost keys... tell me, does your shop service vats equipped gm cars? You must know what a pita that caused, though it reduced car theft by 75% across the usa at the time of it's introduction.
99% of the time it is either the contact springs are worn, or the wires to the ignition are broken on paskey 1 type. They do not lend well to tampering and no one will ever tell you this, but they are sensitive to resistance changes of ~1 ohm and there is no way whatsoever to make a reliable repair on them by splicing or soldering wires. The entire wire assembly must be replaced and carefully fished down the steering coloum before being plugged into the connector under the kick panel. One of the huge problems the system has is that if the system picks up rhe right key and starts, but either one of the wires get disconnected after 60 seconds of the car running, the vats system goes to "sleep" and will re activate when it next detects a valid resistance, or when the battery goes flat, then she won't start til it reads a valid resistance, and if its intermittent it won't work for 3 minutes. Every subsequent attempt to start will add 3 minutes on top of that wait with no way to bypass.
Great vid Scott! I had a 95 Ford Thunderbird that got blasted during a hail storm in 2003, and I found a great PDR company here in Plano that made the car look like it had never been hit by anything. Best $4000 my insurance company ever spent!
Very smart of you Scotty to make a video of the guy fixing the dent. You paid for the repair many times over with RU-vid advertising revenue from over 3 million views!
and i like about car sim it gives me problems to solve, like math problems, without useing no math by useing good common sence, and not lieing to ourself
mechic sims reminds me of work at jobs also, the job part is mess up doing to job is good, now they screen you they certifie you they lable you and i dont have nothing, as i am working there people have have to sertifications, there compley dumbass and really dont know what there doing, and i am a dumbass and know i am a dumbass figure things, if had a chance to figure out thing i could make it , but have to bow down to managers that dont really know what there doing,
Paintless dent removal is an art & can fetch a handsome money, dent removal guys are awesome magicians they can catch attention of car lovers & they can also get easy TV channel video footage.
The guy did a nice job from what I can tell. We have Dent Doctors here that do the same work, but I have no idea what they charge. I have a few small dents in my 2000 Prelude I want taken care of this spring. Should be interesting.
Except I'm not so sure about that heat gun against the paint. The results may look fine now, but in a few months it may wrinkle, peal, etc. I think I'd rather have the dent. Any time you try and remove a dent, you are going to cause paint damage, whether it cracks, peals, etc. There's no way around it. That is unless you have a primer gray car then its easy, another can of primer and a bit of sanding after you are done getting the dent out.
"How did you learn how hard to hit it?" Well, there's multiple answers. However, when you hit it just right, and you hear that "oh god" type of moaning, then you already know that you hit it just right...
Last time I had it done on a dent that took two hours was around $150. It's practically all labor hour charge and the cost just depends on how long it takes. The big plus is though if the car is young you save the OE paint and clearcoat which is big value retention.
Scotty Kilmer $140 is worth every penny. Sure beats some of the body shop hacks who will charge a lot more only to end up rusting in a couple of years.
Scott lived for free in my unfinished home that was still being constructed, in San Clemente in the late 1980s. He was doing some framing construction work on my home. I hope that he is happy now.
Hey SK,we lso have that here in the Manila, really a high level technical skill job that can only be acquired by people that is calm, clever, and have a lot of patience... Our guy here charges equivalent to US$75-100 per panel....really amazing and more like a dentist or doctor with oversized tools like earpick...more power!!!!
dang you guys talking smack about Scotty. yeah dude is loud and can sound energetic but dude loves what he does and you can tell he enjoys making these videos knowing he is helping others. Dam internet bullies are the worst. Keep it up Scotty because I'm sure every person that is being a complete jerk has used some of your advice or has ran into your videos looking for advice at least once. thanks for helping and putting these up for free.
That was badass. i will learn this. LOL I have plenty of messed up cars to practice on. i am off to ebay and where ever else i need to go to buy cheap tools to push and pull and bang with. this will be a very handy thing to know how to do. Thanks again.
This is a very good alternative to traditional body work when dents are not too severe. Many body shops now have these guys on their payroll to reduce the labor time on larger dents and to take care of smaller ones. It is a win win for the customer as well it is cheaper than traditional body work and the factory finish is not being disturbed so you don't have to worry about color match or future corrosion. Unfortunately a lot of body shops will try to talk people out of this type of repair in fear of it hurting their bottom line.
That swine must have been my father. He seems to love fucking people over with false promises. Like the time I never went to Disneyland or when he said he'd take me out to play some catch.
+Kyle Ritchie obviously you don't live in houston and have never paid for a new fender and then having it painted and the paint doesn't match the rest of the car then. It costs tons more, on this car, 700 bucks
+Scotty Kilmer You just dont know what kind of cars we get repaired here in our country and paint matches 95% of the time. Repair is pretty cheap here.
+Huzaifa Haroon sure, but I'm in Texas, and body work here it pretty expensive due in part to government regulations kicking out all the little guys doing it in small garages
+Scotty Kilmer yes, I've heard that the government regulations are very strict in the U.S.A. Here, mostly accidental write off cars are imported, repaired. Fiber replicas dashboard and steering installed to cover blown airbags. Sold as all original. Check out my thread Accidnetal Jdms exposed on Pakwheels to get an idea of how expert people we have here to repair the cars :D and How we paint cars in open air
Hi Scotty, about that dent, I didn't think it was that bad and after a few drinks, I thought I had better skedaddle on out of there. I did leave a note under the wiper.
na, this guy did a much better job than Ryan ever did. Heck, this year Ryan was the only quarterback in the NFL rated lower than that bum Osweiler for the Texans.
Scotty Kilmer wow, Osweiler can't even escape getting roasted on an auto mechanic's channel. Are you a Texans fan, or did you stop rooting for a team after the Oilers left for Tennessee?
Sadly, I can not root for a team that has an owner who knows absolutely nothing about football and continues to support possibly the worse GM in the history of the NFL. Why anyone would keep a GM that has made so many blunders, yet fire all the other coaches over time is beyond me. And let's see, he fires Kubiak and Phillip as coaches, and a year later, gee, they win a super bowl in Denver coaching the Broncos (AND, look at their GM then, John Elway who really does know the NFL). So really, I have no hope for them at all with the present owner.
