Brian Wagner - rose grower and owner of Wagner's Rose Nursery in South Australia - shows you what to do when the rootstock grows back from your rose plant, how to recognise it and how to remove it safely. Rootstock is the under-stock that the variety of rose is grafted on to, if allowed to grow it can easily "take over" your rose variety so it's always good to keep an eye out for "suckers" of rootstock and remove them.

well thanks for the education! I have 4 horrid looking massive rose bushes I wanted pulled out and thought this video may help… I never knew about root stock, but am now sure that’s what’s going on with these… but still don’t know how to pull them out! Any suggestions??

Hi, there is a rose in my garden which the rootstock is taking over almost the whole rosebush. It started 3 years ago and now 85% of the bush is rootstock. Its spring time now. Is it worth to apply this method to revive the bush? Will it kill the whole bush if too much canes are cut off? What happens if just remove the rootstocks which are above the ground?

Don't like the color, the bloom have no scent, the bush is eyesore of straight pointy spears. No i dont want the bush the non-gardener wants it because once in a while it blooms.... I think it is nearly impossible to get people to get into reality
